Welcome to my 7th annual Secret Santa List. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2011 List"

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Further helpful hints:

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

My Santa was on the ball this year. My gifts arrived early and nicely wrapped.I tried to be good and not open up the gifts but then I got an email from Santa last night saying I could. I had a very merry Saturday night checking out this haul from Santa.

On Friday I got a small package with no return address other than BGG Secret Santa. I hadn't heard anything from my Secret Santa so I was happily surprised to get the package.

I opened it up and found a small wrapped package labeled "BGG Secret Santa 1 of ?".

The package, after being opened.

I normally leave my Secret Santa presents wrapped until Christmas but my daughter was with me at the time and she was really excited to open it. I'm glad I did since it was an expansion to one of her favorite games, Zombie Dice 2: Double Feature. We opened it up and played right away! Thank you Santa!

I'm very intrigued by the "1 of ?". I'll watch the post office to see what else comes.

Update 2012-12-08
Today I received "BGG Secret Santa 2 of ?" This one feels about the right shape to be a VPG game (of which there are many on my wishlist). My daughter really wanted to open this one too, but I was able to stash it away to be opened on Christmas morning. I'm really excited to see what it is!

Update 2012-12-18
This weekend I received "BGG Secret Santa 3 of ?". This one feels like a deck of cards, perhaps one of the The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game expansions? I'm saving this one for Christmas morning. I'm very excited to see what it is and also to find out how many presents the "?" represents. Thanks Santa!

Update 2012-12-26
On the 21st, I received another package from my BGG Secret Santa, just in time for Christmas! It was labeled 4 of 4 (so I finally knew how many total games I would be receiving) and mentioned that this was his first time participating. He/She did the "Secret" part of "Secret Santa" really well. I have no idea who my Santa is. I even did a BGG search based on zip code but haven't been able to make an identification. I hope BGG Santa sees these comments so that he/she will know how appreciative I am of the gifts.

On Christmas morning I opened the three gifts that I hadn't touched yet and was very excited to receive:
Zombie Dice 2: Double Feature (opened earlier)
Disaster on Everest
The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Dead Marshes
2 de Mayo

Thank you Santa! All of these games were very high on my wishlist and I'm sure we'll have a ton of fun with all of them! So far the only game I've played since Christmas is Candy Land (which my daughter received for Christmas) but I'm sure with your excellent gifts, I'll be doing a bit more advanced gaming soon.

Thanks again Santa! This was awesome!

My Top Secret Santa has delivered!

I received numerous taunts starting not even 25 minutes after targets were given out.

I was away for work during the week when I receive a taunting from my TSS that said

"Santa knows something that you don't!
(Although Santa also bets that you can guess...)"

While I didn't know for sure my package had arrived, I had a pretty good idea. This helped the week fly by and on Friday I picked up my package.

Inside I found: King of Tokyo surrounded by tons of packing peanuts. This is a game I've always really enjoyed. Thanks!

TSS wasn't finished however, underneath was something else...

Space Alert Can't wait to try this one. I've seen it played and of course heard it played, but never had the chance until now. Can't wait and thanks again!

Thanks TSS!

Arrived home from overseas to find this waiting for me. My wife is quite adamant about me not opening it before Christmas, so I've posted a pic to keep you all guessing along with me. The wrapping paper even came open a bit on a corner and the game is peeking through, tempting me to cheat, but I'm holding out. If there are any Geeks out there who can actually tell for certain what game this is from the little bit of naked game revealed, please don't tell me, I'm looking forward to being surprised on Christmas morning!

________________
[edit]

I was very excited to open my gift on Christmas morning and find Galaxy Trucker! We played it as a family that day and have played it with friends since then and we love it!

Thanks again!

p.s. The little package on top was an expansion piece from WizKids' Batman game; I'm guessing it was something the elves at the game store threw in to put me off the scent.

Actually, I got 3 packages from my Santa, and after I opened the third one, here's what I finally got.

A great game, a great addon for a great game and a nice filler. Wow! What a nice and generous present, don't you think?

Thank you, Santa, a lot. It was really nice waiting for your presents and talking to you. I hope you got great presents as well. And hope you get great presents and great Santa next year.

Received two great gifts off my wishlist from my Secret Santa.

One that I'll be playing:

And one that I'll be playing with my logic-loving other half:

Both were lovingly wrapped by Shire Games with a message that allowed me to open them early. Well between that and my 5 and 7 year old boys pestering me to rip off the wrapping, I had no choice.

Along with Finca, they added Timeline: Historical Events as Well!

Woot! Thanks, Santa! The organization inside is fantastic! Separate, labeled section for each expansion, and the inside of the lid is labeled to show you exactly where each expansion's cards and pieces go. I'm still trying to figure out how many plays it would take to get through all of the expansions and variations. We'll be playing this over and over!

My secret Santa gifts were delivered on Friday! WOOT! Sorry I didn't post this then. Or Saturday. Or even Sunday. I got real busy over the weekend, my bad. But! i'm at work now so i have plenty of time to tell a little story.

The story of my first BGG Secret Santa.

I got

and

It made me happy.

Those games are fun.

The end.

I should probably go into a bit more detail, because that story was kinda lack luster. Those of you who just wanted to see what games i got and don't care about an actual story are dismissed.

Anyone still sticking around I'm going to warn you now: I'm bored and at work. I will not be proof reading this so it may be a little ramble-y laugh

This whole experience has been one of anxiety and of joy. Mostly the anxiety end of that spectrum. Every day since this list was made I have been reading it. Seeing all the great gifts Santa's have been sending and reading about how Santa's have been taunting their targets. I started to get worried.

I'm not getting any taunts from my Santa... Has my Santa forgotten about me?

I further investigate the matter by reading the comments section of this list. I learn that sometimes Santa is silent. Sometimes Santa doesn't give any communication. Sometimes Santa just sends his gifts without warning. This newly gleaned info doesn't put my mind at ease at all. Actually, as i was learning about these EVIL Silent Santa's I am pretty certain i felt a ulcer develop in the lining of my stomach.

I hope my Santa will say something... ANYTHING... I just want to know I haven't been forgotten...

I check BGG every day and every night. Until finally, one night, my BGG mail icon is bathed in a glorious red light. My heart starts to race as I click on it. Pure joy and excitement as I see my message from Santa waiting to be read. It tells me that Santa will be coming soon and I should make the appropriate accommodations for him. After writing a witty reply I go down stairs where I proceed to hyperactively tell my wife about the mail i just got from Santa.

I really thought that mail from Santa would calm me down and make me not care about this whole Secret Santa thing. I guess I don't know myself as well as I thought I did. The anticipation was probably increased three fold by this interaction. I knew that my Secret Santa was getting ready to send stuff and I was crazy excited about it.

I bugged my wife every. single. day. regarding my package from Santa. I would later receive another email saying that my package was actually on it's way which only made me more obnoxious. Every night I got home I would check the mail box then obsessively check the window and look out the front door every time a car would pass by or a strong breeze that sounded like it could maybe be a car.

On the day the package actually arrived I was already having one of the best days ever. It was Friday, I was going to get to leave early to get a check I had been waiting on for a long time, and it was pay day too. As I was driving home I thought to myself "The perfect cap on this day of awesomeness would be my secret Santa gift waiting for me when i get home." I called my wife to check. She said she had not seen anything and genuinely sounded sad. Oh well, I'll just have another evening of torture I guess.

But, what did I see as I pulled into my drive way? A box leaning up against my house just outside the door! My wife probably didn't hear the mailman drop it off because she was busy with our kids!!

I snatched up the box and rushed inside to open it.

My wife and son seemed to be just as excited as I was. I opened the box and inside was not just one but TWO nicely wrapped gifts. With a nice little note attached. I'm sure everyone can infer what happened after that. Wrapping paper flying, squeals of excitement, and tearful hugs.

ahhhh, closure.

In the end I got two games that I really wanted and am 100% satisfied by my Santa's performance. Would I do this all again next year? Without a doubt. This whole Secret Santa experience has been a great time. Both giving and receiving gifts was a lot of fun.

Thanks again Santa! Hope everyone else, that hasn't received their gifts yet, has as awesome of a Santa as I did.

I'm not at all sorry for this huge wall of text

Well Santa treated me to a special surprise (and he taunts me with something else in my future).

Not only did I receive, what I hope to be, wonderful Uwe Rosenberg game (of which his Le Harve is one of my favorite Euros) but he also sent me the new FFG release of

Merchant of Venus (second edition)

I was utterly shocked and the generosity but then in the bottom of the box was

Memoir '44: Winter/Desert Board Map

surprise

So me and my youngest son really enjoy Memoir '44 so he was real happy to see the new map and couldn't wait to play.

Pregame

It came down to two die rolls. I missed and he hit. Got to love the smug look on the 7 year old's face.

Well I sure hope that Santa's Christmas is a great as he made mine. Thank you so much from not only myself but my family thanks you also.

Have a Merry Christmas!!

Wow In the mail I also received Love Letter. What a great little filler / stocking stuffer.

Thanks again Secret Santa!!

I received a large box today from the USPS. Ironically, I had been contacted by Santa that my gift was on the way, but I was confused. The BGG Santa had already sent my gift, right?

Wrong. My Wargame Secret Santa used the BGG Santa account (no harm, there), but I did confirm that this box was my "regular" Secret Santa.

This item previously held Silent War, but i have moved that post to the Secret Santa page.

NOTE: Many of the comments, below are for the original item in this list - Silent War.

This large box contained (HOLY CRAP) . . .

Just raced home from my office to grab my Secret Santa's box off of my front porch that Fed Ex had alerted me had been ceremoniously dropped there before the neighborhood munchkins got it, and all I can say is, "Wow."

After keeping me MORE than well-informed about the shipping status of my gift-box and throwing me a question or two about my gaming preferences, Secret Santa truly delivered. Not one to stand on tradition, I had the box opened in my car before leaving home again and was thrilled to drive back to work next to a neat passenger's seat pile of:

Lords of Waterdeep

Fresco

Dominion: Prosperity

I'm truly blown away, Santa, thank you! I only wish I had been able to be as generous to my own Secret Santa target. You really nailed my Euro-fever well with this selection!

Wishing you and your friends & family & gaming circle a very, very happy holiday!

My Secret Santa was amaze balls this year in spite of the challenge I presented (my wish list was rather barren). Not only did he/she take the time to send me notes from New York state whistle, but did so with much cheer and creativity!

Also, Santa was very generous and included a gift for my 3-year-old daughter. We'll save that one for her for Xmas morning, but I will be sure to make an effort and update with a photo at that special moment!

So with much pleasure (and permission), I unwrapped my gift to reveal...

I had played this some time ago and enjoyed the experience. Regretfully, I had never gotten a chance to play since as there were constantly other new games coming out. I'll be sure to get this one to the table as soon as I can.

Thank you for making this such an enjoyable experience and I wish you, yours (and all the other BGG Secret Santas) the best for a safe and happy holiday!

EDIT: Due to a little ribbing and popular demand, I was compelled to peek inside my daughter's gift. Will have to whisper what it is, though...

Santa you're freaking awesome!

This has been on my list for ages to get her. My wife and I Ahem, she's gonna love it I'm sure! Thanks again

My Santa told me on Nov. 20 that my present was awaiting me in a store in the city but it wasn't until this Sunday that I could get in.

The "delightfully unwrapped gift" was The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – Return to Mirkwood , The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – Road to Rivendell and The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Massing at Osgiliath . Thanks Santa.

He also said "the other half of my gift would be ready in mid-December"
I will update when Santa reveals his other secret.

UPDATE: My Secret Santa proved his or her awesomeness this weekend! I received a gift that shows Santa really does know who is naughty or nice. Cause I've been really nice this year and he, or she, gave me...

A two month beer gift!!!
This month I got

A beer from California, one from Denmark, one from the Netherlands and one from Poland.
Thank you for a great surprise!!

Santa brought me more exciting Lord of the Rings adventures! I'm really excited to bring these to the table, and now I have an excuse to pick up Khazad-Dum, too. So many dwarves!

Thank you Santa!

I'd been waiting anxiously, wondering if I was going to hear from my Secret Santa. Some years I do, some I don't. I (what seemed like finally) heard last week, when Santa contacted me to tell me my package was on the way!

He also gave me some interesting information about my favorite country:

"Santa Fact of the day - did you know in Slovakia that I visit on 6th December. The night before everyone shines their shoes and in the morning their shoes are full of sweets!!

true!!!

and then everyone opens their presents on Christmas eve - but with your Polish background you probably all ready know that."

Today, my box arrived! I'd just gotten home from teaching and as I pulled into the garage, noticed the FedEx guy a bit down the street. I got really excited when he backed up and pulled into my driveway because I hadn't ordered anything recently, so knew it must be my BGG SS gift! I met the delivery guy in the driveway, signed for the package, and headed inside. It was a long box, so I figured it must be a big game-- I've always gotten deep boxes from board game stores.

There weren't any instructions to wait until Christmas to open, so I ran for the scissors. (Actually, waiting didn't even come to mind because I was so excited!)

When I pulled Samurai out of the box, I said "YES!"

This was probably my number one game. I played it in March at a local con and really liked the simple rules but still strategic gameplay-- and the theme! I mean, it's set in Japan! and has rice paddies.

I didn't think there would be anything else in the box, but shuffled through the peanuts just to be sure and saw two boxes at the end of the shipping box.

Jaipur was the first game I pulled out. I'm eager to try this with my sister because she likes trading games.

aaaand Catan Dice Game! Yay dice! My sister will like this as well (Settlers is her favorite game), plus I can play it solo.

I also got a pair of Thoughthammer dice.

My games under my tree! (sorry for the glare)

Thanks, Secret Santa, for some great gifts! You hit all the right "gaming itches" with a good group game, one that works well for two players, and one I can play solo. You did a great job reading through my wishlist and finding the perfect games!

I had to finish up my grading work before I could post this (the games sat beside me as I worked), but now I'm going to go try out Catan Dice!
