Welcome to my 7th annual Secret Santa List. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2011 List"

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Further helpful hints:

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

What an incredible Christmas. We closed on our house on 07 December, and our new daughter was born nine days later. It's been a busy and hilarious time!

Santa was incredibly generous, sending me three games off of my list! Thanks so much Santa, you're the greatest!

First, A House Divided.

Next:

Battle Line

And also:

Tichu

Thanks again Santa! Merry Christmas everyone and all the best for 2013 from the Howells!

Update 25/12

Besides Atlantis, I opened up both Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar and Morels

The first just an amazingly generous gift on it's own. The latter out of print at this point and expensive to import to Europe (if you can find it for sale that is).

I'm so very thankful for my Secret Santa's generosity. I was takeen completely off guard by this. I'm speechless..!

I've played Atlantis several more times since the last update, and we played a couple of games of Morels this afternoon. Magnificent game. We love it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Secret Santa!

PS: I will upload some pictures later. The internet connection where I'm at is extremely slow.

Update 21/12

I've been in bed since yesterday with influenza. Sucks big time. Hope to be well enough to get through Christmas alive..

Tonight I decided to open up one of my presents from Secret Santa. I needed something to get my mood up a little, and I was feeling well enough to leave the bed for a little while.

I started by re-reading the card that came with the presents:

"Ho ho ho.. Secret Santa just arrived in Aarhus (my home town). Bringing you some "old cultures" and a hard to get surprise. The 3rd, not on your wish list is a nice extra. Hope its a "new surprise" for you and your girlfriend.

Have fun and a great Christmas

Secret Santa"

With this in mind, I wanted to see if I could open up the thing that was not on my wish list - and I got lucky! I did in fact open the game that was not on my list.

Atlantis - a game about getting your stuff with you before city sinks into the ocean. Sounds like the perfect game to play on the day the world might end

I've actually been talking to my girlfriend about how we need some more simple games thats very easy and fast to teach to friends and family, because it's almost always the teaching part of a game, that puts people off and make them lose interest, even before the game begins.

Literally 15 minutes after opening the box we've already been playing this game for the past 5. How easy was that? We both agreed after the first game, that this has more potential for us than Carcassonne, high replayability, deep enough gameplay to have us intrigued, and easy enough to teach and catch the interest of elderly family members.

This game is most diffidently going with us for Christmas.

Perfect!

I cannot wait to open the other two presents.

Thank you Secret Santa. I am overwhelmed by your generosity.

I've heard nothing from my Secret Santa..

..until today!

I've been feeling a little overlooked in the past few days. I grew up with a lot of neglect, so those feelings have a tendency to reach much deeper than what is good for me sometimes.

This very morning, as my girlfriend and I lay in bed waking up, she told me I looked miserable, and that I shouldn't. She gave me a hug and a kiss, but I was still not in a very good mood.

About 15 minutes later the doorbell rings. It's the mailman with a huge package, and I thought to myself "I think all the Christmas presents I've ordered online have arrived already (except for a book, but the package was way too big to only hold a book). What did I forget?"

And then I saw it.. the word Secret Santa was labeled on the box..

..My mood literally went from zero to a hundred in 2 seconds

I grabbed my camera (as I knew I would do this post). Here is what happened:

Package arrives and Kitty approves!

As I didn't know if the contents of the package would be wrapped or not, I had my girlfriend open it up while I waited in the kitchen. I took the opportunity to snap photo of my tired looking face with a huge smile on it (this ones for you Santa ):

While she was trying to pry open the box by stripping off the tape, I was tripping around on the kitchen anxiously yelling "open it already!". She asked for a knife, and almost before she blinked her eyes, I had rushed in and put a knife on the table, and was back in the kitchen.

Finally she confirmed that the content was wrapped. There was even a card:

I looked into the box and saw:

But wait, whats this under the paper filling?

THERE'S MORE?!?! wowshake

I took a moment to enjoy the thought, that there is someone out there who wants me and my girlfriend to have all this. I was very happy. Very happy indeed.

It will be fun to open all this on Christmas.

Thank you Secret Santa for your thoughtfulness and generosity!

I will bring my camera for Christmas and later update this post with some pictures of me unwrapping, so you can at least get a smile from me in return (and hopefully a little better than the one above ).

Merry Christmas!!

Apparently I didn't make it easy on my Santa. I didn't know about the Santa account used to taunt your targets (this was my first year) so I thought the messages from Santa were just an automated bot having fun with the players. So I never responded

Well thanks Santa for putting up with me and sending me a great game that I really wanted!

Santa came through in a big way for me in my first ever BGG Secret Santa!

I've been wanting to try Flash Point: Fire Rescue for a long time and, so far, haven't been disappointed. My son and I have already played it four times since receiving it!

Flash Point: Fire Rescue

The original Dixit was also on my list and Santa kindly delivered. I took this to a work Christmas party and it was a big hit.

Dixit

Jab: Real Time Boxing was a surprise and after being introduced to real-time gaming via Escape: The Curse of the Temple, I'm looking forward to giving this one a go!

JAB: Realtime Boxing

If the games weren't enough, my Santa has also generously offered to comp me a badge for a new, great looking con! Those in and around the state of Michigan should check it out.

http://www.grand-con.com

I'm fairly new to the hobby, but have been overwhelmed by the community's spirit and generosity. Thanks so much to my Secret Santa for helping to spread some holiday cheer in my househould!

So I received the customary notification from Santa that on the balance of things I weighed up on the good side - with the exception of one minor indiscretion between me and the big man.

I was told that 4 parcels weren't route from Santa distribution in the US all the way to the UK and that each game was labelled with an anagram - only once each cryptic clue was solved could I open the gift.

Fast forward to today and a parcel arrived on my doorstep via those nice people at UK customs who had been processing it for a week - they are definitely off the Xmas card list next year.

Inside said parcel were indeed four packages with clues

The anagrams were as follows

'Hat all roll' for this entry - Trollhalla

The others were

'Day economic'
'Brother sulked'
And 'book rustling'

In case you wanted to solve yourself the answers are as follows

Spoiler (click to reveal)

So many thanks to Santa for your generosity and for finding games on my list that will be played by the family over the Xmas break

I has a package!

After some earlier confusion about whether or not my apartment complex had lost my Secret Santa package (turns out, it was a completely different pacjage they lost), a package recently arrived for me!

It is nicely wrapped and Santa is requesting I wait until Christmas to open it. So, now it taunts me from underneath the tree.

Santa was also kind enough to send me:

Magic: The Gathering
2 Booster packs from the latest expansion, to feed my horrible addiction.

Thank you so much!

Well, it seems that things went a little different than I expected... This afternoon, coming home from work, my wife told me that she found a package (obviously containing one game - judging from the size) in the Xmas sock I had under the tree in order that Santa leaves the gift there.
Before I get to open it I saw in my mailbox a message from Santa. Well, I have to tell you all that "My little pony hide & seek" actually is the present I received from Santa as he thought it was in my wishlist... I have not opened the package yet, but he told me so in his message, so I have to believe him. He also told me that I may or may not receive another package, which may or may not contain "candyland" which he also thought it was in my wishlist.

Never mind, this could happen to anyone. Even Santa can make a mistake (or two) sometimes.

Anyway, I want to tell you all that this won't change my opinion or my faith to Santa and that I honestly thank him for the gift.

Here is the photo of myself, my daughter and my little son and... the gift

UPDATE DECEMBER 22, 2012

Yesterday afternoon I received another package which I didn't finally open for the following reasons:

- Santa told me that I may receive another package and that basically he wouldn't mind that I open, but then he told me that it could indeed turn into coal in case I open it before Xmas. So I don't risk it...
- My wife did a preliminary check of the box tearing one edge and she saw that the gift inside wasn't wrapped.
- The box has the (exact) same size as the previous one.
- Probably it is Candyland (you remember that Santa was confused with what I had in my wishlist huh?)
- Since the box of the original Candy Land would be inconsistent with the size of the box, I now know (I hope!) that it is Candy Land Castle
- Another clue is that my wife revealed to me that the game in the new package is for 2-4 players (totally consistent with Candy Land Castle).

I will update with the photos of my 2 new gems after Christmas...

UPDATE DECEMBER 26, 2012

It seems Santa taunted me till the very last minute. Not only he had studied my wishlist, but he also guessed the games I wanted most.
Finally, "My little pony hide & seek" turned out to be

(together with Leap of death)

and Candyland turned out to be:

YES!!!!!!

Secret Santa you ARE the best!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Rewind 10 minutes ago...

Me to my friend: "My BGG secret santa gift always shows up after christmas! starting to look like it will be the same this year!"

Fast forward 10 minutes:
In walks the fedex driver with a package. Which I assume is some promotional material, or a replacement part for a customer (since im at work). I sign for it and look at the box. It says Game Salute!!

Oh! It must be a kickstarter game...I have lots of those that Im waiting for...But then I noticed the "BGG secret santa" note!

I opened the box and found Shadow Rift!
It was a completely out of left field choice from my santa...in fact, i didnt even remember having it on my wishlist! But it looks like a very fun deck building game, and the more I think about it, the more Im glad santa chose it, as it is not an easy game to acquire, being game salute exclusive, and I probably never would have ordered it due to the high shipping costs to Canada..

So thank you secret santa for an unexpected, but seemingly very well thought out choice!!

Thanks Secret Santa for Legendary as well as Lords of Waterdeep. Both on my must have list and both look to be a lot of fun. Thanks for being such a generous Secret Santa and hope your own family has a great holiday.

I received 50 geek gold from a user recently, but would hope that Secret Santa isn't that "unsecret"!

I just received my BGG Secret Santa Gift this evening and I am blown away. Santa was super generous. Before I get into the goods, let me give you some back story.

Santa reached out to me soon after targets were assigned with some fun and witty taunting. He sent me a message in the middle of November saying his elves were sending a gift in the coming couple of weeks, but then...silence, for over a month. Santa had me on tilt. Had he forgotten? Was he agonizing over which gift to choose? Had I really been on the naughty list all along? A few nights ago Santa sent me a message saying that the gift was on its way and gave me the tracking number. I swear I checked that tracking number 4 or 5 times a day. So today was the day. I heard a knock on my door and I knew my gift had arrived. I took the large box and placed it on my kitchen table.

I opened it up to discover not only King of Tokyo (the game at the very top of my wishlist), but also the newly released Power Up! expansion, Martian Dice, and Sentinels of the Multiverse: Rook City expansion (a game I have been playing a ton of lately). On top of all of that, Santa gave me a bunch of baggies for components - I mean a BUNCH! Heres' a picture of everything:

Thank you so much Santa! You really went above and beyond and made my first Secret Santa experience on BGG truly special. Merry Christmas to you and yours up in the Twin Cities (you may be not so secret after seeing the return label on the package)!

Hi guys!

I came home from a 12 hour shift at work today tired and very weary. I recently switched jobs and my colleagues at my last job knew I liked boardgames but didn't really know much about them so as a leaving gift, they gave me an Amazon voucher. Of course, I spent it all on games! I got King of Tokyo , Dominion: Intrigue and Puerto Rico .

I knew they were getting delivered today so came home expecting to see some boxes, which I did.

When I opened the first box though, there sat Chaos in the Old World !!!

I've wanted this game since I first played it a year ago and I'm so grateful to my secret santa for the gift!

Thanks santa!

Mailman came in today with lots of packages. Ok we went into a online shopping spree and avoid the confusion of the all the stores but one of them was my secret santa. Open it up and saw that it is a nice King of Tokyo that I can play with the kids. On top of this one nice Power Grid Extension the Robots.

Thank you Santa.

Found a box(along with some other boxes) from Coolstuffinc and I know I haven't ordered from them in a while so it must be my secret santa gift.

I opened it and a very large square-ish box lied inside wrapped.

I felt it and it seemed like two games.

I will wait for my secret santa to say if it's good if I open it.

Sorry for the lame pics but it's from my cell phone and they were taken on my computer chair which needs replacing.

I really do wish it was Monkey Auto Races....but I will see soon enough!

Edit:

I opened it up and wow i'm another proud Merchant of Venus owner. This box is huge! My most wanted game next to Cosmic Encounter(I'll have to order it next time I make a big game order) Thank you so much SS!

So while at work, my partner nabbed my secret santa gift. It was opened, then re-wrapped, and hidden under the tree.

Even if I wanted to swipe it, I've got no idea which one it is!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Santa came!

Santa told me a little while back that I had gifts coming, and then I got a geek mail yesterday (Dec 18) from my friend:

who I know from our local San Antonio Board Gamers group. Sean let me know that Santa had selected him as the delivery elf, and he was intending to surprise me at our Monday gaming night. Little did he know that I was skipping out due to a Christmas party.

Sean went out of his way to get the packages to me today, so huge thanks first of all to him!

I have the gifts in my possession now! No word from Santa on whether or not I can open them, but I'll wait at least until Friday when we are leaving town (unless I hear otherwise--sorry Todd!). I'm pretty sure I know what the smaller one is, because it's exactly the same size as a gift I got for someone else, currently sitting unwrapped on my couch right now! cool

For now, here's a picture of my daughter and I putting the gifts under the tree!

Update 1:
December 20: Santa says to open, and I must stay off the naughty list! I tore into those presents early this morning before the crack of dawn.

Santa is AWESOME!

First, I scored a copy of the game I had predicted The Resistance: Avalon.

I am DEFINITELY taking this with me to visit family for Christmas. It will be easy to transport and great times for everyone!

Second, Santa surprised me with Fresco: Expansion Modules 4, 5 and 6.

I was trying to guess this one before opening, but it was the standard TTR size box so that made it difficult. I am VERY excited about this expansion! It's the perfect Secret Santa gift because I probably wouldn't get it for myself. Fresco is one of my favorite lighter Euro games (although with the huge number of cool new bits that comes with this expansion, I'm not sure if it still qualifies as a Euro!), but it is a pretty simple game without any of the expansions. Unfortunately, I typically only play the base game as a way to introduce people to the mechanisms of hidden worker placement. Now, the game will definitely be on the table even with more experienced gamers! I can't wait to take it to game night!

Thanks so much again to Santa and to Elf Sean. This was my first year on BGG, and obviously my first year of Secret Santa. As a 35-year old, it's been a long time since I got excited about gifts (because 9 out of 10 times it's something I specifically told someone to get me), but last night I had "visions of sugar plums". I didn't sleep well at all thinking about the gifts that were under the tree!

Christmas means a lot more to me now than it did when I was a kid. Understanding the miracle of Jesus' coming to earth, recognizing the importance of family that I get to see so infrequently, seeing my own child get enthralled by all of the lights and food and presents. So even more than the specific gifts, thank you to all the Secret Santas, and especially mine, for bringing back some of that childhood magic that I didn't even know was lost.

Bring on Secret Santa 2013!

Update 2:
December 20: Santa strikes again! Along with telling me I could open the gifts, Santa mentioned that he thought my daughter (and the son we are adopting in January) were too young to play these games, and he would have to do something about it. I laughed and told him it was not a big deal, he had already done more than enough. Well...

His elf Sean invited me to lunch since we work very close together. I must be a real gullible type because I expected nothing. Sure enough, Santa had sent along three HABA games for the kiddos! He had planned it all along! Drachenstark, Animal Upon Animal: Small and Yet Great!, and Number Dinosaur will all be played tonight since I've got watch over my daughter while the wife has to work!

THANK YOU SANTA!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Update 3:
December 21: Santa has gone crazy! Elf Sean couldn't fool me again (probably ninja), so he just sent a Geekmail this morning telling me that, surprise, there is one more gift! surprise I met Elf Sean at his alternate place of work (even Elves have to get second jobs in this economy) and picked up the very large and heavy box.

I managed to resist opening it until I got home; I couldn't guess what it was, and I never expected it to be a game like Zombicide! wow Santa clearly has gone off his medication. I pray some poor elves can find the pill bottles and sneak a few into his milk and cookies!

I guess I was a good boy this year! Santa sent a lovely card... is Santa a native-French speaker, perhaps? Also, here's some additional pictures of me looking like a goofball as I was completely surprised as well as the total haul (and one of my cats photobombing).

Sorry this is so long! Generous Santa deserves a generous response!

The setting: My wife had just left for her run, my son (4 years old) was helping me feed my other son (7 months old) peaches. It was not a tidy event. Anyway, all of the sudden, what did we hear? A doorbell, a sign that someone was near. We rushed to the door only to hear a truck drive away. Could it be? Could it be? Yes! Nothing at the door but a package! We waited until my wife got back to open it.

Mage Knight Board Game sat in the box, and I couldn't be happier. It has been rising in my wishlist for some time now, and I couldn't help but squee. Thank you Secret Santa! You rock!

Thank you so much Secret Santa!! Your generosity is so freaking awesome!!

First, there is Courtier. I actually got to play the prototype of this with the designer at GenCon. Philip duBarry rocks!

Mercante

Then there is Mercante. Getting both of these games is fantastic because I hope to also design a game in the world of Tempest, and these games will help me understand the world better. Secret Santa rocks!

Biblios

But that's not all! Santa also got me Biblios. Amazing!

Thank you so much Santa!!

Every year at Christmas time the wife and I do a huge amount of shopping on Amazon to take advantage of the free shipping that comes with my Prime membership. Since we both use my account, we are hesitant to open Amazon packages unless we are positive we know what they are lest we ruin a surprise. Consequently, when we received two boxes from Amazon on Monday we had to have our daughter open them because we had no idea what was in them. One of them had some books for grandma that I forgot I ordered. The other was this game that has been on top of my wishlist since I became active on BGG over a year ago. This is a 2012 edition which includes Animeeples! Awesome! We will be breaking this out on Christmas day for some family farming fun.

Thank you to my not so Secret Santa:
