Got a parcel this morning and wondered "Hmm wonder if it's a game?" As I always do when the parcel guy arrives. Sure enought it was from milsims. Well it could be something I ordered ages ago that still hasn't arrived. (Having not received a shipping notice I knew this wasn't likely). However I had to be sure and opened it right up.

Inside? This!

THANKS Secret Santa!!!

A fun first SS for me. I had fun taunting my target and finding something for them, and now this.

I stumbled into work late today to find a box from Milsims waiting for me. Inside was Polis and Illuminati: Y2K! Between the taunts and these games (and the suggestion that there might be something else coming!!) this has been an amazing BGG Secret Santa.

I'm hoping my target enjoys their copy of Perthopoly as much devil

Now, off to open it!

Santalog. Santadate dec19.11alpha

Oho! Another small box, this time from Santa's southern workshop, opened in a flurry of packing peanuts, and what did we find?

A themed christmas card, (containing Troyes: Bonus Cards) and copies of We Didn't Playtest This At All, We Didn't Playtest This Either and We Didn't Playtest This: Legacies! That's an amazing spectrum of games for christmas right there (and one of my lunch group actually asked about the game only a week ago!)

I feel terrible! I should have put a nice card in with the copy of Perthopoly I sent to my target. But, thank you Secret Santa!

Sanzacta has made it to New Zealand!

As I posted in The main BGG SS Geeklist one of Santa's agents turned up today!

Inside the package from my Aus/NZ Santa was:

Stone Age!

Now I had an inkling that my gift could be Stone Age after a slightly cryptic message from Santa to say that a 'somewhat....primitive gift' was on the way!

This was my first BGG SS experience, and I am SOO happy! Thank you so much Santa! If you are ever in Wellington, let me buy you a beer! (Or maybe Melbourne from next year, as we may well be moving there because of my wife's job) meepleninja

Let me tell you a story. A few weeks ago, MilSims announced that they had Doctor Who: The Card Game coming in on twitter. I mentioned that in a house full of Doctor Who fans it was pretty much a fait accompli that we would have to get that, the nice MilSims person then said he had put a copy under the counter for me. Very tricky fellow

Fast forward a few weeks and we were heading off to ConVic and MilSims is on the way so we stopped off there to pickup Doctor Who: The Card Game and of course they had announced a one day sale so there might have been a couple of things too. Anyway, we got to the counter and I said there's a copy of Doctor Who: The Card Game put aside for me and he pulls it out and a copy of Eclipse as well and put it in the bag. I said "I didn't order Eclipse", he said, "Yes, you did". I said "No I didn't", he said "Yes, really it is for you. We can keep track of multiple orders and not bother posting things that don't need to be posted". Score!

Then we arrive at ConVic and Julian brings over CO₂. Score again! Aussie Santa is double plus good! kisskiss

P.S. Daughter the Elder knows well that I don't open Christmas presents early, so she has asked if she can wrap them

P.P.S. Not only this but slightly before this I received a Christmas Card from Santa posted from [redacted] and then yesterday we picked up an envelope posted from the Netherlands with a Dutch postcard inside. Santa gets around, or has spies, or clones, or an army of minions, or just elves I suppose!

So to continue the story, I have received two cards from the Netherlands, one from Canberra, one from elsewhere in Australia, one from Norway, one from Indiana, one from New York and one from Texas and a questionnaire and the hint of yet another present to come. There were also geekmails that showed a high degree of stalking.

During this process I did put forward that there was a good chance that

was actually my Secret Santa as I could think of people in most of the places who have could have been co-conspirators Elves in her employ.

My suggestion, of course, was denied.

When the latest batch of cards from the US arrived, I posited my suggestion again saying that in my opinion there was a better than even chance that it was her.

We had an early Christmas function with Melissa's family on the weekend and there was the third present from Secret Satan and Melissa finally outed herself officially.

The last (latest?) present was

Taj Mahal (well Tadsch Mahal) in the proper numbered box which completes our Alea big box collection cool

An excellent job by Melissa who had me going for a long time with messages, cards and presents appearing from all over the place! If I knew a handwriting expert I would have called on them.

Well played dear kisskiss

I drove down to the Post Office earlier this week to find a big parcel for me from Bookdepository. Hauling it back to the car I excitedly ripped it out of the box and held my prize up high. Sweet!

Fast forward to today and I go to check my PO box. There's another parcel waiting for me! I run inside, swatting old ladies from my path, to get another big parcel. I take this one back to the car, ignoring my beloved's raised eyebrow, and tear the packaging off this one to find;

Mansions of Madness!!!

You've made me a very happy little puppy, Santa. Can't wait to try these out with the family at Chrissie time.

Dear Santa,

This morning I found a parcel containing not one, but two games on my doorstep. Yes, I know there was that minor mix-up with me putting Smash Up on my wishlist after playing it at BGGCon land then buying it there on the last day, but I was true to my word - I took it to my friends' place, showed them how to play and they loved it, so in the spirit of the season I gave them the game. And of course, Android: Netrunner is mine all mine!

In summary: you rock!

Well, it's official. I am the luckiest man in Australia and my OZ/NZ Secret Santa is a legend.

I arrived home from work today to find a large brown box containing hundreds of foam peanuts. I couldn't believe my good fortune. I'd been fervently wishing for a handful of styrofoam peanuts, and to my enormous surprise I received hundreds! Wow!!!!!

Oh, also in the box was a nicely wrapped copy of Claustrophobia with pages of extra materials, loads of plastic storage bags, a Christmas stocking, a miniature stuffed Santa, a bag of Chupa Chups, a Christmas cracker and hundreds of foil Christmas sprinkles, which my wife chose to disperse around the floor (and I'll no doubt have to pick-up - yippee!).

I'm simply blown away. A wonderful game that has been at the top of my wishlist for quite a while, some goodies AND all the foam peanuts I could ever want. Life simply doesn't get any better than this.

Thank you Secret Santa. I am eternally grateful for your generosity. Hopefully we'll meet one day and I'll buy you a beer, or several dozen.

Well this was my first ever Secret Santa, just over a year since discovering BGG. I was not sure, even a bit uncomfortable. But my Aussie/NZ Secret Santa made it a great deal of fun! A little teasing, a few hints, an email here and there. Then I received a card with a challenge. Yikes!! I am shy. This is not easy. But hopefully we got through that. Enough said.

Then Santa's parcel arrived. Waiting just didn't even occur to me! Santa hadn't given me any instructions about opening and I'm sure my Santa is kindof impetuous her/himself so I figured it would be just fine.

Two packages inside!

And a very silly card - noisy also, with cats meowing 'We Wish you a Merry Christmas'. A cat inside a card is the perfect cat for us.
(BGGers have a thing about cats don't they? This one looks a lot like an avatar I've seen somewhere. Cats in boxes, cats opening boxes, cats playing games ...)

Santa's first gift is Trans Europa + the Vexation expansion. Two games in one. Lovely! This was an excellent surprise as it was on my wishlist but I hadn't really looked carefully at it yet. We are a train mad family (with a whole room devoted to electric trains!), geography and travel is much enjoyed, and this game can be played by 6 years +. The boys especially will love playing this and we have enough grandchildren now for them to play a 5 player game by themselves in a few years!! Vexation also looks great.

I then opened the next parcel to find ... Takenoko. This is PERFECT!! Our family loves Japan and Japanese culture. Some have lived in Japan and most of us want to go back there. This is a beautiful game and will work wonderfully for the adults and growing older kids in the family. We're all pretty much new to this board gaming so a game like this is wonderful to have. From all I hear and read Takenoko is light and fun and a joy to play - and who doesn't like pandas. Thank you Santa!

I haven't opened either game box fully as I think this will be a special thing for the kids to do. Am certain that there will be a great deal of interest and that these games will be much enjoyed by our family.

Thank you Santa Paws for bringing lots of fun and anticipation to Christmas, which I must admit has become a little bit jaded over the decades! Excited children and BGG Secret Santa have given it new life. Have a wonderful Christmas yourself, and a relaxing holiday. Hopefully you'll be able to have a coffee or two at Coffee Alchemy and rummage around a few 2nd hand stores. (Don't go to Thirroul though, it's been raided!)

Santa this year was bad-ass!
I was a little worried as the parcel arrived only this week. I was getting twitchy - nervous glances at the letterbox. What a gift though! Thanks so much for your generosity!
In the parcel I found 3 wrapped presents and a lovely note-
First up was Skull - haven't found it available here yet - so was buzzed about that - next up was Ugg-Tect - been after this since the first edition, I'll be playing this xmas day for sure.
Finally a version of Pickomino- neat! I love Knizia games.
Thanks again Santa.

TL;DR : Super generous Santa who was my target from 2011. Received String Railway, Pizarro & Co, Forbidden Island, Warhammer Invasion (with EIGHT expansions), Battle of Westeros and a bag of delicious lollies.

'What goes around, comes around' - that's what my Secret Santa said. Oh dear, well...who could I have annoyed now? I have some what of a phobia about getting on people's bad side and generally avoid confrontations. 365 days is a long time, and there was an extra day on top of that this year. shake

After some queries regarding the reasoning behind various titles on my wishlist and the inconsistencies between my wishlist and my owned/previously owned lists...a little package arrived. A little green tub from Ikea, filled with all manner of cords and ribbons. Cool! Crafting materials (I just got into sewing this year)! At the bottom of the package was an instruction manual for String Railway! Not crafting materials, a home brew copy of a game I've wanted for ages. So awesome! I immediately set out to make a little carry bag for the game. I had some theme-appropriate fabric from Japan so I made a little Chinese takeaway box for it. Santa said I'd missed a clue. I fished the shipping envelope out and saw Dimboola. Such a unique name. Why, my 2011 SS target came from there! What goes around comes around!

Santa advised that another parcel would be arriving. One game would be unwrapped so as to tide me over until Christmas day when I would be allowed to open my other present/s. Very thoughtful Santa. Not a problem. It's somewhat of a long family tradition to wait until Christmas Day. When my sister and I were kids, she had a bad habit of begging to open one early. One year, she opened all of her presents before Christmas and then cried because she had nothing to open on Christmas (so my parents bought her MORE things yuk).

So anyway, the package arrives. It's absolutely massive. And super heavy. I open the box, a child in a candy store and find not one, not two, not three, but FOUR boxes and a bag of yummy lollies.

The wait is killing me! I've avoided shaking the boxes and weighing them in my hands. All I have to go on is box sizes. Santa has been beyond generous this year. The juicy cherry on a year of many blessings. Thank you Damien!

(Pizarro didn't make it into the photo because it's sitting in the boot of my car ready to be played)

EDIT: It was a long wait to open these last three presents. My dad's birthday is on Christmas day (there's a lot of driving back and forth between families). It wasn't until around midday before I got a spare moment to open pressies. Colour me super, duper grateful! I'll definitely have to do an Oprah next year and pay it all forward. I tore open the parcels to find:

- Battle of Westeros which I have wanted for ages.
- Warhammer Invasion with (from what I can count) EIGHT expansions to get me started. This will scratch the card game itch and has a theme I like (sorry LoTR/Cthulhu).
- Forbidden Island awesome tin, components and rave reviews.

Feeling incredibly fortunate and over the moon. Thanks again Damien. I'm sure your family is having a most blessed Christmas and will have an exceptional new year.

Still can't quite believe what I got from my Secret AUS/NZ Santa. Not only a copy of Alien Frontiers, but also the expansion pack Alien Frontiers: Factions which brings in the purple 5th player. My wife thanks you for that, Secret Santa

If, like I did this year, you wonder whether or not you should take part in the various BGG secret santas events, I can only say that it's been great fun stalking my targets, trying to find something cool to send out and very much on par with the fun of opening my presents and discovering the awesome things my Santas got for me.

Thank you Santa!!!

Yesterday I opened the door a few seconds too early and saw my good friend Steve arriving for a game sesh with one of the games under his arm wrapped. His aim had been to leave it at the door, so that when I answered to let the next person in I would find the mysterious package, but I screwed up the timing! Ah well,

Awesome gift Ste.., I mean Santa!

(Thanks loads! Was a bit freaked out by the weight pf the rule book, then discovered it contained the same rules in about 10 languages!)

Looking forward to getting it to the table.

Arrived this morning (31st of December).
I was worried for a while that my SS had forgotten me, no communication and nothing by Christmas, but all's good, I worried needlessly!

Thanks Secret Santa, a gift on my list for my children. I'm sure they'll love it when we get time to play it - which should be later this week.

Hey all,

So I have been bust over Christmas and holidays etc with family and friends and all, but I wanted to get on here and announce that had a parcel arrive and guess who it was from?

Santa!!

Thank you Santa, I look forward to wrangling the family into having a go asap...

upon opening the box:

wow looks kool thanks santa

lol what on earth are these things :S ...must be a NZ thing haha!... (later) mmmm these are good!! (all gone now )

and then buried amongst the foam bean thingys out comes this... omg so awesome... thank you so much santa, this one is really hard to find and I haven't been able to locate it at any of my local stores!!

(Not sure if I can assume the person on the packing slip is my secret Santa as it appears to have come straight from a store?)

Best secret Santa ever, and definitely first of many more to come!

Thank you Erin for organising and look forward to next year.

Well, Santa promised that there would be PANDAmonium and he was right.

Can't wait to try this - thank you so much, Santa. I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. xxx

And Santa returns!

The friendly postie handed me a box this morning (which had apparently been opened by customs....!!!) containing more stuffs!!

Inside were:

Pickomino
Pickomino (German version - so excellent name - Heckmeck am Bratwurmeck!)

Würfel Bohnanza
Bohnanza Dice (also German version but Santa helpfully printed out the rules in English)

AND

Triumvirate
Triumvirate - and it looks to be a signed edition!

Thank you SOOO much Santa - sorry it didn't arrive sooner, but NZ Customs are obviously game geeks too!

I have been testing out my rusty German on the German rules - I'm not doing too bad so far...!

I just got lost in thought. It was unfamiliar territory.

Thank you very much to my (not so Secret anymore) Santa for Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small and Urbion!

I had no idea what my gift might be since many of the titles on my wishlist had already arrived in Australia (and in some cases, sold-out!) while I was trying hard to be patient. I think my Santa was more concerned about the delay than I was though, and it turns out that the order had been held up by the second part of my gift, the almost mythical Urbion.

Just when I was beginning to think I might well be celebrating Secret Santa in July, my gifts finally arrived late in April! The timing was almost perfect to consider the games a birthday present rather than a belated Christmas present, and I'm looking forward to getting both of them to the table.

Thanks again Santa!
