This geeklist outlines which games in the top 150 are in/out of print and their expected prices.
The reason? Because, although it seems dumb now, i remember when i first came to this site I had a really hard time figuring out which of all these great looking games id actually be able to find, how much they were worth and if they were soon to become a rarity. That and im pretty bored at work. And i want to try out the new geeklist interface.

So, for each game:

Availability: Readily Available, being reprinted etc..
Where: Local game store, online etc..
How Much: Whats a reasonable price to pay? For games that are readily available the price listed is the RRP (Recommended Retail Price), most of the time you should be able to find it significantly cheaper than that.
I hate to do it but for the masses this will be in American dollars...

If anyone could help me out with the prices for games im not familiar with that would be great. See all the places i have question marks...

Since this list seems to have been received positively I will try and keep it updated to the best of my ability.

Disclaimer: List may not be particulary accurate for non English language markets, many people have added comments for non English language editions however.

$39.90 right now for the first edition at Thoughthammer.
Included in that price? You can still have Chili in the Replublic of China...and the game is still a SMASHING good time.

Out of print now, right? This, to me, is like Ford saying they're not making the Mustang anymore. What gives?

Does anyone know if they're modifying it, or taking a break between printings?

Where did you get the idea this was out of print? RGG website has a whole section devoted to this game. It will stay in print longer than The Settlers of Catan.

This seems to be out of print again - I have been unable to find it anywhere in the UK for a long time now.

I had a bad experience on eBay in the last few weeks with a seller who claimed to have 2 copies, but when I had paid for one, he admitted he hadn't got any - 2 weeks later he still hadn't given me or the other buyer a dispatch date. Wasted a lot of time but I got a refund the end of last week. soblue

Anyone know if this is due to be reprinted/restocked in the UK before Xmas?

Hard to believe it's out of stock. My FLGS has approximately four and a half hojillion copies floating around on the shelves. I'm not entirely certain what prompted them to order in so many copies, but it's mildly depressing to see so much space being given to a game when you are hoping to see newer titles flow in.

Overstock possibly due to initial print run being too small, creating sold-out buzz that initially propelled the game, but didn't last long enough to sell second-run copies. Which still clog up store shelves. May be harder to find in future as stores may be gunshy about ordering too many copies (again).

German online shops (like delayedreactions.de or milan-spiele.de) sell rio grande titles.
So you should be able to get it there, even when no european publisher takes it.

I've been on this site for 8 years now, and I'm far from sick of games, but I think I am, to some degree, sick of learning too many new games. I'm also tired of playing 4+ hr multiplayer games, but I'll still happily play really long games 2 player.

Tried 6 stores for this game for the last 2 weeks and they kept telling me it was sold out and the distributors were all out of stock.

Happily, I finally broke down and ordered it on-line. Now all that's left is the interminable wait for delivery.

This has been beaten to death, but I definitely prefer the Mayfair tiles. They are easier for me to see. I do agree that the board is very busy and the Catastrophe tiles blend in far too easily.

You won't be able to get it in Germany, though. HiG (the publisher) lists it "vergriffen" (out of stock) and there's no mention of a reprint.

I've been trying to get my hands on a new box of the german version of Tigris and Euphrates for over a year now, to no avail...

Well, at least I got Caylus and Puerto Rico for Christmas, to ease my pain. Must be off playing now...

Bye, Lars

Well technically GMT only ever printed it once so its been "Out of Print" for some time. What I mean is that GMT are Out of Stock and thus cant ship anymore copies.

"Out of Print" is really misnomer for most boardgames--except Hasbro games. Generally games are printed in a reasonably large quantity that they they figure can be sold in a year or two.

If the game sells out faster, the company'll do a reprint. If not, the game quietly goes "out of print". But technically, it has been out print from Day One--no more copies were planned to be printed at that point.

"Out of Print" means really the manufacturer is out of stock in their warehouse, but there may still be copies at individual stores. (Sometimes for a long time.)

I gather that it's better to go for the second edition rather than the first if you want an easier time with the rulebook.

The Mayfair edition is going to be a significantly different game, so much so that they might call it something other than Age of Steam.

John Bohrer has indicated that the original version of Age of Steam will be re-released in 2008 in another print run of 3000.

I recently just got my hands on an almost new copy of Age of Steam 1st Ed. (played only once) for SGD85. And I'm trying to get my hands on all the 4 official expansions (Paris/Italy, Korea etc). Got any ideas on when they are in print again?

In Germany, the version which was published by Ravensburger/Alea is out of print and scores high prices on ebay.
In Autumn, Quined Games from The Netherlands will re-publish a new, updated version for Europe. Lokal distributors and translators will be: Benelux: White Goblin & Quined Games, France: Ystari, Spain: Excalibur, Italy: Nexus Editrice and Germany: Pro Ludo.

I would strongly recommend to play (or at least download) the expansion rules. The expansion adds a lot to the game, and helps you balance some of the biggest issues in the game.

I know it adds another 50 bucks to the game cost, but if you enjoy this game, it is a must.

Looks like it´s out of print for us in Europe at the moment. It´s really hard to find a store that has it available in Germany, and the it costs more than the list price. soblue

Does anyone here know where I still can get it in Germany?

We did that with PoG - year 3 of the tourney - (Campaign Game rounds in Precon...to determine 3 of the 4 semi slots, and Scenario rounds one day during the regular con to determine the last spot aka: Scenario Boy). We had had the usual level of bitching and moaning about what we should play at the tourney - the campaign game or the scenario.

So, I said, cool - I'll GM - let's see what draws the most: 38 showed for the campaign game, I think 11 for the Scenario Round. That settled that. Besides, only real wargamers play the campaign game. Marvin B became Scenario Boy. Da Crusher Reese won it all. He also won Hannibal that year. Was 12-0 between the two tourneys.

Anyways, PoG has returned to its killer format: Six 8 hour rounds (yep, PoG is a 100% Grade A Beef Wargame) - 3 days - to determine the PoG Top Dog.

The WBC PoG-a-Thon Tourney starts in 17 days. Come run with the big dogs:

Cost depends a lot on the board you buy. At least in North America, there are at least a couple descent board makers (for example: http://www.hilinski.net/woodgames/inventory/index.html ).

The nice boards are typically expensive (relative to most board games) and large and heavy (meaning that shipping around the world is VERY costly).

Crokinole boards can be had new from around $70, though many geeks like the handmade boards of the Hilinskis, which go for around $150.

My FLGS was told 'out-of-print' from the distributor.

You were reading my mind! I saw this hadn't been updated in a while and a lot is out of stock now, presumably because of Christmas, so I created my own DB of the Top 150 availability. According to my best estimates, availability looks like this:

* Widely available - 73 games
* Limited availability - 36 games (games currently OOS at some retailers but likely to return)
* OOP - 32 games
* Available through the mfr only - 4 games
* Five remaining games are either currently in reprint, broadly OOS, going away quickly or up for pre order

I also noted what type of game each (at least according to me) and the Eurocentricity of BGG became apparent:
* 81 are Euros
* 30 AmeriTrash
* 23 Wargames
* Rest other - cards, abstract, dexterity, etc.
