Well, not ON D-Day... but a WWII themed game night to commemorate the landing.

Though it is fair to say the Americans took the brunt of the casualties this evening...

A small showing tonight with around 15 at the most, and around 10 for most of the evening. Nonetheless, we managed to get in several WWII themed games.

After playing several games of Memoir, Scott and I decided to take on the BIG map found in the Breakthrough expansion. This map is twice as deep as a standard map and just as wide. It was BIG.

We played the Japs versus the British in the Pacific theater.

Steve H - British - 7 medals - WIN
Scott - Japanese - 6 medals

The entire game came down to a single dice roll. Scott was on the attack and moving his Japanese infantry via a "Behind Enemy Lines" card. He moved, attacked my unit, reduced them to 1.... and they I got to return fire. The British ability is called "Stiff Upper Lip". If a British unit is reduced to 1 soldier, they immediately counter-attack with a single die. I did so and took out Scott's last soldier in his infantry unit. If I had not done that, he would have moved onto a medal and gotten the 7. Instead, I got the 7th for killing a unit, as we were both at 6.

A fantastic ending. I loved this version. Scott's ability was the banzai charge where a full strength unit gets a bonus die and his units can ignore a retreat flag automatically. So those crazy japs just keep on coming!

This looked soooo good. I really wanted to try it, but I also wanted to do the Overlord scenario. I ended up not getting to play it.

Scenerio: "Picking up the Pieces"

British - WIN
Nick
Ethan

Germans
Decatur
Lansing Rob

Apparently the British completed their objective with a single soldier left after the Nazis kept sacrificing themselves to inflict heavy casualties. Jolly good show boys!

This quasi-WWII game is a favorite of Mike McR's and he brought it along. It looked pretty good! Like a non-specific Axis and Allies with generic colors as teams instead of nations.

Rufus - 11 - WIN
Lansing Rob - 8
Rick - 6
Mike McR - 2

As the evening progressed, we tended not to focus on war games... as a few latecomers showed up and the kids wanted something to do. So Godzilla Dice came out.

Kevin - MekaDragon - WIN
Steve H - Kraken (very close finish with Kevin, but lost out)
Patrick - Alienoid
Dylan - Cyber Bunny
Morgan - The King
Scott - GigaZaur (died first)
