For my first GeekList I would like to get fellow gamers thoughts on unofficial/fan made tiles and/or expansions for Carcassonne. I love this game and am always looking for ways to mix it up. I have played with a number of these available here on BGG and other internet sources. I personally enjoy them. I recently have made one of my own and am looking to have a place where gamers that like to play these or want to look at others to be able to create their own can come. If you know of any others please feel free to add on to this list.
A great place to find out more about many of these expansions is at http://www.naturelich.com/games/archives/2005/08/inofficial_...
Please check back as is updated whenever something new comes out

Dragon Riders & Slayers: The dragon now can be slain, riden (for points), and ice trolls now live under the bridge taxing road owners heavily.
Plays best with Carcassonne: Princess and Dragon

Presidium: when a player completes a cloister they get this tile (similar to T&B trade goods), while in possession of this tile none of their followers can be captured by the tower (similar to King/Robber Baron in goes from player to player)
Plays best with Carcassonne: The Tower

Fruit Trader - This is the one that got me started on the whole thing. A very enjoyable expansion that mixes things up quite a bit, but not too much.
Plays best with Carcassonne: Traders & Builders

Families: I have enjoyed this expansion quite a lot. The addition of cloister tokens help give that element new life although the feuding families always seems to hurt me, more then help me (although this is opposite for my wife)

The Lake: There is a set of 48 tiles of river and lake tiles available from this German Site. I have made and use about 24 lake tiles and it adds a nice look to the game.

There are a number of unofficial expansions and sheets of tiles for you to look at/use at on the official Carcassonne Site (it is in German). They include a fisher hut set; a train track starting set (instead of the river); and other random tiles. Some of the graphics are cleaner than others. For those of us that do not know German "babel fish" is helpful to decipher the page.

Carcassonne - Bischöfe und Kathedralen This fun little expansion (which I personally call "Bishops and Dioceses") adds a little more fun to the cloisters. It is available in the following thread. The tile pictured is not actually used. (The picture is of the stickers that can be made to transform extra meeples into bishops.)

Here is a page (in German) that has a number of fun tiles on it. I have used a few of these and just made up my own rules for the tile type.

Prison - This is another expansion from the group over at Portland Gamers. It is one that you can capture your opponent's thieves. Looks pretty fun. Explained in linked thread below.

Storehouses and Paths: This is an unofficial expansion of Carcassonne. This expansion introduces some ‘not yet up to snuff’ roads and some anti-farm storage areas.

A number of unofficial expansions are also found on this Dutch Site. Sorry no english translations. They look pretty fun and figuring out the rules with the help of an online translator is always, well interesting.

Chasseurs de Grenouilles: (Frog Buster) This river expansion makes building around the river a little more important. It is similar to Fruit Trader in mechanics of the chits. It looks like it would be a fun little varient. (Rules available in French, English, and Spanish)
Plays best with River II and removal of original spring.

Die Eisenbahn: (Train) An expansion that is similar to the river, except you start with a set of train tracks not a river. It looks interesting, personnally I am not a train fan so I have not made this one. Train lovers this one is for you.

The Well & The Donkey: I believe this may be the best expansion that I have ever made. It is a unofficial 10 tile set. It is based on a folktale from Carcassonne (the tale is included in the rules). This expansion gives farmers a little more power in certain areas and the devil can take your meeples away forever!

Fischerhütte: (Fishing hut) This expansion takes all your river tiles and mixes them into normal circulation (similar to roads). The rives now have "trade goods" in them though (similar to T&B). The one set back is that this small expansion (5 tiles) calls for 3 sets of The River (or River 2 would work I think) to use it. It looks like it would be a nice little change every once in a while. (reviewed at naturelich.com [link on top])
download on official page (in German)- look for "Fischerhütte" http://www.carcassonne.de/varianten_karten.htm

My guess would be to scan the backs of the originals and print them out, then create and print new fronts, and then find some chipboard of similar quality and glue the printed pieces to the chipboard.
I am mainly wondering...
* how good the final product is
* how well the back and front match the official tiles
* what type of chipboard to use
Any help would be appreciated.

Next you need to get the tile artwork out of the computer. If you know your way around Photoshop, you may want to add a linen texture to the artwork before printing to make it match the official tiles better. Ok, now to print you want to get some Avery labels (or other brand). Some people like to get the full-sheet label paper, but if you're strapped for cash, anything can work. (I ended up using the standard 1-inch labels; there is a seam, but you can't feel it and it's barely noticeable.) After printing, cut the tile artwork out and stick to your tiles. Scissors can work, but I went with a hobby knife and metal ruler to ensure nice straight edges.
You may want to apply some sort of clear-coat, sealant, or glue to prevent the labels from peeling off. The label glue holds pretty good so far, but the corners and edges are starting to show some signs of use.
In the bag, it is very difficult to tell the difference between an official Carc tile and a tile with a label stuck to it. The official tiles are a little smoother, so if you see anybody with their hand in the bag for a very long time, tell him off!
