I went to Chitag http://www.chitag.com/ this weekend, driving up from St Louis with Chris (rogue461). Went to see what was there, and to play some open gaming.

Brief comments on the event before we start - it's aimed at families; the open gaming wasn't as well attended as I would have liked; it's got a lot of potential and I think could become a good regular convention; I'll almost certainly go again next year.

I did spend quite a lot of time at the booths, not least because as I was in the Educators' programme, I had to visit lots of them to fill out my form for the Educator Big Box drawing :)

A new, self-published game (I even had to enter it into BGG to allow me to do this list!) It's Rummy-based, but has a number of quirks, and I quite enjoyed it. The cards are nicely designed, but unfortunately, it's basically 2 decks of cards with 7 additional ones (which could be made from jokers), so probably pushing it on if it's worth the money, as it would be simple to construct your own deck. The designer was very enthusiastic though, and I picked up a rather nice T-shirt (for free) when I bought the game. I also managed to get my copy of the game signed. :)

Looney Labs rabbits were in attendance, and I played a couple of games of Treehouse, which I thought was quite fun.

Use your Treehouse pieces and special die, add a regular D6, and the Martian Coasters uh... coasters... and you have Martian Coasters. Another interesting game - got quite a bit of strategy to it, and the Demo Rabbit was cute too ;)

Got together with a bunch of people to play vanilla Bohnanza, one of my favourite games. I won, by a single coin. But then, the others playing were playing their first game.

Now they knew the core rules, I introduced them to LadyBohn. I like it, but still prefer the basic game.

Played Pete's Lucky Unders at one of the booths. Enjoyed it, but once again, could probably fairly easily be made from regular decks of cards.

Managed to get in on a game of the Prototype of the new Alea/Rio Grande game. Game play was very interesting, and the modular board was clever. The task selection process was very interesting, and I failed completely to manage my resources! I'd love to play this again, and look forward to its publication.

Played a little game of this, with people I don't think are part of the Geek (yet!). This entry also gives me a chance to comment that I met Zev, who has seen my brother more recently than I have. Hopefully this means I will get some Christmas Pudding when I visit the designer at Christmas. I wondered at some point in the weekend if it would be appropriate to get the designer to sign my copy of the game, given that he's my brother. The suggestion from someone (I forget who) was that I get him to sign every card. :)

This is a fun little game, which with interesting mechanics manages to fairly well represent the advantages of drafting in a cycling race.
