Are YOU an Iron Gamer?

Iron Gamers are above the hype. Iron Gamers know when to choose games they like and when to pass them by. Iron Gamers won't let themselves be bent by their desires. Iron Gamers are honest with themselves and others about Being Iron Gamers. And Iron Gamers are not snide about it either.

Here are the rules and FAQ, which will be kept up to date as questions and comments are raised here:

Important rules update Jan. 6th: Weird Expansions. See the last FAQ question on expansions.

Second Important rules update Jan. 7th: Scoring, Thrifts, and Gifts. Summary: you can buy a 2nd game in a month for a -3 point penalty, and a 2nd expansion in a month for a -2 point penalty, but a 3rd game or 3rd expansion you buy yourself knocks you out of the game. You now win if your score is 0 or positive at the end of the year. Thrift store purchases DO count. Change: Gifts DO count, with special penalty rules in the FAQ.

Third Important rules update Jan. 8th: Compensation copies/reviewer copies. If you are an official reviewer, official playtester, official demo person, and/or game designer, the review copies and final production compensation copies of games that you receive don't count.

Fourth rules update Jan. 9th: What counts as a play and RPGs. For solitaire game information, see the FAQ at the rules link above. RPGs do not count (despite there being a fuzzy overlap between RPGs and particular board games; I just want to focus on BGG-classified board games).

There is scoring involved, but that is more for yourself than to compete with others.

Qualifications to sign up:

- You will be honest.
- You have not yet bought more than the Iron Gamer restriction this month. If you have bought 2 games and/or 2 expansions, you start off with a penalty, and you will have to make it up somehow by not purchasing games in a month (see rules for details).
- You sign up before January 13th, 2007.

If you have what it takes to be an Iron Gamer and qualify, sign up here by adding a game to this list along with a comment! You may want to use the game id of your hot game this month, but you can use any you like. Do not add an item unless you are really going to be an Iron Gamer, please, but you may comment on our insanity all you like.

A tip: if you are blogging this and are able to, use the "Hot 10 Games" in your profile and the BGG web widget to track that on your blog! Remove Hot 10 Game entries as you buy them and replace them with more! You do NOT have to buy a Hot 10 game on your list at the end of the month, you are completely free to choose.

And you can add links to your blog as well below, whether you are tracking or not.

I will add a new GeekList for Iron Gamer each month so that people can add their chosen game and expansion, and bow out gracefully if they have decided to be sane again and go back to buying games by the heart, as nature intended.

Note: I'm pretty realistic in that I and maybe one or two others are the only ones who sign up. That doesn't matter.
