Haven't played it myself, but the HYPE around this game is annoying to extreme proportions.

Is this the new Magic? Will I be forcefully drawn into it (by circumstances), as with Magic? The answer is yes, probably so, and I'm sad to admit my own weakness.

I recently purchased M'44 + Eastern Front and Terrain Pack. I'm gessing these will never see the light of day once Battlelore takes over my life.

I hope I can stay away from it (Battlelore) for a very long time. (sigh...)

The release of the expansion in March might be enough to bring this to the top. Maybe not permanently but should be interesting to see where Battlelore ends up.

The hype certainly hasn't hit my part of the world yet. But few people seem to have heard of it, let alone own it. Maybe Days of Wonder missed South Yorkshire out of their marketing campaign.

This will keep edging up as more people play it.

It's another "gamer's game." Think of it as a quicker, slicker version of SoE. That doesn't really say it though, so I need to add that there are lots of new elements in there, plus a few similar sorts of twists to what you got in Byzantium and Liberte.

So far, I've rated this an 8, but when I've played it more, I fully expect it to rise higher than that. I suspect this is one of Wallace's best two or three games ever.

I agree that it is a very nice game but I do think that it has a pretty steep learning curve. 4 wargamers sitting together to play it may indeed be able to sit through and decipher the game rules in a reasonable amount of time but 4 normal gameplayers without help from a Wargamer type will soon tire of the game or at least tire of the learning of the game. This is as Admiral Fisher stated a "GAMER'S GAME" and INHO not really meant for casual play.

Pure interaction. Innovative mechanics. Demanding. Clever. I also believe that this is the kind of crossover boardgame that will convince more wargamers than euro-players. You need that agressive / perverse way of thinking: not only trying to maximize your own score, but also ruining your opponents' efforts... Sometimes by "helping" them to control too much cities that they'll be unable to defend devil

I have the feeling that the material is too "euro-ish" and doesn't appeal the potential public that can appreciate such a game. I would love to see a Wallace game in a classy GMT suit...

Board Game Villian

With as few copies as there are available here in the States, I think this one may be another take off when it is widely available. I just got my copy. Already played once and the mechanic was so interesting and original, I loved it. Don't know how much replay this one has, but I think it has a lot going for it (one thing especially, the ability to play with up to 8 players, how many games have that?).

TOO easy to cheat. Since no one is watching your timers what's to stop you from turning one over early?

Also TOO easy to draw a worthless card that has to then be subjected to another timer as it is discared and a new one is picked.

And since the sand timers are not all the same TOO easy to get either two good ones or two slow ones.

I thought that the unusualness of the game would overcome its shortcomings but I was wrong. This one is not destined to stay up in the ratings. First time players will think its pretty neat but this will quickly wear off.

I think this might be the next game I purchase. Carcassonne is wearing thin on me in recent months, and this seems to be the one thing to replace it.
