Bicycle Racing Games

I raced bicycles when I was younger. I enjoyed it greatly. The tactics of the different races fascinated me. I was actually a terrible rider. Whether on the velodrome, a closed course criterium, open road race or time trial, I was not very good, terrible in fact. My only bright spot was mountain climbing. Steep hills I could climb in a barely adequate fashion.
I do miss the race tactics though, so I look for games that let me re-live the racing vicariously through plastic or cardboard figures. I found quite a few games that are about bicycle racing here on BGG. Most are simple roll and move type games. Quite a few are from very small publishers, some from long ago, making actually seeing most of these games impossible. I know A LOT of games published are not even listed here on BGG. Maybe people will enter any they have that are not here, as I, and apparently many others, am very interested in games on bicycle racing! I have also included some bicycle touring games as some do have a race element. Mostly, the games here have bicycles in them!
Anki Toner from Barcelona, Spain and Ludo Nauws from Belgium are responsible for many of the pictures and descriptions of obscure cycling games that are posted here on BGG. A big thanks to both of them!
Edit: Searched BGG for more game and added them Sept. 2007 and again in November 2007. Edit: Added many games May, 2009 Edit: Huge Thanks! to Dennis Frank, Matt Hinske & John Weber, each of whom keeps adding to this ever growing list. Thank you for helping keeping this list alive and useful!! (added Jan.2010)

Each player takes care of one team (one colour) and moves his vehicles according to the dice throw. There are 3 types of terrain - down (dice throw x3), straight (dice throw x2) and hills (dice throw). A few places behind you rides also your service vehicle, which can help in case of a defect (when you throw a six, there is a chance of defect). Each player has also a pack of cards, which he can use in the race to speed up his cyclist for a couple of dice throws. There are also fights for the yellow and striped dresses, which gives player advantages in next race. Weather has also influence on racer movement and is simulated randomly with a short forecast by a PC small program.

This game is so big it needs two boxes. Apparently the manufacturer of this game, Kleo, is now out of business. The game was released with 1998 rider stats and was suppose to have additional years released, but I don't know how far along this went.

By the designer of Ave Caesar! This game pits a race car, a motorcycle and roller skates vs. a bicyclist. Different turn around points should make this a fair race for all. It is a race game and there is a bicyclist, so it made the list.

A new Belgium produced game with 2 boards, a flat circuit and a mountain course, and nice cyclists. The game claims to use plenty of tactics and race strategy with very little luck. I would like to see more information on this newer game.

Just added this game to the BGG database. It was just released last month in Europe (primarily in Denmark and Germany), and I ordered a copy from a Danish distributor that ships to the USA. It is billed as "the best cycling game ever" and it may be the only one designed a professional cyclist. Will provide some more details once I have a chance to play it -- the cyclist pieces are very nice-looking.

The game is about the Paris to Brest to Paris cross country road race. Participants try to ride the 1200km in less than 90 hours. This game tries to recreate the race. The board and plastic riders look really nice, but it appears to be pretty much a luck driven roll and move race game.

I try hard to keep it updated and about every 3-4 months I go through the database to look for any games I might have missed being added.
Feel free to do the same!

But I am sure that it is a bicycle race with teams, a peloton, and points for stage winners.
VEey nice list. That has been a long time since I came to BGG.
My website http://www.sportgoodies.fr/ used to show a list of games and is now linked to Anki's excellent website.
I am concentrating now on the cyclists and cars but you can find some games and figurines on the Sport Goodies shop http://www.sportgoodies.fr/shop/.
Hope to have time to make the website with php in order to integrate a database of the games and figurines...
Next month the new "Bisikle" will be available. I you're interested please contact me. See : http://cyclingmodel.over-blog.com/article-35025502.html and http://cyclingmodel.over-blog.com/article-27401917.html

There's much more English language content there now, including a discussion board.
Anki Toner's site has been reorganized and updated (2/2010). Well worth a look if you haven't been there lately! http://www.cyclingboardgames.net/cyclonew.htm
Believe it or not, there are games there that haven't made this list yet.
