Ok, I know it seems that gamers are always on this website during the working hours of the day (not to mention into the wee hours of the night) but I assume most of us have real jobs/careers!....don't we? I'm interested to see what kind of mix we have out there in.
1) Select a game that describes what you do for work(could also be a shameless plug for your company) , and then
2) also write in the description what your favorite games are..this way we can see if there are similarities or differences between what people do for work and what types of games they favor...maybe we'll discover that doctors hate operation, or that pilots love wings of war...have fun!
I'm an archaeologist...almost! I'll receive my masters degree in June. I'm specialising in Western-Europe, so I can get a job as an urban archaeologist.
Games that I like : Abstracts (Zèrtz & Clans are my favourites), Descent (with expansions), Arkham Horror & Battlelore. I also like Power Grid, Citadels and Clue (I know...). I expect that Tigris & Euphrates will be my all time favourite one day, but I still don't 'get' it entirely...
I print t-shirts. I received my college degree in Linguistics with a minor in business, but it is much more fun working for yourself and creating fun t-shirts for people to wear.
There are 7 games I want to play by March 31st, 2012
A manage corporate Web sites for a utility company (maybe I should have selected Power Grid).
I prefer medium and lighter games and my favorite game theme is espionage... wish there were more good ones. I have yet to play Top Secret Spies, but I'm hoping to get a chance sometime soon.
I write letters for the B.C. Ministry of Transportation, often telling people that there's no way we can build a bridge from Vancouver Island to the mainland.
Favourite games are Struggle of Empires, Duel of Ages, Vinci and Puerto Rico.
I am a game designer on the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed game for PS3 and XBOX360. I've also been working on the upcoming next-gen Indiana Jones game.
Some of my all-time favorite games are Ra, Cathedral, Carcassonne, Advanced Civ, and Lifeboat (shameless plug for my friend's card game!).

Freelance technical writer, interface guru and occasional translator. Over the last few years, I seem to have drifted into a banking and finance speciality, which is rather useful in this part of the world... To counterbalance that, and to polish my soul a bit, I also do work for the ILO in their on-going fight against child labour.
I've not been able to play anything over the last few months, for various reasons, but am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and finally opening some of my Essen purchases! Yum!
I'm the director of Marketing, PR and Sales for GameTable Online - a subscription online gaming site.
In the past I have done PR for Wizards of the Coast, PoxNora and others, was the marketing director for the Stargate Worlds MMO and was the marketing director for Cyberlore Studios - makers of the critically acclaimed MAJESTY: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim.
I'm also one of the owners of Greenfield Games, the largest game store in Western Massachusetts.
I work as a development chemist for a food-ingredient manufacturer.
Favorite game at the moment is Carcassonne, due primarily to it being one of the few games I own. I also played, and enjoyed, rail games like Iron Dragon and Euro Rails years ago.
I'm a software engineer (their fancy word for programmer) at the Johnson Space Center on the new Crew Exploration Vehicle which will replace the Space Shuttle, take us back to the moon, and then hopefully on to Mars.
I'm a senior planner/buyer for a world class HVAC manufacturer. Everytime you feel the nice temperature of a Home Depot or a BB&B store we are responsible for it.
My favorite games include: El Grande, Princess of Florence, Powergrid and Settlers of Catan. My gaming group also likes "all fun" games like 6 nimmt! and Diamant.
I like elephants. I like how they swing through trees.
Funny list. I'm a kids' music artist, by the name "Eric Herman".
Just getting back into board games after many years (used to play Axis & Allies and Samurai Swords a lot), and only discovering and trying out a lot of the Euros. So far my favorites are Tikal and Settlers.
I am a Voice Actor. My favorite games have always been skirmish type miniatures games. My current favorites are Fear and Faith, Chaos in Carpathia/Cairo and other Zombie/Horror type skirmish games.
its easy to tell how old someone is by there occupation. And middle aged is from +30 to 55 and most people on this site fall into that category.
From what I can tell, you are commenting on the people who have posted here. As I'm sure you're aware, things like this thread disproportionately attract the participation of people who are pretty happy with their situation in life.
I scanned the responses before I added one of my own, and I saw a whole lot of high-end jobs . . . that doesn't tell me so much "people here mostly have high-end jobs" (which might or might not be true) as much as it tells me "people with high-end jobs are posting on this thread."
That makes perfect sense to me. I'm a mother, and I can tell you, the mothers who speak up about their children's situation are disproportionately those who think their children are "advanced" (and/or tend to be willing to bend the truth in that general direction). Listen to a parenting discussion sometime, and you'll come away with the conclusion that the children are little Einsteins. There's reality, and then there's the picture that people will volunteer to paint, eh?
