Some of the Best Artwork I Have Seen
-
Building up a list of some of the exceptional artwork in games - As I am a graphic artist and gamer (not PC though, in fact I am so bored of PC games even such beautiful graphics as Medieval Total War II) I purchased METW just to show of the graphics on my new iMac 20" Screen. Anyway enough of that...
There is some great artwork I have seen - color and black and white - in many games. So here is a collection I think of some of the best I have seen...
Maybe BGG should hold an annual BGGAA - Board Game Geek Art Award? (Well I dont think monopoly or many wargames would really qualify - and there is no reason why wargames that are an in depth historical feast should suffer from so much poor artwork)
Please feel free to add some great artwork in games you have or have seen as well...
Enjoy

PS: These are not in any particular order as I keep discovering and appreciating great game artwork!

Great city and character artwork is seen in this captivating game. An excellent addition to any collector/art enthusiast.

This is way up on my design and artwork appreciation for the atmosphere and background it brings to the overall game. Powerfully the artists have captured some of the most valiant aspects of medieval fantasy miniature gaming!
Below is the wallpaper I designed using some of the line art from this book...enjoy! (Best to view full screen)

Some Excellent Artwork is seen in this Expansion and Supplement for Warhammer Miniatures. Though most of the artwork is in black and white it captures the overall mood of these miniatures.
Below is the wallpaper i designed using some of the line art from the game manual...enjoy! (Best to view full screen)

Board, Card and Counters are really nice in this game. Well designed and rich in color and atmosphere. Although the miniatures are non-painted you can try out your Rembrant skills in painting them.

I am very impressed with the overall images and presentation of this game from Fantasy Flight.

There is some great artowrk and design gone into the cards of later editions of this CCG

Again a beauty in the artist department and highly collectable just for the fans of the art. Sometimes that is my weakness. I buy things that look visually stunning. (This list is not about gameplay, but a mere visually appreciation of the talents of the graphic artists and designers) - I think this CCG plays well also ;-)

Mostly the artwork in this CCG is of good quality and nicely designed and presented.

I just discovered these beautiful cards and their associated artwork!
Some of the character cards suffer a little from...hmm... lets say "novicitus"...but overall not bad!

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.
You know, they say there was a man who jumped from the forty-FIFTH floor? But that's another story...

I think this board is one of nicest I've seen.

The character cards are especially nice, but overall the entire game is wonderfully pretty. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the best ten gaming dollars I've ever spent.

Blue Moon is most definitely the most attractive game I've ever seen.

This game drips beauty in the art department as well. I feel myself getting sucked into the Blue Moon universe. A lot of the art and design in top notch in this game!

Gorgeous board and components, but a pretty poor game.

Not that interested in the game itself. But the cover box art is absolutely wonderful.

The board looks like a collage that has been watercolored. The cards are very attractive too.

This seems to create the atmospheric Lovecraftian world well. The expansions and boxes also have great artwork. To me there is something infectious about a well designed CCG. Seems to have a good rank as well.

There is a nice feel to the art in this game and the rules (which i downloaded) look great. Others on BGG seem to give favorable reports to this game. Nice theme also!

Nice design and artwork on these unique cards. Hmmm...I think i will get this just for the aesthetics!

Board Game: Iliad
[Average Rating:6.66 Overall Rank:783]

Have just come across this game - nice artwork and production seems to acompany this ancients card game. The rating is not bad for this game. I like the simple, clean and atmospheric card art in Iliade.

For To Court the King (Um Kragen und Krone), Amigo lets a painter paint all illustrations in oil. The effort was tremendous for such a small game, but it did pay off!

This game caught my attention for a little while and i still think it is a reasonable game. The artwork has continued to improve for this CCG (or MCG - Movable Card Game as some prefer). Despite some stupid aspects to the game design it has a lot of potential. However good consistancy in their artowrk is amiss, some cultures - France and Briton are excellent - others (but not all) are pretty poor. The quality of the actual printing and cards themselves is one of the best around though.
Here is the playmat I designed for my use...

Whilst the actual artwork is not 'fantastic' I have added this as the above mod is a great attempt to improve and customise the game in the art department!
Well done

Now this game may not play well, (that is not the purpose of this list), but the artwork is great. By the famous Michael Menzel who has illustrated a large number of games! See his web here... http://www.atelier-krapplack.de/
I like his anime style - deep colors and shadows...

The cards in this game are a beautiful addition to any collector of 'fine art' games. They are rich in theme and atmosphere that sourrounds the French Court.
