Contests that make you realize you spend too much time here

Every once in a while some clever BGGeek decides to test his peers by seeing how much time they really do spend surfing the Geek. Below are links to 8 different contests from the past year that have given users the chance to realize just how much their brain has retained from the countless hours spent visiting this site. The contests basically come in two flavors. There were a few contests to identify the fonts used for various game titles (and you'll be surprised how familiar some of those fonts are). There were also a few contests to identify box cover art (and you might surprise yourself with how you recognize the box cover art for games you've never played or even seen in person). Even though the
for these contests has already been claimed, they're certainly all still worth checking out. Please add any that I may have missed, and then get back to surfing the Geek so you can hone your skills for future such contests.

Name That Game Treasure Map Contest
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/130673
Answers: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/17148
Creator: Matthan Heiselt (matthan)
The "Treasure Map Contest" was posted back in October of 2006 by Matthan (whose photo on the left symbolizes how I was left in the dark by the difficulty of this contest). When Aldie himself says "this is tough" you know you've got quite a contest on your hands. The 50 prize went to Jorge Montero (hibikir). Try you hand at the contest thread before peeking at the answers GeekList.

This game collection is TOO HOT FOR TV!
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/126230
Creator: Dave Lartigue (Legomancer)
The "Too Hot for TV" contest was created back in September of 2006 by Dave. This contest had scores of geeks squinting to identify heavily pixellated box cover images. For once the glasses-wearing among us found themselves at a distinct advantage apparently, but even if you've got 20/20 vision, this one is worth checking out.

The Coffee Haus Art Game
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/132351
Creator: Crypt Keeper (Gialmere)
The "Coffee Haus Art Game" ran all the way from October of 2006 until January of 2007, stretching across a 17-page thread with 411 posts! Gialmere was one creative cat in this whirlwind of a contest that kept participants guessing for months. There's no more to claim but you still ought to poke your head into the coffee haus and have a look around.

The Font Name That Game Game
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/128324 & http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/129018
Creator: Matthan Heiselt (matthan)
In the prequel to his "Treasure Map Contest," Matthan brought us two different "Font Name That Game Games" in September and October of 2006. There wasn't any to snag, but identifying these fonts could be a good way to warm-up for the main event of the Treasure Map. Another one of Matthan's photos on the left symbolizes the speed with which these were solved.

BGG Collage
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/126331
Creator: Dave Lartigue (Legomancer)
Dave decided to give our eyes a break from squinting when he tested our metal with this "BGG Collage" last September of 2006. This might be a good place to start in terms of the font identification challenges since it keeps the background around the text visible, but you've still got to log some serious hours on BGG before you'll be spotting all unlucky 13 of these letters.

Spot That Game 01: Publishers
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/21106
Answers: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/21129
Creator: Mike Bazynski (bazik123)
Taking up the mantle of dipdragon (whose GeekList contests aren't included here because they have been deleted), Mike brought us a contest to identify publisher logos in April of 2007. This one proved tricky because even the winner only identified 19 of the 20 logos. Even if you're a fan of one particular publisher, you might surprise yourself with how many of these marks ring a bell.

I Spy With My Geek Eye
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/21192
Answers: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/21283
Creator: Jonathan Crummett (KSensei)
The "I Spy with My Geek Eye" contest was the second of three recent contests from April of 2007 that gave users the chance to see whose brain had retained the most visual imagery from surfing the Geek. Aldie kicked in a Benjamin of to sweeten the pot, but even all that incentive likely won't get you to spot all 50 hidden images (even the winner only found 46). So how many can you spy with your geek eye?

BGG Ultimate Geek Test
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/207692
Answers: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/163854
Creator: Gerard Boom (geboom)
The "Ultimate Geek Test" was the third recent contest from April of 2007 that inspired this GeekList. This really was the contest to top all contests. If you could spot all 140 thumbnail images then you truly deserve the "I spend more time on BGG than playing games" microbadge:

Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/4475
Answers: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/4475

I created this contest way too soon, before the recent contest boom. But one lucky winner did receive her free games. Note that the answers are now in the main geek list, so if you don't want spoilers, don't read too far down.

Wooden Bits
Contest: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/125563
Creator: Simon Hilsdorf (Zopper-Alf)
Simon created this panorama image that tested users to identify an assortment of wooden bits from 22 games. This is another contest definitely worth checking it, as it differs from the mold of the font and box cover contests, and will surprise you with how many of those pieces look familiar. Good luck placing them all though; the answers are in the contest thread if you give up.

Shaky Ulnas

I tried my hand at several of these as well. I've had a few contest ideas on my own that I should get working on. This may give me that extra little bit of motivation to do them!

You should definitely post those contests that you've been thinking about when you have a chance. I love to check out these contests and I think I'm not alone in that. I'm never knowledgeable enough to win them, but it is surprisingly fun to identify fonts, box covers, game bits, etc.
