Following is the schedule for 16 19 Card Driven Wargame tournies (although you could pick a bone that a few games on the list are not strickly card driven wargames, but, the CDWer tribe does play them) at the 2007 WBC tournment http://www.boardgamers.org/

I've participated in many of them. You'll always get a great GM and fun/challenging field of players. The 2 player tournies generally run in size from 16-32, while the multiplayer games pull fields between 50-100.

Each winter, WBC offers these tournies at its winter CDW con, WAM. http://www.wamconvention.com/

A legendary WBC tourney, that has kicked off WBC for the last four years as its own "pre-con". 6 back-to-back 7 hour rounds to determine a winner. Only for the bold and beautiful - or those enjoying mind numbing fun competition. Great/fun group of players from all over the globe (including Turkey).

A ceramonial dance by Ms.Hari opens the activities

Sunday 2:00 PM. You won't meet a better GM in Mr.Tucker. Always lots of color - and great door prizes. And, at least one participant always wears a Carthagian helmet to the event.

http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc/omens.htm

A couple of years ago, the GM actually had Carthagian elephants at the opening ceramony. The hotel management got their shorts in a knot, so, the elephants probably won't be back anytime soon.

Version III won't be out yet, but I'll be giving away 2 free (future) copies as prizes this year.
I'll also be holding a version III playtest, if I can. Contact me if you are interested.

BTW - the only good Team X Member is a Former Team X Member.

The 2 player version kicks off on Tuesday at 6 PM. Sometimes it attracts a strange crowd. Some dude showed up claiming he was Napolean.

One of the things that makes WBC the best con in the business is having tourneys like 1776 (the game was published 33 years ago) where a strong field of good sport players show up for the 2 player wargames.

Not exactly a card driven wargame, but, it does use very cool battle cards. And, it is an outstanding strategic level game - similar to the Card Driven Wargames.

Tuesday nite 7 PM mulligan round and Wednesday 9 AM. Event is run by a great GM and the event went to the clock (90 minutes per side) for the first 9 months of the Campaign Game (bid Strategic Cities).

Last year a fellow named Luther dressed in a really funky outfit should up. However, security quickly showed him the door.

Is anything being done with bidding or anything with this game? Is it needed? It's hard to imagine playing a 6 player game with asymmetrical forces tournament style, no matter how long it has been playtested.

No, we're not using bidding.

Last year's win totals by power (first year as a tournament) were as follows...

Ottoman: 3
Hapsburg: 3
England: 2
France: 4
Papacy: 2
Protestant: 3

We were quite happy with that breakdown.

Gorey details on last year's tournament can be found here:
http://www.boardgamers.org/yearbook/hispge.htm

We've started up a BPA-sponsored PBEM tournament too and are not doing bidding there either. The only concession to side preferences is that in these tournaments the strongest qualifiers from the opening rounds get to choose first for sides in the semis and finals.

One thing you'll find about Here I Stand is that it offers many players a chance to hurt a perceived leader. This does help make it self-correcting for play balance to some extent, part of the reason I think it is working well in tournament settings.

People seem to manage to play Diplomacy in tournaments. Is 6 really so different from 7?

The GM Mr.Wixson is top notch. On his own dime he awards tomahawks to the top 2 finishers. Wed 9 AM

Despite the picture below, you don't often see players holding hands.

I'm quite interested in the asymmetrical forces in this one, yeah. Don't want to wait until 2010 or whenever it'll get through P500 though. I know why they do, but I wish they wouldn't P500 reprints and just reprint them and get them back in stock instead.
