The inspiration for this list came last night when I was browsing some game ratings and discovered, much to my surprise and consternation, that I had rated Quip It! much, much higher than the five other users who had rated this particular game. I then went into my profile to check my "Stats", and sure enough I found one other game that I had rated higher than anyone else.

So to what games have you given a higher rating than any other BGGer? Don't worry, there is absolutely no reason to be ashamed for enjoying a game, do let's not judge and condemn each other here! Are you one of the 46 users who gave Monopoly a 10 (only 2 of which are "BGG newuser"s)? That's okay! I'm glad you like it that much. Are you one of the 7 users who rated Candyland a 10? That's nice that it brings back such happy memories!

Let's celebrate the enjoyment of games!

I'm one of two tens on this one. I enjoy the fact that it's possible to attack the engine that another player has built. I like the goofy looking Goth. And I appreciate the theme of mortality and impermanence. I think it's been unjustly judged because it was designed by James Earnest and Mike Selinker instead of someone German. And I'm happy to be at the top of the ratings.

I rate this a 10 while BGG rates it a 5.4 placing it at around 3300 out of 3600 ranked games.

Three words:
Collectible
Dice
Long rules shake

All three can be overcome with the right perspective but most BGGers just thought it was a complicated money grubbing luck fest and moved on.

The rules were a little broken in the first incarnation but have since been fixed but of course no one is going to change their rating.

My rating 7. Average rating 5.1.

Again with the same complaints: Too much luck, no strategy.

Of course there's strategy! That is, if you bother to actually become acquainted with the cards!

Here's some: Don't try to whittle down your opponent's entire car. If you damage a side beyond six points, FOCUS ON THAT SIDE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Discard weapons cards out of your hand that don't target that side and draw new ones. You run better odds by drawing either A) armor cards b) Weapons that actually do target the side you want. Don't bother with tire shots until your opponent swerves a lot. Then, use a high power tire shot to take out you opponent's tires so they can't leave the arena. Use special cards such as Machine Gun Jams or Fireproof Armor only in response to being attacked by those types of cards. The advantage is that when your turn comes up you get to draw more cards to fill your hand and you can attack.

No strategy, pah! Sounds like some people just can't be bothered to spend the time to learn how to play a game well.

I think my comment upon rating this a 9 says it all: "Must have the right group: stodgy and the uninspired need not apply (they will hate it, you and your dog)."

It has become a bit of a litmus test for our group: if you can't handle being goofy from time to time, you probably can't handle our group.

My rating: 10 Average rating: 6.92

I'm one of seven people to give this a ten (and the only one from the US). I think the overall ratings suffer from confusion with the divination (oracle) cards of the same name, as several of the low ratings have comments of that nature.

I have played hundreds of hands of this great trick-taking game, and don't think I will ever tire of trying to finesse the one card from my opponent(s).

I am the lone person who gives this game above a 6.

I give it a 7.5 It's the best football sim that I have ever played.

The problem is that the game was marketed to the wrong people. It may not be Magic with a sports theme, which was the market which appeared to be targeted by Donruss... the gaming community.

But at that time I hadn't heard of Settlers of Catan. I was investing most of my time cheering for my NFL team of choice, and working a bit for 'trade' in cards and such at a local sports card shop.

The game was introduced onto the display shelves in the store with a small amount of hype. I was intrigued from the moment I first ripped a pack...

Funny, the prepubescent set which usually was ripping packs for 'rares' of Magic Cards began buying the starter decks and boosters of this game.

When the series II case arrived with the player updates, I was looking for Brett Favre (MVP that year, among others) and split the box cost with a buddy. We tore through those packs and it was glorious. I found my MVP, and we ended up both completing our sets of Red Zone.

At Sam's Club there were these limited availability dual starter sets of Red Zone with the 'playwheel' included.

I contend that most people who detest this game have never seen the playwheel. This is why I posted the pics of it a few months ago.

It streamlined the results checks and made the game much more enjoyable. I loved the dial with the two sides for running and passing plays. It worked, and my buddy and I each built two play decks.

One was slanted toward running the ball, and the other was slanted toward passing.

The checks and balances for the game were fantastic, though, and when we played it was always a legitimate slugfest. We knew football (which is key to playing this game) and how to call plays and defend--so it was the best football sim which we had ever seen.

I also believe that the dissenters didn't get Series II cards to play with. These cards added plays which filled out the playbooks nicely, added new special cards and several players which were missing from Series I.

Additionally, there were a couple of hybrid players with stellar results checks like Kordell Stewart, who could play QB or WR; and Dave Meggett, who was a RB and a WR with long gains for green results.

I've never played Paydirt or Strat-O-Matic, but those games seemed a bit too math heavy for me. Pizza Box football is a bit too theme-light for me, but is a good game.

But Red Zone could have been king. If Donruss would have made good on their promise to reissue player updates annually, and made slight improvements where needed... this game would be the bridge between hard-core gridiron fans and the hard-core board game geeks.

Currently, my only 10: the ultimate party game, IMO.

The key here is to play with people who think the point of the game is fun for all involved, as opposed to a group that use Mao as a means to ostracize or make fun of people.

The 2nd most important thing is that it makes a huge difference what type of rules you're playing under. With the right ruleset, the game can be a blast for all involved - including those who have never played before:

Probably the biggest flaw in some Mao versions is the rule against talking. It's hard to enjoy yourself when you can't even say anything. I've found this is the thing people who have played Mao and disliked it found to be the most annoying. Remove that rule and play with friends - the game will be (for most) great fun.

Of course, some people just won't like it - but I estimate 90-95% of the people I've introduced it to have had a good time and enjoyed the game.

As far as the stats go, there are 6 other 10s; the current average is 5.87. What struck me as odd was how many 6s there were - I was expecting this game to be very polarized (and have only high and low scores).

Wow, I am a 10 in a game that averages 5.1...and this is one of my top three favorite games of all times!

I have probably played this game more than any others. Yes - there are errors in the cards. Yes - you actually have to make one card up! But with a couple of changes in the rules this has become one of my wife and my favorite games. Here is what we chagned: 1) We changed the Pullman to allow you to subsitute for one link of a RR. So, if you need to link Jacksonville to Atlanta, it could serve as the link as the ACL and SAL both go there. However, once used, it cant be changed. We also allow a player who has a Trans-con to get double the points for that route - and the longest version thereof...but ONLY if no Pullman is used. We also had to make modifications to the cards - for example, Chicago is now worth 0 points. The DRGW is worth 10. The C&O worth only 3. This helps to balance out the game - you can easily make these adjustments by just looking at what is connected where. Finally, we play with two dummies (my wife would say she plays with three) who each have ten cards face down. Each turn we turn over two of their cards - and these are out of play - this helps to simulate what would happen if others were in the game. We play this so much when we travel (which we do a lot) and as a stopper at conventions. An excellent game, some assembly is required, but it is a must play for us.
