This list is intended to discuss possible new games for the gaming website http://www.yucata.de.

If you think YES - I WANT THIS GAME AT YUCATA.DE then give thumbs up to that entry.

Entries with many thumbs up may have better chances to be implemented

If you think you can help yucata.de, just tell me (send me an E-Mail). If you are a .NET-Developer or want to learn the technology you might realize a game of your own. We also have need for someone helping with the images/graphics.

Criteria for games at yucata.de
* No player interaction. Trading and actions are usually bad. Veto cards are usually bad, since after each action of each player, each other player needs to be asked if he wants to say 'veto'.
* Not too many microactions/phases. This is no fun to play as PBW. At least not for most people.
* No memory effect: Remember who has taken what, and so on. This does not really work in PBW. This is why Stratego would not be a good option.
* Two-player games. The vast majority of games played at yucata.de are two-player-games. I will think a long time before adding a game which does not have a good 2-player version.

I prefer themed Eurogames. This does not mean that I will never add new abstract board games but they are not at the top of my list.
2010-04: I just removed most of the abstracts. There are better platforms for abstract games than yucata.de.
2010-05: I sorted again by number of thumbs. That's a manual and painful process. I also deleted games nobody wanted, games which could not be played with two players, games by Knizia.
2010-09: I sorted again and deleted a few games nobody wanted.
2011-10: I removed a heap of games which don't have any real chance to make it to Yucata. I should delete at least 50 more, but many of the proposed games I still don't know...

The list is becoming pretty long and BGG is missing a sort feature. User Grimwold created a small script to help us out.
Sorted by thumbs: http://www.grimwold.org.uk/bgg/yucatalist.php?sort=thumbs
Sorted by name : http://www.grimwold.org.uk/bgg/yucatalist.php?sort=alpha

It's been a while since I played this, but I think it would make a good pbw game. The biggest problem with the game was its fragile scoretrack that ruined the game if you bumped the table. Yucata could fix that!

There is also three other titles: Africa, Asia, and Europe (and now Americas). They are all played the same, but with some transportation differences. They are addictive, quick games (about 30 minutes when played live) and has been enjoyed by everyone, of all ages, I have introduced it to. You can even learn some geography while playing.

Why this?

1. Excellent logistic/optimization game with a time track mechanism
2. Underrated only because of horrible problems with manuals
3. Setup can be tedious - it will be much easier on-line
4. No necessary in-game text
5. No bidding
6. Rich in strategy

----

After some time, I have some more thoughts.

This game is AP King and would be BETTER in turn-based on line play than live. Why?

It involves a time-track mechanism. You have about 10 AP to spend on:

1. Producing right goods in the right order (production chain can be long!)
2. Examine "development/production" trees, which can take TIME
3. You have to calculate everything to not waste goods

I mean seriously - if you play this live, it goes like this: you tell your partner to go watch TV, while you plan your building path. Than you calculate/execute. You partner returns, you leave. He/she has to examine what's on the board, plan her/his own path, calculate, execute...

Now, if you're not experienced - you have to take your time to know the game and it's elements. Don't get me wrong - the game IS GOOD and VERY INTERESTING. However, given it's setup (prepare all the buildings) and gameplay (lots of thinking) - it's perfect for Youcata.

Just played my first game of this Sid Sackson classic and I think it'd fit nicely in with yucata, with the possible exception that games could take a long time. However, individual turns are quick, it plays with a variety of players, and being a turn based platform, people don't have to worry about potential analysis paralysis.

From a development point of view, it shouldn't be difficult to develop for either, since players choose between rolling a dice to take a colored gem, or choosing one of the given equations to swap gems for, followed by the choice to pick a market card and score.

2-3 players with a perfect number of turns for yucata.de IMHO. The few (if any) in-opponent-turn decisions are likely able to be postponed to start of own turn for the benefit of the game flow in the website, with small to no changes in the effects.

A game that some describe as a "brain burner" but mainly because you're keeping track of three boards simultaneously and resolving interactions between them.

Now, what are computers good at...?

Ah yes, keeping track of complex stuff.

Which makes it perfect for Yucata.

It's actually a very good game, by the way!

quote:
"Each turn in Grimoire starts by revealing several cards on the game board; each card has either a victory point (VP) value or is a character with a particular way to earn VPs at the end of the game. Once these cards are revealed, each player secretly chooses which spell to cast in his spellbook by placing a bookmark on the appropriate page. Everyone then reveals which spell they chose, with the spells going off in order from weakest (those with the lowest numbers) to strongest. Some weak spells nerf stronger ones, and the order in which players choose cards from the display can be flipped topsy-turvy depending on who plays which spells."

really nice and fast card-game (2-5 players)!
