What follows is a list of games on my "must buy" list. These are games that appeal to me in some way; either theme, topic or a combination of both. I'm a game collector, so I'll buy just about anything. But these games are special. I'm looking forward to these games with great anticipation and not a little impatience.
I plan on using this list to track my "must buy" games for 2007 and I'll be updating to add new games "I gotta have" as I become aware of them and marking games acquired as I come into possession of them. Comments are welcome, but due to the nature of the list I'm not allowing public additions to the list.

Something of a cheat as I already have this game. But any list of "must buy" games has to included this game as I've been looking forward to this game since I first heard about the concept two (?) years ago.
Got It! (June 2007)
I have to admit that I was a little disappointed. Maybe no game could live up to the hype generated for this game by the concept and designers. It's a solid idea containing some good games with the potential of more to come (yet to be designed). Still, I'm less "wowed" than I was prepared to be. Not a bad game. Just not a great game. Yet.

I love games like San Juan and Glory to Rome where cards are used for multiple purposes. The pre-publication buzz for this game is very good and it sounds like a fantastic game. Sight unseen, this is a definite "must buy" for me.
Update: Got it! (11/20/2007)
This game lives up to its pre-publication hype! Great theme.

A game where the theme is everything and I'll buy in a heartbeat. This one has been a long time coming too, but should be here by the end of summer, I hope.
UPDATE (March 2010): Still waiting... rumored to be published by Z-Man games in 2010. I'll believe it when I see it!

A game that has been in development for a few years and somehow slipped under my radar until just recently. Based on Avalon Hill's classic "War At Sea" system, this is another game where the topic/theme alone make this a "must buy" for me. The fact that the game is based on a proven system is just all the better. I hope to have this game in my hands soon.

Decision Games 2nd edition, 2007. More than a straight reprint; some changes have been made and the new version revises and expands the original edition. I'm looking forward to the "new and improved" version of this classic wargame.

Something a little different from the usual Z-Man games fare. This game has been getting a lot of positive buzz over the last year and my anticipation is reaching a breaking point! Sounds like a great game that will be loads of fun to play. Also sounds like it will be wargame enough to satisfy the Grognard in me but with game play that will also appeal to non-wargamers.

Another game that I have just started hearing about. This is another game where the theme is enough to sell me all by itself. I usually don't like a lot of humor in my games (other than "inside joke" type stuff), but this games sounds like it will fast and easy to play and a lot of fun too.

Call me a heretic if you must but I like Fluxx. It's fast, fun and crazy. Sometimes that's just what I want in a game. Adding a Zombie theme to Fluxx sounds just crazy enough to work. I'll certainly be adding this game to my collection of Fluxx decks.
Update: Got it! (10/09/2007) The addition of "Creepers" and the Zombie theme make Zombie Fluxx the best Fluxx yet!

A solitaire wargame about flying B-29 bombing missions over Japan in 1944 and '45. Based on the classic B-17: Queen of the Skies published by Avalon Hill in 1983, this game incorporates game changes that focus on the B-29 Superfortress. Currently in "Pledge" status at Khyber Pass Games (http://mysite.verizon.net/rjlein/khyberpass/id38.html), as of this writing the game still needs about fifty (50) more pre-orders before it is moved into the publication process. Come on B-17: Queen of the Skies players, you know you want this game! Pre-order now!

I can still remember reading my older brother's Marvel comics back in the early and mid 1960's. I was there for the beginning of the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Spider Man and the Hulk. (Oh, don't I wish we saved those comic books!) It was great time to be a kid. The Heroscape system is a good game and merging it with the Marvel Super heroes is a brilliant idea! This game should be on store shelves "any day" now. Should be a lot of fun. (And I'm sure it's something my Grandson will enjoy too!)
Update: Got it! (8/01/2007) At my FLGS, so I payed full retail.

Addition. Forgot about this game but this sounds like another great game. A card-driven game about the 1960 Presidential election. I was only four years old when this election took place, but I've seen the video clips; heard and read about the election all of my life so not only is there a historical factor, but a nostalgia factor as well. Early buzz is that this is going to be a fun game. I'm looking forward hitting the (1960) campaign trail later this year.

Addition. Sweet! Enjoyed the Switzerland map in the PC version of Ticket To Ride. Glad to see it coming out for the board game as well.

Addition: New edition from Fiery Dragon Productions. An often overlooked conflict that occurred as a consequence of World War I and should probably be considered a part of that conflict.

Another "must have" game. Sigh. Too bad this one will be sold "exclusively" in Scandinavia. That will make it an expensive addition to my collection. Nevertheless, I can't let a little thing like geography stop me.

While I do like Heroscape, it's not like I play it often. Nonetheless, the new Marro Master Set is a "must have."
