Weren't any other games entered? I can think of quite a few games that were released last year that deserve "Board Game of the Year" more then Treehouse.

I think they meant "Board Game that Fits in Your Pocket of the Year"

At least, I hope.

Maybe my tastes have changed over the few years of gaming, but you're telling me there wasn't any other Munchkin Available, let alone cardgame, to win this category? I wrote a review on this game, and of all of them, I found this one to be the most bland. angry

I mean, Mag Blast third edition came out in 2k6, same artist, but different company. You're telling me that got beat by this? surprise

I guess Congrats is in order to Steve Jackson and SJGames.

I found this to be ridiculous. IMO, it should not have been entered in this category. It's an expansion far more than it is an accessory. Dice Towers, Battle Mats, Expo Markers - those are accessories.

Other dice replacement decks have been developed. The only thing that separates this is the application the deck has to a specific game - ergo, expansion.

Didn't Stephenson's Rocket win the sci-fi category a few years ago?

Origin awards are just silly. They were improving, but this list is a huge step backward.

The biggest disappointment was that Battlelore lost out to a game I've never heard of. I think having the Origins attendees vote is a great mechanic, similar to what's done with the Hugo's for science fiction. However, this result is a headscratcher. I'm told Looney Labs was working the crowd to get votes, and you must tip your cap to them for working the system, but for the awards to grow in importance some change should probably be made. My suggestion would be to have the ballot sent out to pre-reg's only, and have it due back before the show starts. The upside to that is the trophies could be engraved in advance. The other alternative would to simplify furhter and have the juries both pick the finalists and the winners.

I think everyone who is working on improving the awards deserves credit for moving things the right direction. Three years ago there were so many categories, it was just nuts. Reducing the categories has been a big positive. Forming the juries for coming up with the nominees is also a great step.

I was very happy to see Vlad win. Warhammer Ancients is a nice system and the sourcebooks are amazing. Unfortunately Games Workshop's distribution in the U.S. is so messed up you just don't see many here. They don't carry them in their own GW Battlebunkers, no promote them on the U.S. website.

I was also happy to see Richard Borg's CC:A win. I really enjoy that game.

Finally, I was happy to see my friend Mike Mulvihill's latest and greatest, the expansion for WizKids' Pirates win.

I hate to be so negative but it's like they just went to the back corner of a dark rickety comic book store to find all of the nominated games. Not saying that these games are bad...just that there is a much larger pool of deserving titles to choose from.
