How did I not play any new games at Origins?

There was plenty of new games I wanted to play, but somehow, I only managed to play games that I had already played before. Sure, they were among my favorite games ever to play, but I missed out on new releases, Spiel nominees, and hard to find plays. My only excuses are that I ended up spending a lot of time doing work for my website, and had some duties associated with my game being published. But still, how did I miss playing ANYTHING new?

This could technically be a new game since it was the first time I played the published version. But since I designed the game, I have played it many, many times before, so it really doesn't count.

I played in a mini-Hold 'Em tournament with three friends from the area before the convention began. But I missed both big Origins Hold 'Em games, and any of the other poker games that people put together! Not only is it not a new game, I didn't get to play with new people!

I try to play in the tournament every year because I used to be quite a good player at it. The past few times have been disappointing though, and I find myself being more frustrated with some of the more broken aspects of the game. I still love it, but not a new game!

I stopped by to chat at the North Star Games booth a few times, and ended up being dragged in (ok, it didn't take any convincing) to demos of the game. To the people I was playing with, this was a new game, but not to me... it's one of my most played games! And yet, I drove 500 miles to play it.

A few plays late at night outside Looney Labs were fun, but it's definitely not a new game to me. It was the first time in a while that I didn't have to be the moderator and actually got to play several games.

Not actually this card game, but a late-night LARP called "Mega Paranoia". Not only have I played Paranoia before, but I've played the "Mega Paranoia" event before, and the scenario was based on "Star Wars", a movie I've seen before. Was nothing original to me?

Aha! A new game! ...That is still a new game. Though I stopped by the booth and was taught the game by the designer, it didn't lend itself to being played there. I bought the game, and I know the rules, but still wasn't a new game played at Origins...

I was asked by some friends to teach them how to play Zendo, and I obliged. But I mastered, and so didn't play, and didn't even make up some new rules to use, I used some old standbys.

This game was new to me, but played at a stop on the trip to Origins, not actually at the convention. And I lost miserably at it too.
