This one is an operational game on Garibaldi campaign over the Alps during the initial and central phases of the Third Italian War of Independence.

With a very peculiar chit drawing activation method and a combat system that stresses fatigue over real casualties, I obey is a fascinating study of this neglected campaign, with a see-saw motion of the counters over the splendid map and the chance for both sides to gain an unexpected victory.

Medium complexity, 2/3 hours playing time, both for competitive and solitaire play.

Well, not so untrue. The most famed battle, Bezzecca, saw 15.000 Italians against 13.000 Austrians. Italians (winners) had 121 dead and lost, 451 wounded, 1.070 POW. Austrians had 25 dead and lost, 82 wounded and 100 prisoners.
Ponte Caffaro saw 1200 Italians against 1200 austrians. Italians (winners) had 10 wounded, Austrians had 10 dead, 8 wounded, 20 prisoners.
Pieve di Ledro saw 1600 Italians against 3500 austrians. Italians (winners) had 14 dead, 42 wounded and 36 lost, while Austrians had 39 among dead and wounded, and dozens of prisoners.
And so on, as far as I know.

oh, I wasn't complaining or claiming it's inaccurate, just offering a piece of info that can be counter-intuitive for wargamers.

Sorry for my tone. I did not mean to be rude (even if I did). On the contrary I appreciated your info, found it counter-intuitive as a wargamer but somehow matching some old readings of mine about Garibaldi's history. So I went to check and found those quite interesting figures that I decided to share. Sorry again.

This small, but very competitive game on the first clash between the French-Piedmontese army and the Austrian one in May 1859 during the first phases of the campaign known as the Second Italian War for Independence, is an almost skirmish battle fought on the country roads and the fields near Voghera, on the road from Piedmont towards Milano.

The "Seven Weeks War" of 1866 is also known as the Third Italian Independence War. The Italians want Venice. The Austrians have it.

Two scenarios - just the conclusive Battle of Lissa or the entire campaign, along with important random events, intrusions by the French and Turks, optional rules for ships and events that could have happened, and more.

The subject matter intrigues me, but given the mediocre ratings most Avalanche games get, their unwillingness to allow Cyberboard or Vassal modules to be made available for their games and the high price tag on this one, I will definitely be waitng for the reviews to come in on this one.

Too true. Everything about this game is right in my wheelhouse, except that it's an Avalanche product. I'm just so weary of them releasing unfinished, untested, error-riddled games that could be great but amount to nothing in the end.

Some include later wars in Risorgimento:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risorgimento#Risorgimento_in_th...

The Museo del Risorgimento in Rome, for example, goes on to 1918. This would add many games to the list...

But I find this more restricted interpretation better.
