Have you playtested a published game? Put a big chunk of your valuable gaming time into perfecting a work in progress? Tired of being confined to the small print of a credits page or maybe put in your time for a publisher and maybe not have your name in that small print at all? Maybe even been handed (ok, emailed) what is essentially half a game and end up finishing it with the help of the other playtesters?

If so here's your chance to let the gaming community know what you've done. Designers might have instant name recognition but someone who sticks to playtesting only very well might not. This list is for those providing the "free labor" of gaming. Post what you've worked on. Lets try to keep it to published games or games that will be in the near future. Wargames, boardgames, card games, doesn't matter, add your game. Get the recognition you deserve.

Tested this one too. The playtesters had a bigger hand in the actual design of this game. This led to my first real design project, the Order of Battle supplement for VaS. And then right into the Age of Dreadnaughts WWI version using the same core system (playtester on AoD).

I was randomly corralled at a little local game convention to playtest this slick, self-published science-fiction miniatures wargame. I really enjoyed it, and I think my friend and I were pretty good "testing the extremes" playtesters, as I regularly found the most expensive unit I could and stuck all my eggs in one basket, and my friend went for quirky edge-case strategies (all snipers in stealthsuits, hiding in trees, with no backup!).

I doubt many people have encountered Flashpoint, but it really is a very well-designed and playtested (heh) minis game, without an expensive buy-in.

Steve wound up creating all of the art for the game and it has just been released in a great-looking second edition!

I was a playtester on this game, but not for long. Neil Sofge asked our mutual friend Lonnie and me to playtest this expansion soon after Hard Vacuum was released.

Lonnie and I were teamed up against Neil and his teammate. Our ships set forth across the void towards each other. Neil and his wingman turned up the thrusters, made a quick pass at us, and then proceeded to underestimate the effects of momentum as they both sailed off the map! I don't even remember if Lonnie or I got a shot off before we had won by default!

WiF "final edition" was the first major game I was involved in playtesting. I organised a group of players and we spent a week playing the whole way through a game with daily e-mail reports and fixes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and then went on to test / develop just a few more games.

OK, Age of Steam was a pleasure to test and develop. This on the other hand was a total nightmare. Princes started out with a conversation between me and Martin on a car journey. I suggested the theme and 11 months later we had to have the game in print.

The early versions nearly worked but there were always little niggly problems somewhere. Eventually almost all of Martin's regular testers were sick of the game and we still didn't have it right. A final desperate push and it just clicked into shape surprise

There are still people among the frog crowd who refuse to play this simply because of the bad experiences testing it.

Struggle is an interesting case in games development. Martin actually had a version of this game before I got involved with him. The problem was that the original version took well over 7 hours to play and there was no way that we felt a game that long could sell to a significant market.

The key to the development here was Martin ruthlessly cutting out most of the game and leaving the essence then carefull adding back of colour to get the final result.

Again with this I can point to parts of the game that I invented so I have great memories of testing this one.

Unfortunately the final version was a combination of some of the ideas I had tested and some I had never seen which added up to a game that while OK is not high on my list of Wallace greats

DBMM was made available for open testing several years ago. As I am a keen ancients wargamer (mainly DBM) I felt that trying the rules out and reporting back to assist development would be a good thing. Unfortunately my standing as a competition player (actually quite a good one) did not cut much of an impression with the author Most of the comments and issues I rasied do not seem to have been fixed and the game has gone in a direction I really don't like.

Still you can't win them all. It is after all the author who has the final say.

I was in rounds one and two of the playtest. My battlegroup got put in the "foreign playtesters" section. Apparently they think Alaska isn't part of the US...

We were all surprised to se what got published, I didn't get the third round playtest drafts.

It was a solid game then, and the release was substantially better than the playtests in playability.

This one was a problem to playtest. WHy? it was too many cards. The first couple expansions were included in the playtest!

Not only that, but we couldn't do it with witnesses, since the results were VERY rude.

But it is a fun system, and while there ould be a clean version, the naughtiness is part of the fun.

Although not yet published, it will be sometime soon...

This one was pretty brutal the first go round. We were playtesting while the game was being designed so there was constant flux (confusion/frustration). The playtesters were disbanded for a while and then the next iteration came and with it was a refined system with many of the issues worked out. After some time of playtesting they took our feedback on all of the character powers/interactions/etc and are finalizing it into what will be released. It will be interesting to see ends up being from when I last played it.

I'm not a miniatures type of guy, but we had alot of fun playing it and I will for sure be getting the base game and a bunch of boosters. It is easy to teach with the hardest part remembering to use your figure's characteristics at the right time at the right place on the board. I spent many sleepless nights replaying what I should have done and anticipating the next time I could play.

Kind of like Steve Martin in "The Jerk":
