Gamer Couples: A Metalist

This metalist is intended to be a reference to a certain genre of geeklist: the couples geeklist. That is, geeklists where gamer couples comment on their experiences of gaming together and their shared or divergent tastes in games. (Geeklists of the "What can I get my nongamer spouse to play?" type do NOT belong here, though I have included some of the "How I/my partner became a gamer" type.)
The lists are chronologically ordered by the time of their creation. If you find/create ones I have overlooked, please add them.

"We've only recently got into gaming, lured as we were by Magic: The Gathering. Although we still play this, our eyes have been opened to much wider opportunities, especially from the German market."

"In general we like light to medium games (not really into brain burners), less big on strongly abstract games, don't like games that require too much aggression or screwing your opponent, and, most importantly, are fun. Some element of luck, which so many serious gamers understandably dislike, is fine with us as it seems to add some spice."

"The dynamic for these games is slightly different than others. They can't be incredibly intense and confrontational. A little brain-burning is okay, but not to the point that we have to think several moves ahead.
And now, on with the bickering! Er, reviews, I mean." --- IngredientX, May 2005

"This list is a few things. It's a list of the two-player games we play. It's a tribute to my lady love. It's a description of our taste. It's an investigation of our different play styles, and which games we tend to win and lose. And it's a request for suggestions."

"In September 2005, I created a Geeklist entitled "My reintroduction to Board Games through BoardGameGeek, or how a newcomer became a geek." ...
That list is the story of how my wife and I were introducted to boardgames as a hobby. ... This list is the story of our experience since September 2005." --- KingEfraim, July 2006

"We have some requirements for our couples games:
1) Simple Rules... 2) Simple Play... 3) Reasonable Playing Time... 4) Something she can win... 5) No brain burning... 6) Theme a plus, but not necessary... 7) Some room for Strategy... 8) Forgiving" --- houjix, October 2006

"I come from a checkers and Euchre background, while he played D&D and a lot of computer games in high school and college. I'm a fan of strategy, which I define as planning ahead one or more paths to success, whereas my husband likes tactical, which he defines as responding to the current situation. We prefer to play games that reward strategy (though not too much), yet are still interesting on a turn by turn level, and we're not adverse to a bit of luck either. If you can wrap all that in a great theme, or nice bits, then it'll be a runaway best seller with us!"

"My wife and I play games almost every night, and we are always coming up with new tournaments and best ofs. Who wins or loses seems to come in cycles: sometimes she wins more often, sometimes I do. ...

"He steals silently away from his fellow Montagues, a couple of strange, dark packages under his arm, while she sneaks away from the Capulets with her own boxes of treasures. They meet, away from prying eyes, for their late-night tryst, and exchange furtive rolls of the dice across the table. But what's that sound? Oh no, it's the Gaming Police! Run for it! Moments later, they fall breathlessly into each other's arms, exhilarated by another narrow escape. Ah, forbidden love! Next time they will be sure to roll those dice a little more quietly."

"For those that are interested this journey (the games featured below) span the full 8 year period. There have of course been many other filler type games that have made an appearance along the way but these seem to be games that marked a milestone in our gaming habits or opened up a new style of game to us as a gaming couple."

"My wife passed away last year and this is a tribute to all of the games that we loved to play together. I weaned her off of Monopoly by introducing to her to some of the lighter Euros, which she loved."

"Eleven months ago, Rachy gave birth to our first child- a healthy and beatiful baby girl. During the nine months of her pregnancy (and I might add that it was exactly nine months, to the day!) we found that our entertainment habits had somewhat changed. Instead of finding ourselves at concerts, movies, parties, or the occasional smokey bar, we mostly stayed home and played boardgames. Not that I was complaining."

"I thought chronicaling the wargames we played might be fun for a couple reasons. First, it will reopen the usual discussions about "do girls play wargames?" and "what kind of games do couples play?" or "what kind of game would my wife/girlfriend like to play?" etc. etc."

"I also thought it would be fun just to take a look at the variety of wargames we played over the past fifteen months, along with a few comments about how Rachy and I perceived them. Rachy tends to like wargames more than card games or Euros, but that certainly doesn't mean that she likes all of them."

"I am new to the boardgaming hobby and got hooked immediatley... My next stop might be gameboard rehab since I have traded or sold all my xbox titles (except guitar hero II) so I could get more games.
The hobby has definitely added great family time together (whether its just me and the wife, or my sister), away from the TV and videogames. We dont mind the power going out anymore...it just means candlelight gaming time. Anyways here is a list of the games we got and how we both feel about them." --- badfish20, July 2007

"I am a regular gamer with my wife. Over the last 2 years since I got into boardgaming I have managed a collection of close to a 100 games. We have a ritual of playing a couple of games every night after we manage to coax our 2 children to bed early."

"She was a Roleplayer. He was a Wargamer. Together, they fight crime.
Well, together they play RPGs about fighting crime. Or bashing orcs. Or loving The Computer. Or fighting for freedom in the galaxy. You get the idea." --redjack11, July 2007

"I have introduced a variety of games to my wife over the past 3 years, to varying degrees of success. I've developed an odd skill in this venture. I am
terrible consistently inconsistent in my ability to predict her response to a new game. I have several failed theories...
1. Inverse relationship between her enjoyment and direct confrontation 2. Dislike of historic/fantasy/war theme 3. Direct relationship between her enjoyment and win percentage
These have all fallen by the wayside, as you will see in the entries below.
Question 1: Can you correctly recommend a new 2 player game she will enjoy? Question 2: Is there some pattern here that I'm not seeing?

1. STRATEGY... 2. THEME A BONUS... 3. QUICK PLAY... 4. QUICK LEARNING CURVE... 5. EVEN WIN SPLIT" --- fruitychick, August 2007

"But while she's a baby gamer she's GOOD. She beats me at games that I win a lot at when I play with regular gamers. I'm hella proud of her for winning and really glad that she plays with me. Honestly she's one of the best gaming buddies I have. But she works me over."
