Discussion Thread is Here!

The original Chain of Generosity is here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/23326/ This list is a continuation.

The Chain has been, and continues to be, an enormous success. Thank you to all the people who've kept it going for over two years!

Boardgamegeek is a wonderful place. The friendly, helpful, generous users here make this one of the best online communities. I want to contribute to that spirit, so I have created the BGG Chain of Generosity.

Here's how the BGG Chain of Generosity (The Chain) works:

Step 1: I will seed the list with a giveaway game. Anyone who wants that game can leave a comment to that effect. After 2 days (on Friday) I will randomly choose (using the random integer generator at random.org) a recipient for the game, and geekmail them to set up shipping to their house.

Step 2: The recipient of the game will then choose a game from their collection (probably from their trade list) and post it as an item here for more people (or maybe the same people) to comment on and enter. After about 2 days (this can vary) they will do a drawing, and a that person will win the game.

Step 3: The new recipient repeats step 2.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

RULES:

1. You must comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the drawing to recieve it in order to be eligible to win.

2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away in this fashion. If you don't like that idea, don't play.

3. In the unlikely event that no offers are made on your game by 48 hours after posting, try a different game in its place.

4. If you wish to start a second (or third, or fourth) chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description. For those later in the chain, identify which chain your game belongs to.

5. Sender pays shipping, unless he indicates in his entry that the recipient will and under what grounds (International shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where recipient pays shipping agree to do so.

Pretty simple rules, eh?

Other Considerations:

The game you post should be one that most of the BGG community might want to have. Ideally, one on your trade list. The dual-purpose of this list is to spread goodwill and give unliked games a good home.

You can win multiple times. Just keep in mind each time you win a game you'll be giving another one away.

It's the Original Chain.

The offering for this time around is Martin Wallace's hit released at Essen 2007. The game is currently ranked number 12 on the BGG ranking. The copy is opened, punched and played one time. The box and the components are pretty close to pristine. I was into this game, but not a single one of other the members of my gaming group liked it and it is likely to never see the table again at my house.

Therefore, sign up below to give this game a chance at a loving new home. As is the default stance in this chain (and in most of them), this offering is open to all comers, regardless of your location in the world. If I have to ship it to Easter Island, well then, so be it. The Chains of Generosity are for all to enjoy!

I will leave the item open until Friday, June 26 and then I'll draw.

Have fun and play safe!

And I swear Random.org was not influenced by any sort of bribe, compliment, or World-Ending-Ancient-One kismet.

Geekmail sent. Thanks to all who participated and good luck winning in the future. I've always enjoyed winning chain, not because I usually get a new (to me) game out of it (though that's always nice), but because I really like posting awesome (imnsho) offerings. Call me silly, but that's the most fun part of it for me. Hope you enjoyed it too. Try the fish.

Share the Love Chain!

Thanks to JonnyRotten (jgilmour) for the last chain item!

Rules:

1. The person posting a Share the Love chain item must offer 2 packages. Each package must contain at least one game, but may contain multiple games or a game and other items.

2. One package is pre-designated the "Chain" Item. The second package is the "Giveaway" item. When the winner is drawn, 2 drawings are made.

The first drawing is the entrant who gets the "Chain" package, and will post the next item in the chain. The second drawing entrant gets the "Giveaway" package. The winner of the Giveaway package does not post a chain item: They simply get their giveaway package for free!

3. All entrants have an equal chance of being selected for either item. An entrant may be asked only to be drawn for the Chain item, but may not ask to be entered only for the "Giveaway" package.

4. No entrant may win both the Chain and Giveaway package, unless they are the only entrant.

5. Entrants must indicate their interest by commenting "I'm in" or similar. Thumbs do NOT count as valid entries.

6. If the Share the Love chain makes it back around to me, I have the option of closing it off for good.

7. Because microbadges are only awarded to users who have given a game away, winners of "Giveaway" packages will not recieve microbadges (though if you already have one, I won't take it away )

--------------

And here are the items!

Item FOUR in the "Share the Lovin'" chain...

The Chain item:

Gobblet

Gobblet is complete and in great shape, although its outer box has some scuffing. Blue-Orange edition.

AND Reiner Knizia's My Word!

Green tin version. Complete, played once.

AND an authentic Disney DVD containing a digital copy of Wall-E, including the activation code. This lets you play the movie on your Mac or PC and transfer to your portable video device. (US/Canada only I think). This came with my DVD set of Wall-E, but I have no need for it, so I'm passing it along.

AND some more MYSTERY GOODIES to fill out the flat rate box!

The Giveaway item:

Your choice of:

1. Five Crowns - Box is a bit beat up, with some tape. Cards are fine, complete.

2. Burger Battle (Burger Battle) - Box and cards in great shape, complete.

3. Shuttles - Box has some scuffing, game is perfect.

4. Loot - Box has some tape and a price sticker, but game is complete.

I'll give this a week or so, then do a drawing. Good luck!

And Random.org says the winner of the Main item is (2) Kevintlee!
The winner of the giveaway item is (3) Daezee!

GMs on the way.

ORIGINAL CHAIN

I think Pandemic is a fantastic game that seems to have captured people's interest.

This is a duplicate copy in excellent condition. I love the game too much to get rid of mine...

I'll cast dice and consult the Elder gods in a week-ish!

RESULTS:

With 24 to choose from, I decided to roll a d6: 1-3 would be the first 12, 4-6 the second 12. I would then roll a d12. If I rolled someone not interested, I'd just reroll.

I rolled a 2 and an 8.

Counting down the list, the Winner is...Subhan!

THE CHEAP CHAIN!

(No rules for the Cheap Chain -- rules are expensive!)

Hope everyone had a great 4th!

Up for giveaway is one sealed set of Mayday's Yucatan wooden resourceeples. 95 little bits of wood, 17 in each of the five resources. Here's the product link; the picture is to the left.

Look at those little sheepies! Way more fun to push these around than to play with boring old cards. Plus you can put them on the board itself -- see forests filled with chopped timber! Mine ore and brick straight from the mountains and hills! Revel in amber waves of grain! And of course, sheer the fluffy white sheepies! Makes a great gateway game even easier to teach and more fun to play.

You can use a screen and a die to keep the resources secret and deal with robber, respectively.

Drawing will take place on Thursday, July 16, around noon -- one week from today. Good luck and happy Catanning!

Wow, this is my most popular chain item yet! I'll have to remember that the next time these guys show up on Tanga. And without further ado, the random generator picks.... 11! Peter Loop, you win! Congratulations, and geek mail sent.

Geek Chain

Thanks to Joe Wyka for the last link in the chain:

Thanks to Tyrol the Great for originating the Geek Chain: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/24780/item/727288#item...

To continue the Space Theam and in honnor of the Dice game contest http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/405493 Today's chain link is 2 copys of Diceland Space!!!! Thats 4 full armies. New unpunched.

Quote:
Diceland is a tabletop combat game that uses paper dice as the characters. The dice are eight-sided, printed in full color, and about 2 inches to a side. Each die is pre-cut and scored, and assembles with just tabs and slots. The "paper" in these paper dice is 12-point coated cardstock, which makes these dice solid enough to withstand any amount of normal play.

Space: Terrans vs. Urluquai includes an 11-die Terran army, featuring a fast-moving wing of Scouts and a powerful 15-point Destroyer; the 8-die Urluquai army including both a Corvette and a Fighter with the Cloaking ability; and the 5-die Zorg army, with a fat carrier and a unique Tender which can teleport enemies off the board. Also in the Terrans vs. Urluquai box, you’ll find the friendly Klakar Frigate, an impressive 16-point frigate that’s a perfect addition to any army that can afford him.

Space: Garthans vs. Muktians includes an 11-die Garthan army, featuring both the Light and Super Carriers as well as a vast array of small Fighters; the 8-die Muktian army featuring a mix of unusual ship designs; and the 5-die Tan Ru army, featuring a powerhouse 15-point Decimator and a wing of three mindless Drones. Also in the Garthans vs. Muktians box, you'll find the 50-point Yellow Kawangi die, a bizarre and powerful die that's sure to be illegal in tournaments any day now.

This is a very fun game, This is a 2nd copy I'm keep my set,

Drawing results

1 - (togepi666)
2 - (noddingoff)
4 - (unixrevolution)
5 - (Ninjabob)

Geekmail on the way! Congratulations!

And it only took me 3 tries to get the user info in this post...

You have a choice of four curtains or the revealed prize. Everyone together - Oooh! Aaaah!

The revealed prize is a gift card at any online vendor of your choice, (who does electronic gift cards)...(EDIT) for $25!

And now Curtain Number 1!
d10-1 Released in the current millenium, it's a game of area control and tile placement. This is the first one, the base of the series. What could it be?

Next we have Curtain Number 2!
d10-2 From 2008 comes a cooperative game that found it's name in the press an awful lot in Z009. Well, maybe not the game but the name of the game, and hey, any press is good press, right!

But what's behind Curtain Number 3?
d10-3 Well folks, we've got a game that's hitting the table a lot around Denver these days. It's the perfect 7 player filler that you've been hunting for!

But wait! There's more! We also have Curtain Number 4!
d10-4 From 2006, it's a hit or miss game - you'll love it or hate it! If you're into tile placing and making patterns, this qwirky game is for you!

RULES

No need for a boiled egg, nor any need to email me with which one you want. Just say: "I'm in" and which curtain you want, #1, #2, #3, #4 or the revealed prize.

That's all it takes! Nothing else to do but win something and then post one like this (or something else a bit more creative). All of the opportunities, the curtains, need to be a game if you do the same type of thing.

Winner will be chosen at random, but feel free to try and guess the games. I've thrown in small hints in the descriptions.

Winner will be chosen on Friday July 24 in the evening. So let's have some fun and Let's Make A Deal!

Fjord - a Campaign level game of Arctic Convoys during WW-2.

Men Against Fire - a role-playing sort of game set in the WW-2 Pacific Theatre.

I'll randomly draw a name in a week-ish.

Grouch Chain

Thanks to Erik's eight-sided die, I'm the next link in the Grouch Chain. He pulled out all of the stops with his very generous offer, but I've decided that it's time to put some of the stops back in.

What's more grouchy than sports and politics?

I'm offering a copy of Battleball. It's been played a couple of times, but the figures are still resting in their original, form-fitted blister pack. Excellent condition!

And a copy of Mr. President. It's the original 3M Bookshelf edition. It is in good shape, clean, and perhaps complete - but there is no components list, so I can't swear by the complete part. Excellent condition?

Plus some miscellaneous stuff: a Decktet, a fistful of HeroClix, some Reeses Pieces, and whatever else is required to fill out the box.

Drawing in about a week.

Up for giveaway is one starter set of NFL Showdown 2003 ("WotC's 2003 effort was indeed a vast improvement over the original2002 which had all the problems" the 2002 version is lowering the rating here on BGG)
See review at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/84442

This game makes use of an electronic bar code reader that resolves play selection. The defense and offense swipe their cards through the reader and then the reader requests a specific player card be swiped through and this will generate a play result.

Are you ready for some Football!!

ORIGINAL CHAIN

Thanks to Ken for Pandemic, now if I can just manage to connect with him to make the swap!

Here's my offering - a 1968 Avalon Hill 3M Acquire, in excellent condition. It appears unplayed & is in fact only partially punched, many of the stock certificates are still attached, as well as most of the money. There's some minor bowing on the interior box, but nothing to severe.
I'll leave this up a week or 10 days.
My life has been a little busy lately, so if you don't here from me in 2 weeks somebody drop me a geek mail & remind me to pick a winner!

GROGNARD CHAIN

Okay, in the interest of not boring the rest of you to sleep, which seems to be what the chains have turned into recently, I am posting the next GROGNARD offering immediately. You will receive two (yes, that's two) copies of the classic parallelogram board game, SNIPER! One copy is missing rules, but that's okay, since you have the rules from the other. There may be a counter or two missing from one of these, but that's okay, since you're going to have two copies of this rhombus based game. Like SIMOV? You'll love SNIPER! Like Command and Control rules? You'll LOVE SNIPER! I think I might add another sweetner to this also, but that'll have to be a mystery. As an added bonus, both copies are in the classic SPI flat tray, which we all know, has really stood up to time and never degrades in condition at all.

For those of you who obsess over condition, neither copy of SNIPER! will set you on fire, and the copies are the older SPI SSG version. Clearly, both games were punched and played, and loved.

And for those of you who obsess over what you'll be getting, there will be at least one additional game or expansion in the box with your twin SNIPER! pack. Will it be one of the 5 copies of TITO in my storage unit? Or something more... mainstream? Its free, take your chances.

I will let the requests come pouring in from all over BGG land for about one week, or until the flood threatens to overwhelm the email servers at the geek.

Okay, the requests have been noted, and Random.Org has generated a winner - LargeMike!

Mike, give me an email with your address to ship your items out to you. Wonder what'll be in the box??? (Besides dueling Snipers!)

You have won the "Let's Make a Deal" chain!

I'll be GeekMailing you shortly regarding your prize of:
Monkeys on the Moon (Autographed by Jim Doherty the designer.)
Rook
Qwitch (New in package.)

===========================================================

Once again, it’s time for "LET’S MAKE A DEAL!!!"

You have the choice of a revealed prize or you can try your luck at one of the curtains!

Revealed Prize #1:
Hive: New and unplayed. Edition pictured. Wooden pieces.

Revealed Prize #2:
An original Nintendo Gameboy with Super Mario Land and The New Chessmaster included. In good shape. Tested and operational.

Curtain #1:

Outmaneuver the other pilots in this aerial dogfight--Come fly the unfriendly skies! (Twelve miniatures are included, which works great for 2 players commanding full squadrons and divides up well for 3 or 4 player combat.)

Curtain #2:

A miniatures game with CMG tendencies. However, if you don't mind supplying your own figures, everything you need is in the box to play this unique army building and combat system. (Ten miniatures are included.)

Curtain #3:

Three card games including: 1) Space traveling primates (autographed by game designer), 2) play that bird wisely for the win, and 3) a family game for 3 to 5 straight out of the box (new in package).

RULES: You do not need to email me with which one you want. Just say: "I'm in" and indicate which prize you want. Due to shipping costs, please, limit entries to the USA and Canada.

If you win this chain, please, keep the chain going with at least 2 games and a revealed prize or some other more creative equivalent of your choosing. Just remember that this is BoardGameGeek, so board games are a necessity.

A random winner will be determined on Saturday, August 8.

(EDIT: I updated and added additional information to some of the descriptions. I have Geekmailed the three entries that have already been posted in case it affects their choices, though I doubt it will.)

The Mystery Box Chain

Thanks to Mike (schlappy) for putting up the last box -- I've detailed what I got in the geeklist mentioned below!

WARNING:
This is for residents of U.S. only. Why? Because everyone winning this chain will get a PRIORITY MAIL FLAT RATE BOX (though it has become the LARGE FLAT RATE BOX lately) stuffed full of games and/or gaming accessories and/or other stuff.

RULES:
1. The giver must put more than one game into the box.

2. The giver is also required to give one hint concerning one game in the box.

3. GM me with your guess as to what game I am hinting at. If you are correct, you will receive one extra entry in the drawing.

4. If you win, you are expected to post the contents of your box in the following geeklist: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/34124

5. I'll keep the list open until sometime on August 9th, and will notify the winner both here and by GM. Good luck!

The Hint: A couple goes on a crime spree...

Using a random number generator, Lisa Wong is the winner. Thanks for playing!

The "Share the Love" Chain

Thanks to Kevin (kevintlee) for the last chain items!
This offering has been too long in the making and you can ask me if you want to hear all the excuses.

Rules for the Share the Love Chain:

6. If the Share the Love chain makes it back around to me (unixrevolution), I have the option of closing it off for good.

7. Because microbadges are only awarded to users who have given a game away, winners of "Giveaway" packages will not recieve microbadges (though if you already have one, I won't take it away )

THE GEEK CHAIN

Thanks to Peter Loop for the copies of Diceland: Space. My family's getting ready to go on vacation, and having games which can travel well is always appreciated!

I have wracked my brain about what would be a sufficiently "geeky" link. Then I read the first link in this chain, looked at my own microbadges, and had an idea. Now, I apologize in advance for those of you who are expecting unusual titles to appear in these chains. I do think there are some fellow geeks who will appreciate these offerings.

First up is a copy of Adel Verpflichtet by FX Schmid. The inaugural winner of the Deutscher Spiele Preis in 1990, it also won the Spiel des Jahres that same year. This is a German copy, and I'll include a copy of the instructions in English.

Next, we have a copy of Catan:

        Catan

What? You don't own this yet? Well then, here's your chance! Catan won both the DSP and the SdJ in 1995. This copy is the Mayfair 3rd Edition, punched, bagged, and virtually unplayed. I'll also include a copy of matching replacement game cards:

     The Settlers of Catan:
   Replacement Game Cards

But wait! That's not all. There's one more game which will be winging its way to the lucky winner:

    Carcassonne

Carcassonne won both awards in 2001. I also think it is the game from which the term "Meeple" originated.

There you go: three venerable classics here on the 'Geek. These games are essentially mandatory requirements for your BGG qual card. Get these check boxes punched today!

The deadline for contest submissions will be 12:00 AM CST (midnight BGG time) this Sunday, 9 August.

Entries submitted at the deadline minute will count; those time stamped on or after 12:01 AM will not. I will use random.org to generate the winning number from those who enter. Good luck!

Our contestants are:

1. kevintlee

The "Let's Make A Deal" Chain

and the results are in...

random.org chose/rolled a 1. if you ask me, 1 is not a very random number. but there you go. that means the winner is Modoc. geekmail with your address, Mr. Modoc, and i will have these games in the mail.

I'll start with the revealed game:
Taboo

I played this game long ago, well before I got interested in board games. The game was spoiled for me, permanently, by someone overly strict with the rules, who, funnily enough, then gave me a copy for Christmas. So it has sat around, still in shrinkwrap, for over a decade. Now you can put it on your shelf for another decade, by which it will surely have increased in value.

sigh.. will no one take my Taboo?

On to the curtains! I am lame at clever clues, but here goes. Probably either everyone will guess which game(s), or no one will...

Curtain #1 - no funny symbols for names here, but plenty of war in this diceless fantasy wargame. Ordered off tanga, I don't think I've even punched it (too lazy to go in the other room and look).

this was Prince of Chaos: Battle for Tae Orn

Curtain #2 - 3 card games for the price of one (free!)
- a game everyone loves or hates, WITH ZOMBIES!
- one of a series, no doubt Frederic March and Miriam Hopkins played often on the set
- vive le revolution!

the three card games here were Zombie Fluxx, Mystery Rummy: Jekyll & Hyde, and Guillotine, all games i have played and enjoyed

Curtain #3 - a couple of WWII war games, unpunched, from Avalanche Press. Boo Nazis!

these games, the winner's choices, are Alsace 1945 and Gazala 1942

I'll draw next Sunday, August 16th. Remember to list your choice.
