Discussion Thread is Here!

The original Chain of Generosity is here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/23326/ This list is a continuation.

The Chain has been, and continues to be, an enormous success. Thank you to all the people who've kept it going for over two years!

Boardgamegeek is a wonderful place. The friendly, helpful, generous users here make this one of the best online communities. I want to contribute to that spirit, so I have created the BGG Chain of Generosity.

Here's how the BGG Chain of Generosity (The Chain) works:

Step 1: I will seed the list with a giveaway game. Anyone who wants that game can leave a comment to that effect. After 2 days (on Friday) I will randomly choose (using the random integer generator at random.org) a recipient for the game, and geekmail them to set up shipping to their house.

Step 2: The recipient of the game will then choose a game from their collection (probably from their trade list) and post it as an item here for more people (or maybe the same people) to comment on and enter. After about 2 days (this can vary) they will do a drawing, and a that person will win the game.

Step 3: The new recipient repeats step 2.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

RULES:

1. You must comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the drawing to recieve it in order to be eligible to win.

2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away in this fashion. If you don't like that idea, don't play.

3. In the unlikely event that no offers are made on your game by 48 hours after posting, try a different game in its place.

4. If you wish to start a second (or third, or fourth) chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description. For those later in the chain, identify which chain your game belongs to.

5. Sender pays shipping, unless he indicates in his entry that the recipient will and under what grounds (International shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where recipient pays shipping agree to do so.

Pretty simple rules, eh?

Other Considerations:

The game you post should be one that most of the BGG community might want to have. Ideally, one on your trade list. The dual-purpose of this list is to spread goodwill and give unliked games a good home.

You can win multiple times. Just keep in mind each time you win a game you'll be giving another one away.

TIME TO SHARE THE LOVE!!

Rules for the Share the Love Chain:

1. The person posting a Share the Love chain item must offer 2 packages. Each package must contain at least one game, but may contain multiple games or a game and other items.

2. One package is pre-designated the "Chain" Item. The second package is the "Giveaway" item. When the winner is drawn, 2 drawings are made.

The first drawing is the entrant who gets the "Chain" package, and will post the next item in the chain. The second drawing entrant gets the "Giveaway" package. The winner of the Giveaway package does not post a chain item: They simply get their giveaway package for free!

3. All entrants have an equal chance of being selected for either item. An entrant may be asked only to be drawn for the Chain item, but may not ask to be entered only for the "Giveaway" package.

4. No entrant may win both the Chain and Giveaway package, unless they are the only entrant.

5. Entrants must indicate their interest by commenting "I'm in" or similar. Thumbs do NOT count as valid entries.

6. If the Share the Love chain makes it back around to me (unixrevolution), I have the option of closing it off for good.

7. Because microbadges are only awarded to users who have given a game away, winners of "Giveaway" packages will not recieve microbadges (though if you already have one, I won't take it away )

So I am offering a copy of that old standby, Carcassonne. I will even throw in a copy of the Carcassonne: King & Scout expansion along with it. That's the main prize.

The free gift will be a couple of card games...Caesar & Cleopatra and Inkognito: The Card Game.

I will let this run the obligatory week or so before Rilyn picks the winner.

Thanks for the interest in advance.

*EDIT* Sorry about the wait on this one. Rilyn will be picking the winners when I get home from work today!

OK sorry again - long weekend. Anyway, click on the video below to see who Rilyn picks, or if you don't want to youtube it, scroll down and check the spoiler text instead.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
Main winner is Grafspoo, the winner of the free gift is Unixrevolution.

Geekmails will be sent shortly!

The second game will be one of the following:

If for some reason more than six (6) people sign up I will send the winner all three (3) games.

Sorry for the delay. I was out of town at a regional convention.

*FULL CIRCLE CHAIN*

The Rules wrote:
1. The Full Circle Chain continues until its originator replies to an item with the comment "Full Circle!" prior to the deadline date for that item. The originator then becomes the winner of that item, rather than the winner being chosen by random selection.

2. If the originator does not claim "Full Circle!", the winner must be selected using random.org with the time-stamped output appended to the decription of the item offered.

3. If the originator of the chain has claimed any of the last five items at the time he or she claims "Full Circle!", he must re-seed the chain and the chain continues. If the originator has not claimed any of the last five items in the chain, then the chain may be closed at the discretion of the originator.

Example 1: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C, winner of C offers D, winner of D offers E. Originator claims "Full Circle!" for item E and closes chain. (If originator does not claim "E", he or she could claim any offering thereafter to close the chain.)

Example 2: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C. Originator claims "Full Circle!" for item C and MUST provide item D to continue the chain. (Originator will not be able to close chain until at least item H.)

4. Offerings shipped to the continental US only.

5. Winners must provide the next offering within 7 days of winning. Items should be offered for a period not to exceed 14 days. If an item receives no interest within 7 days, the offering should be modified or replaced (which restarts the "not to exceed 14 day" period).

6. These rules must accompany each offering in the chain. All offerings in the chain must be lettered "A", "B", "C", etc. If "Z" is reached, continue with "AA", "BB", etc. All offerings must include the date on which the winner will be selected.

Offering A:

A punched but unplayed copy of Industria. Winner will be selected on September 4th.

Rationale:

This is the third chain I've started (the others being the Grouch Chain and the Consolation Chain). I'd like to ensure I get as good as I give (thus the "Full Circle!" claim), but without being too greedy about it (thus the five items rule). I'd like to be sure that chains do not stagnate (hence the time limits), that winners are chosen fairly and transparently (hence providing output from random.org) and that noone gets stuck with an unplanned overseas shipping expense (hence the CONUS only shipping). YMMV. This rationale is not required to be reproduced with any other offerings in this chain.

Winner

The main offering is a two-fer. For your two-player nights I am offering Kahuna. And for four or more, hot off the shelves, Are You the Traitor?. For three, well, sorry, you're on your own.

The free gift will be a shrink-wrapped copy of Ninja Versus Ninja.

edit: forgot to mention, drawing will likely be september 3

The Mystery Box Chain

Thanks to Lisa Wong (hugz313) for putting up the last box (my 2nd Mystery Box win!) -- it was chock full of goodies, many of which were clearly personalized just for me! I'll post my box contents as soon as Lisa does -- tho she's currently in the middle of some higher priorities.

WARNING: THIS IS FOR US RESIDENTS ONLY!! Why? Because everyone winning this chain will get a PRIORITY MAIL FLAT RATE BOX (though it has become the LARGE FLAT RATE BOX lately) stuffed full of games and/or gaming accessories and/or other stuff.

Sorry folks -- a surprise 50-hour work weekend got the better of me until now, but here goes! First, there were no extra entries scored -- everyone who responded was certainly on the right track, but wrong train. You'll see what I mean when the winner posts his winnings.

Which of course brings us to the winner: I plugged a "13" into RANDOM.ORG, and it responded with a 9 -- meaning that this chain's winner is --

There is no budget for rules in the Cheap Chain. It's cheap. It's a chain.

I'm offering Wench and the Decktet. One of these decks is full of buxom women, the other full of toothsome animals. Good luck to you if you want to invent a game that uses both decks together.

GEEK CHAIN

first of all, I would like to sincerely apologize for the long delay. my fiancee (angry duck) and i are getting married on 9/20, and the deadlines to meet for all the details are endless. next, i would like to thank shivandrgn for sending me some great games. i can't wait to try them. now, onto the new offering.

with the help of my fiancee, and keeping the wedding theme in mind, we decided to create two geeky wedding gift baskets (boxes) for the winners of this chain and the original chain below. both basket will include at least one item from each of the categories below. however, the baskets will contain slightly different things from each category.

7) anime
8) music
9) video games
10) sports
11) movie
12) war
13) puzzle

ORIGINAL CHAIN

first of all, I would like to sincerely apologize for the long delay. my fiancee (angry duck) and i are getting married on 9/20, and the deadlines to meet for all the details are endless. next, i would like to thank flakybiscuit for sending me some great games. i can't wait to try them. now, onto the new offering.

with the help of my fiancee, and keeping the wedding theme in mind, we decided to create two geeky wedding gift baskets (boxes) for the winners of this chain and the geek chain above. both basket will include at least one item from each of the categories below. however, the baskets will contain slightly different things from each category.

1) board games
2) sci-fi
3) fantasy
4) horror
5) pop culture/news
6) science/technology
7) anime
8) music
9) video games
10) sports
11) movie
12) war
13) puzzle
14) comic book
15) women

however, since this is not the mystery box chain (which is my favorite), i will reveal the following games that are in this basket.

Tutankhamen

Dancing Dice

A punched copy of the game. All of the counters are bagged according to nationality. The mapsheet composed of four maps was cut in half to make it easier to lay out. The cut does not cross any of the maps.

I will leave this open until 9/18.

Good Luck

The main offering is a nice little two player game, Fjords

The free gift will be a shrink-wrapped copy of Carcassonne: Traders & Builders

I will be ending this beast Wed 09.30.2009. Good luck!

*Using my top secret randomization method, Calling on the dark lords of chaos and randomness, I have been handed these two names as being worthy of receiving the chain items:
nswoll - Will become the next link in the chain with the main item
turtlecolor - Gets the bonus freebie! Enjoy your free ride, loafer!

Cheap Chain!

Thanks to P.D. Magnus for the running the last contest, both decks are very cool.

There are no rules to the Cheap Chain. It's cheap, it's a chain.

I'm offering a complete Age of Mythology: The Boardgame. It's cheap to me, I got it at a yard sale It has great bits even if you don't like the game.

If no one is interested by Tuesday morning, I'll dig out something else.

I'll choose a winner by Random.org Friday night (25th), to send it out Saturday.

Good luck!

Using the True Random Number Generator on the random.org website the winner is #7 Lance M UndeadViking http://www.boardgamegeek.com/user/UndeadViking

*** FULL CIRCLE CHAIN ***

Thanks to bill_andel for starting this chain, and for sending me the first item, Industria!

OFFERING "B"
2005 AH/WotC edition -- complete and in great shape. Shipping only to continental US, for which I will cover all costs.

DEADLINE:
I will keep the list open until sometime on Monday, Sept 28th. I will use RANDOM.ORG to determine a winner, and notify on this list & by GM.

THE RULES:
1. The Full Circle Chain continues until its originator (bill_andel) replies to an item with the comment "Full Circle!" prior to the deadline date for that item.

From the thread's creator, bill_andel:

Quote:
This is the third chain I've started (the others being the Grouch Chain and the Consolation Chain). I'd like to ensure I get as good as I give (thus the "Full Circle!" claim), but without being too greedy about it (thus the five items rule). I'd like to be sure that chains do not stagnate (hence the time limits), that winners are chosen fairly and transparently (hence providing output from random.org) and that noone gets stuck with an unplanned overseas shipping expense (hence the CONUS only shipping). YMMV. This rationale is not required to be reproduced with any other offerings in this chain.

UPDATE:

Well, I cannot figure out how exactly to time-stamp the results at random.org, but I ran it exactly one time & have the window kept open here, (in case that's of any help), and did a copy/paste of the output:

Quote:

Max: 4

and I have contributed items to get this chain back up and running. I hope the games we chose will help to spur this chain on to long and happy life for many years to come.

I'll start with the revealed game. The revealed game for this chain will be:

The game is punched and clipped (neatly). This is a great introductory wargame with 2 pages of rules and a very small map to work with

On to the curtains!

Curtain #1 - Robot travelling is in vogue in this sleepy little town. Can you rocket your career into the office of the mayor?
REVEALED: Rocketville

Curtain #2 - Ancient structures abound, but be careful as you construct or you will loose points for the end game scoring.
REVEALED: Rumis

Curtain #3 - Cities, cities everywhere, but is there one missing? Missing you ask? well maybe not, but surely lost.
REVEALED: Lost Cities

I'll draw the winner using Random.org sometime on Monday, 5 October 2009.

Remember to list your choice, either the revealed game or curtain #.
