Discussion Thread is Here!

The original Chain of Generosity is here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/23326/ This list is a continuation.

The Chain has been, and continues to be, an enormous success. Thank you to all the people who've kept it going for over two years!

Boardgamegeek is a wonderful place. The friendly, helpful, generous users here make this one of the best online communities. I want to contribute to that spirit, so I have created the BGG Chain of Generosity.

Here's how the BGG Chain of Generosity (The Chain) works:

Step 1: I will seed the list with a giveaway game. Anyone who wants that game can leave a comment to that effect. After 2 days (on Friday) I will randomly choose (using the random integer generator at random.org) a recipient for the game, and geekmail them to set up shipping to their house.

Step 2: The recipient of the game will then choose a game from their collection (probably from their trade list) and post it as an item here for more people (or maybe the same people) to comment on and enter. After about 2 days (this can vary) they will do a drawing, and a that person will win the game.

Step 3: The new recipient repeats step 2.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

RULES:

1. You must comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the drawing to recieve it in order to be eligible to win.

2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away in this fashion. If you don't like that idea, don't play.

3. In the unlikely event that no offers are made on your game by 48 hours after posting, try a different game in its place.

4. If you wish to start a second (or third, or fourth) chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description. For those later in the chain, identify which chain your game belongs to.

5. Sender pays shipping, unless he indicates in his entry that the recipient will and under what grounds (International shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where recipient pays shipping agree to do so.

Pretty simple rules, eh?

Other Considerations:

The game you post should be one that most of the BGG community might want to have. Ideally, one on your trade list. The dual-purpose of this list is to spread goodwill and give unliked games a good home.

You can win multiple times. Just keep in mind each time you win a game you'll be giving another one away.

Please the Chosen One and you may become Chosen!

*edit* Hello? Is this thing working? Warrior Knights is wanted by over 180 people, but I guess by no one who participates in this chain. Okay my offer is changed...

My offering for the Chosen One is:

Ad Astra

Punched but not yet played. There's slight dishing on the box.

AND

Warrior Knights

FFG English version. Excellent condition except that the rulebook has some underlining and highlighting of rules (not my doing!) and it appears to be missing 1 event card (there are 39 of 40). I don't know the missing card and I don't think it will diminish your play experience.

That's right, I'm throwing BOTH games into the pot and they are now available to everybody!

A random winner of both games will be selected if I am not chosen by:
Friday, April 9th.

Rules:
1. Games are offered and won randomly per the standard BGG Chain of Generosity process except as modified below.
2. The current Chosen One has the privilege of claiming any game posted in The Chosen One Chain by posting the comment "You have been CHOSEN!" to the comments section of the current offer.
3. When the Chosen one claims again, they immediately win the current offer, lose their status as the Chosen One and the person who posted that game becomes the new Chosen One.
4. As the winner of the previous offer, the prior Chosen One must now put a game up as normal.
5. The originator of this chain (gdapkus) reserves the right to appoint a new Chosen One if a game is not Chosen within 10 rounds of offers. The purpose of this rule is to keep the chain alive if the Chosen One becomes inactive or seems to be abusing or neglecting the privilege. Use of this rule is solely at the originator's discretion and is not mandatory.
6. Listings should last between 2 and 7 days. If no interest is indicated after 48 hours, please sweeten or change your offer.
7. This is a US chain. International recipients must be willing to pay shipping cost at the sender's discretion.

Purpose:
The Chosen One Chain is meant to be a premium chain, the cream of the crop. When making offers consider what the Chosen One might be interested, try to get yourself Chosen. Hopefully, even if the Chosen one passes on your offer, you'll make someone very happy and give them the chance to catch the Chosen One's eye. While there are no mandatory minimums, players are especially encouraged to make offers that truly meet the original guideline "The game you post should be one that most of the BGG community might want to have." Hopefully by offering the chance at an additional privilege, this chain will be self correcting, and not depend on a few especially generous individuals as some have.

Original Chain CLOSED

Well reviewed re-theme of Carcassonne. Unfortunately, I don't really know anyone who likes Carcassonne, so my loss is your gain.

CHOICES ADDED

Seeing as it's Thursday night, and only four people have signed on, I'd like to sweeten it up a little bit by throwing in some options.

Now, you can pick New World: A Carcassonne Game

OR

Beowulf: The Movie Board Game - AWESOME updating of Kingdoms. I wouldn't offer it up, but I have another copy.

OR

Perikles - Punched, but unplayed

OR

Dread Pirate - In excellent condition. However, it's missing two (easily replaceable) bags and the (equally easy to replace) wind die.

AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU PICK, YOU'LL ALSO GET

Dead Hand Chaos Poker - Opened, but unplayed.

Fluxx - In excellent condition.

Monopoly Express - Excellent condition. A really fun, portable press your luck game (that suffers, at least on the Geek, due to the Monopoly in it's title).

Frenzy - All four decks in shrink.

I'll run this until Sunday, April 18th. If there's no interest in the next 48 hours, I'll sweeten it or replace it with something.

For domestic shipping, I'll ship for free. Outside of the USA, I'll cover the first $15.

AND THE WINNER IS...

Well, it's been kind of a busy weekend, what with a three year old, unemployment, & these severe headaches I've been having.

So I finally got back to it, and noticed that I had 12 participants, and I though using a D12 would be perfect.

However, I couldn't find my D12's anywhere.

I then decided Random.org. However, the webmasters there banned my IP after the last incident, and have been in communication with Verizon, so they're updated with any new IP's I acquire.

Finally, I decided to just ask some random person, but when I started to talk, those headaches came back. When I woke up, I had to hide the body find someone new.

The point of all this is that I just decided to go with 11, for no other reason then it's the number of pills I have to take to keep from "acting out." Stupid doctors I like it.

for The End of the Triumvirate -- looking forward to giving it some play time!

I thought, in honor of the geek chain, what could be geekier than a dexterity game themed on mutant germs?? So, up for offer is a copy of Micro Mutants: Evolution from Fantasy Flight Games. This game is minty fresh in the shrink wrap, and awaits your flicking, sicking enjoyment.

I will ship for free in North America, will cover the first $12 anywhere else in the world.

Will end this on Friday April 16 sometime around 10 pm EDT - I'm traveling for work the following week, so hoping to get a quick turn-around on shipping info so I can get the game out on Saturday.

Edit: added end date/time (d'oh! blush )

THE GIVEAWAY ITEM:

(with original rules; original box not included.

Rules for the Share the Love kiss Chain:

1. The person posting a Share the Love chain item must offer 2 packages. Each package must contain at least one game, but may contain multiple games or a game and other items.

2. One package is pre-designated the "Chain" Item. The second package is the "Giveaway" item. When the winner is drawn, 2 drawings are made.

The first drawing is the entrant who gets the "Chain" package, and will post the next item in the chain. The second drawing entrant gets the "Giveaway" package. The winner of the Giveaway package does not post a chain item: They simply get their giveaway package for free!

3. All entrants have an equal chance of being selected for either item. An entrant may be asked only to be drawn for the Chain item, but may not ask to be entered only for the "Giveaway" package.

4. No entrant may win both the Chain and Giveaway package, unless they are the only entrant.

5. Entrants must indicate their interest by commenting "I'm in" or similar. Thumbs do NOT count as valid entries.

6. If the Share the Love chain makes it back around to unixrevolution, he has the option of closing it off for good.

7. Because microbadges are only awarded to users who have given a game away, winners of "Giveaway" packages will not receive microbadges.

Full Circle Chain

I bring you two abstract games in Offering "N": Wayfinder & Tom Tube. The games are complete, components bagged and have only been played a few times, so both are in excellent condition.

Drawing will be held April 28th using the Integer Generator at http://random.org with a predetermined key (for verification purposes).

THE REVISED RULES (cut and paste):

1. The Full Circle Chain continues until its originator (bill_andel) replies to an item with the comment "Full Circle!" prior to the deadline date for that item. The originator then becomes the winner of that item, rather than the winner being chosen by random selection.

2. If the originator does not claim "Full Circle!", the winner must be selected using random.org with the time-stamped output appended to the description of the item offered.

3. If the originator of the chain has claimed any of the last five items at the time he or she claims "Full Circle!", he must re-seed the chain and the chain continues. The reseeded item must contain not one, but TWO offerings. This bonus offering will be drawn separately (c.f. the "Share The Love" chain). If the originator has not claimed any of the last five items in the chain, then the chain may be closed at the discretion of the originator.

Example 1: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C, winner of C offers D, winner of D offers E. Originator claims "Full Circle!" for item E and closes chain. (If originator does not claim "E", he or she could claim any offering thereafter to close the chain.)

Example 2: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C with two items. Originator claims "Full Circle!" for item C and MUST provide item D (plus bonus) to continue the chain. (Originator will not be able to close chain until at least item H.)

4. Offerings must be shipped free to at least the continental US. The person offering the item may choose to provide free shipping to a greater area.

5. Winners must provide the next offering within 7 days of winning. Items should be offered for a period not to exceed 14 days. If an item receives no interest within 7 days, the offering should be modified or replaced (which restarts the "not to exceed 14 day" period).

6. These rules must accompany each offering in the chain. All offerings in the chain must be lettered "A", "B", "C", etc. If "Z" is reached, continue with "AA", "BB", etc. All offerings must include the date on which the winner will be selected.

for a copy of Fist of Dragonstones

Been wanting a copy of that for a while, and now I have it!

Been trying to think about what to put up next, and being 1,000 miles away from my game collection I have to do this somewhat from memory, but I will post these games and run the auction until Sunday night, April 25 at 10 pm EDT - if when I get home I find my descriptions are wildly off, I'll address it on Friday, but I'm pretty sure we'll be ok here.

TO THE CHAIN WINNER:
Tigris & Euphrates

A few years back I picked this game up at a FLGS going-out-of-business sale, but haven't felt the love for it like so many other BGG'ers. And usually if I'm going to play, the person suggesting it will have a copy.
So . . . this copy is open, but the pieces are in very good condition - I don't think the temples have even been put together yet. There is some scuffing on the box, and some general wear + tear from the game being on the shelf for so long, but the game itself is in very nice shape. I bought this in 2004 or so, so it is an older edition.

THE GIVEAWAY ITEM:
Your choice of Owner's Choice

In shrink, ZMan Games.

or

Shazamm!

ZMan Edition, English, in shrink

or

Italia

In shrink.

plus I'll probably throw a surprise or two in the box as well.

I will draw on Sunday the 25th, at or about 10 pm EDT. Good luck to all!

"This classic game of pure negotiation," is rated well on BGG. This is the Avalon Hill Version with the metal pieces and was only played one time. It wasn't my favorite game, but maybe someone else will enjoy it more.

Drawing will be Tuesday, May 4.

And, random.org says the winner of the three entries is number 3.

Rules:
1. Games are offered and won randomly per the standard BGG Chain of Generosity process except as modified below.
2. The current Chosen One has the privilege of claiming any game posted in The Chosen One Chain by posting the comment "You have been CHOSEN!" to the comments section of the current offer.
3. When the Chosen one makes the above announcement, he immediately wins the current offer, lose their status as the Chosen One and the person who posted that game becomes the new Chosen One.
4. As the winner of the offer, the prior Chosen One must now put a game up as normal.

Well, this has been a long time in coming. I have been rather captivated by my new daughter lately.

So any way, enough of the gushy stuff. I am offering up my copy of Perikles! It's practically new, I only ended up playing it once.

And since there happens to be some more filler space in the box I have, I will also be including

Both games are in excellent condition, the cards for Landlord are still in shrink. Landlord does not include the rule booklet, but I have printed out the rules from BGG and will include my printed copy.

Rules:
1. Games are offered and won randomly per the standard BGG Chain of Generosity process except as modified below.
2. The winner of the game *should* be outside your own country. This chain was designed to better Canadian/American international relationships.
3. If no one from the neighboring country is in the draw by the draw date, you may draw someone from your own country.
4. When sending your gift, it is highly encouraged, but optional, that you include a small token representative of something unique to your state/province.
5. When listing your offer, change the name of the chain in the title to reflect the correct spelling of "neighbour/neighbor" in your country.
6. Listings should last between 3 and 7 days. If no interest is indicated after 48 hours, please sweeten or change your offer.
7. This is primarily a Canada/US chain. The sender must pay full shipping costs within Canada/US. International recipients are welcome to participate but must be willing to pay shipping cost at the sender's discretion.

Purpose:
The Love Thy Neighbour Chain is designed primarily for card games and any small games that can fit in the US small flat-rate boxes. However, exceptionally generous individuals are welcomed to offer bigger prizes to their neighbours if they have the means.

The Mystery Box is BACK!

Sorry it took so long, but you know how it is. I had to figure out what I wanted to put in there is all.

RULES:
1. The giver must put more than one game into the box.

2. The giver is also required to give at least one hint concerning one game in the box.

3. GM me with your guess as to what game I am hinting at. If you are correct, you will receive one extra entry in the drawing. (multiple guesses are allowed).

4. If you win, you are expected to post the contents of your box in the following geek list: What's in the Box? Chain of generosity - Mystery Box contents (I'll be getting to that sometime this week, I hope)

The Hint:
1) A licensed game that doesn't get a whole lot of love, but that doesn't mean its bad.
2) An early design from a respected abstract designer, that you've probably never heard of.

There will, of course, be plenty of other things in the box, but that is the big stuff that I know at the moment.

End date: I'll draw on Monday the 9th, though I may not get to the post office until much later in the week.

Please the Chosen One and you may become Chosen!

My offering for the Chosen One is:

Alhambra

Game has been played a few times and is in very good condition. This is the English 2003 Uberplay/Queen edition. When this was gifted to me, I was told that at the time this was the "preferred" version, although I can't think for the life of me why.

AND

1960: The Making of the President

Again the game has been played a few times and is in very good condition. There are a couple of small dents on the edges of the box. Again, this is the "preferred" 2nd printing.

Rules:

Full Circle Chain -O-

Here's my offer: Carcassonne the Castle

Game has been played once or twice, box has a small dent on top and a small tear on the bottom edge, otherwise all bits like new.

I will also add a couple of card games to the box when shipped.

Contest ends 5/23 good luck

And the winner is #1

Missed it by that much ...
mbmbmbmbmb
for a copy of Tigris & Euphrates

Took me a little while to come up with what I wanted to post up, as I have quite a few games, and since this was my 1st chain win, I thought I would put something up thats quite old and out of print. With that being said...

TO THE CHAIN WINNER:
Talisman

When I first got into strategic board gaming in my mid-teens, the 1st game I was introduced to was Talisman. Being a fan of D&D and RPG's in general, this was a logical first step. Its a fun game, lots of replay value, and as I've always described it, if you can roll a 6 sided die, you can play =)

This is a 2nd edition copy. The contents are, i'd say, in Good to Excellent Shape. All the cards, rules, and board are present. The only thing missing is one or two of the carboard chits representing the Craft, Strength, and Life values, but there are enough of them to not impact the game play at all.

THE GIVEAWAY ITEM:
Your choice of Agricola: Through the Seasons

Near Mint / Mint condition - English version

or

Descent / Runebound / Runewars Figure: Jonas the Kind

**Runewars** & Descent & Runebound cards, in Near Mint condition (figure not included)

or

Descent / Runebound / Runewars Figure: Truthseer Kel

**Runewars** & Descent & Runebound cards, in Near Mint condition (figure not included)

Note:
Due to being recently laid off, winners of this chain will be required to pay shipping, USPS based on your location, and/or if you want insurance. (payment accepted via paypal only)

I will draw on Monday May the 31st, at or about 11 pm CST. Good luck to all!

7. Because microbadges are only awarded to users who have given a game away, winners of "Giveaway" packages will not receive microbadges.

for supplying me with a nice copy of Diplomacy. It will be cannibalized to good use. zombie

Next up is this solid, mid-weight game from Michael Schacht. English Edition, still in the original shrinkwrap.

I will ship via the most affordable method. If the winner would like it to arrive faster, that person will need to pay for the balance.

I will select a winner from all entrants sometime on Saturday, May 22.

EDIT: To get me in the mood for randomly selecting my winner, I'll play a little Three Dog Night:

One is the lonliest number that you'll ever do...

Congrats!
