Discussion Thread is Here!

The original Chain of Generosity is here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/23326/ This list is a continuation.

The Chain has been, and continues to be, an enormous success. Thank you to all the people who've kept it going for over two years!

Boardgamegeek is a wonderful place. The friendly, helpful, generous users here make this one of the best online communities. I want to contribute to that spirit, so I have created the BGG Chain of Generosity.

Here's how the BGG Chain of Generosity (The Chain) works:

Step 1: I will seed the list with a giveaway game. Anyone who wants that game can leave a comment to that effect. After 2 days (on Friday) I will randomly choose (using the random integer generator at random.org) a recipient for the game, and geekmail them to set up shipping to their house.

Step 2: The recipient of the game will then choose a game from their collection (probably from their trade list) and post it as an item here for more people (or maybe the same people) to comment on and enter. After about 2 days (this can vary) they will do a drawing, and a that person will win the game.

Step 3: The new recipient repeats step 2.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

RULES:

1. You must comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the drawing to recieve it in order to be eligible to win.

2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away in this fashion. If you don't like that idea, don't play.

3. In the unlikely event that no offers are made on your game by 48 hours after posting, try a different game in its place.

4. If you wish to start a second (or third, or fourth) chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description. For those later in the chain, identify which chain your game belongs to.

5. Sender pays shipping, unless he indicates in his entry that the recipient will and under what grounds (International shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where recipient pays shipping agree to do so.

Pretty simple rules, eh?

Other Considerations:

The game you post should be one that most of the BGG community might want to have. Ideally, one on your trade list. The dual-purpose of this list is to spread goodwill and give unliked games a good home.

You can win multiple times. Just keep in mind each time you win a game you'll be giving another one away.

new Geek Chain Item

The Generosity Gods have been kind to me lately. I've one two items in the last 2 weeks!

Up for grabs in this chain is a DIY copy of Cheeky Monkey (I'm a bit of a crafts geek in addition to being a game geek cool

The item pictured is not the one I have, but the graphics are essentially the same. This is made using fairly nice poker chips, not cheap flimsy plastic ones. I don't have a spare bag on hand, so I'll also include a bag filled with 10
Drawing will be in a week or so.

Edit: & the winner is - ced1106

GROUCH CHAIN yukangryrobot

Sorry I haven't posted something up here sooner, it's been crazy busy at work (which is enough to make me a grouch, so this chain is fitting).

Up for offering is a copy of Nottingham, a nice game from Uberplay. This game is NIS (one of the good things I actually got from Tanga) and comes from a smoke free home. I'll also throw in a copy of the base game for Bang
- that game has been played, but is in good condition + again, smoke + odor free.

Free shipping in US, first $10 anywhere else.

We'll roll some random integers on Wednesday, November 26.

Original Chain

I updated the original with stocks, player aids and a mounted map. I will be sending along 3 other games that should make someone happy. I will draw over the weekend.

I finally found one of those random number websites. I usually like to roll dice, but found it easier to click around tonight instead of figuring out what combo of dice to roll for 30 people and then have to go to the basement and find the right dice. Anyway I'm making a short story long, the winner is... #5 count down the list to number 5 and there is our proud owner owner of the Winsome game about trains. Enjoy.

And since I forgot to thank Subhan publicly let me take that chance now. Some friends already borrowed it to take it on a flight. Thanks Subhan!

CONSOLATION CHAIN!!!

...where "losers" like me are KING! Why? Because the one rule of THE CONSOLATION CHAIN is this: you can not participate if you have won more than one game offered in this geeklist.

See entry 109 for the Consolation Chain list of who is not eligible (which probably is in need of updating):

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/24780/item/751644#item...

This Tanga-themed consolation triple pack includes Battle of the Bands: Encore Edition, its expansion Backstage Pass, and the ever-popular Saga!

I'll be drawing the names using a handy dandy random number generator next Monday, Nov 24th, at 12pm EST; this will give me enough time to forward the games along before I leave for Thanksgiving. If I've really got it together (and you respond quickly to your congratulatory email), I'll be able to send them out that day, and then you might even receive them in time to play them with your family! Happy turkey day everyone!

UPDATE:
Random Integer Generator

Here are your random numbers:

3

And in fact, I generated 10 numbers, just for curiosity's sake. The first three were all 3's, which is a clear sign from God that Gerald is our new loser winner! Expect an email shortly.

CARD GAME ONLY CHAIN

The concept here is to stick with card games, especially those that we can fit into a nice small padded envelope (so shipping should be cheap.)

Loco! version pictured, but I no longer have the box. Everything is there, nicely packed in a plastic bag.

Also: Freeloader

Opened, but cards are in shrink and pieces are uncut.

If you're interested in getting these two for free, post what you think the temperature will be in Ventura, California on Monday, Nov. 24 at 8:00 PM Pacific Time (in Fahrenheit). Guesses must be made by Saturday at 11 PM Pacific Time. Closest guess to actual result wins the games! In case of a tie, I'll use the old standby--random number generator.

Good Luck!

MONDAY UPDATE

Well, according to accuweather.com, Ventura was 60 degrees at 8 PM...
So 90 the winner is Katy Wickman

We temporarily interrupt this Geek Chain for (yet another)
Mystery Curtain Coffin Box... OF HORROR!!!

Additional rules:
* Solve the Puzzle to win an additional entry.
* List in your entry which curtains you are most interested in, so I can fit multiple items in the flat rate Box. If you are not interested in the bonus item, specifically say so.

Coffin 1.
Theme: CCGs.. OF THE DEAD
Hint: You ain't just whistlin'

Coffin 2.
Theme: Anime and Manga
Hint: The World

Coffin 3.
Game: That's Edutainment!
Puzzle: Transform the first word into the second by either REPLACING a letter or REARRANGING the letters in a step-by-step process. You cannot to both in the same step. Transform DEAD into WOOD in 6 steps!

EDIT: Each step results in a legal word. For example, DEAD -> DEAL would be a replacement step, and DEAL -> LEAD would be a rearrangement step. Transforming DEAD into WOOD has five legal words between them, (none of them DEAL or LEAD). (Sorry about the confusion!)

Bonus item: I found several old comics of this popular horror writer, whose movies were popular starting in the late 1980's. These comics are for mature readers only. Hint: See the Additional Rules.

EDIT: Okay, the coin came up heads, I can't find comics, and the one card game that was the hint took up almost the entire flat rate box. Congrats, anyway, Dellarna!

GROGNARD CHAIN

Hey, all, sorry about the delay in posting my grognard chain up. I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of wargames, so my offer on the chain is a copy of Starship Troopers. It's a great game, I only had the chance to play a couple of times.

The box, being almost 30 years old, is showing some wear, but there are no tears in it or anything. All of the pieces are there and in good condition. I'll draw for this after the holiday weekend (meaning Monday morning).

As there were only two entrants for this, I'm going to flip a coin. Heads is the first entrant, tails the second. And it is...heads! Congrats, Damanthia! I'll be GeekMailing your shortly for your info

ORIGINAL CHAIN

The winner may pick TWO of the following games.
(and yes, Pick Two is one of the choices . . .)

In addition, for every 5 GeekGold you tip this entry, you may select one extra game if you are the winner. So for example, someone who tips 5 GG may select three games, someone who tips 30 GG may select eight games, and 50 GG would take the entire lot. But tips will only be accepted BEFORE the drawing - it's like buying a lottery ticket. The winner doesn't have to choose their games until after the drawing is conducted.

Entries and tips will be accepted on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday only. The drawing will occur after midnight Wednesday night. I will be asking an impartial moderator to do the random drawing for me, since some entries may pay out more than others. That way, no one can suspect me of rigging the results. GeekMail me if you want to volunteer to do the drawing - but it needs to be someone who's not going to enter the lottery.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

*****

UPDATE: Entries are closed at 35 contestants, and I've asked one of the BGG admins to retrieve the random number for us, and post the results as a comment to this item. I'll update this entry with the winner once the results are in.

Thanks to all those who tipped. These users are pledged one extra game, should one of them win:

I'm going to hold off doing the drawing until Monday December 1st at around 9pm Central (give or take an hour due to work schedule), this way anyone who is out traveling for the holiday still has time to enter. It also helps work around my horrible retail hours . The drawing will be done traditional gamer style, with some dice from my dice bag!

Cheap Chain

I will put together two decks that will be fun to play against each other. Neither deck will likely be tournament legal, but they will be tuned and adjusted to play well. They will include a mix of commons, uncommons, and rares, and will include sets up to Weatherlight, which is when I stopped collecting. Rules will also be included. If you haven't played before, this would be a good chance to get a "taste". If you have played before, here is your chance to get a few older cards that you might not have.

Also Two playable decks of this with rules.

Or 221B Baker St.: Sherlock Holmes & the Time Machine

Or Jumpin

I will let this run until Monday 12/01 and will then draw a winner.

Card Game Only Chain

While trying to come up with the next entry for the Card Game Only Chain, I realized I don't have anything in my collection that I'm quite ready to part with that followed the feeling of this chain. Therefore I'm going to do as so many have done before and offer to purchase a game and have it shipped directly to the winner.

So the next entry in the Card Game Only Chain will be Ultimate Werewolf: Ultimate Edition purchased from and shipped by Bezier Games.

At this point, it's currently listed as available directly through http://games.bezier.com/direct.html. My plan will be to order it on behalf of the winner after I draw. However, should it be unavailable at that time, I'll work out with the winner a way to get either a different game or a preorder for this one through an online retailer.

I'm going to close entries for this on Black Friday (11/28) at noon CST. I will plan to draw a winner that afternoon.

-----------------------------------
Entries:

1. Cedric Chin (ced1106)
2. Kendall Merriman (personwholives)
3. Jeff Bridgham (jebry)
4. Keith Creighton (starwarsgolfer)

The Thanksgiving USPS Flat Rate Priority Mystery Box Special!

*cue autumn leaves*

*cue traditional Thanksgiving music - which I think is the music supermarkets play when advertising their turkey specials...*

Time once again to celebrate this holiday before it gets completely steamrolled by Chirstmas! What better way to celebrate than with a mystery box...

The first rule of Mystery Box is that Mystery Box contains more than one game.

The second rule of Mystery Box is that you must give a hint about one game in the Mystery Box. If you GM me with the correct guess then you get one additional entry for Mystery Box.

My hint: The Little Chrome Dome. Purvis. Jackass. Flash. The gang's all here!

The last rule of Mystery Box is that you must post the contents of Mystery Box to http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/34124. (The box I recieved has been posted. KSensei, where's yours?...

I do not know all of what will be in Mystery Box. I won't decide until there is a winner and then I will cater to the individual as much as my available gamage with allow (which means it may be very catered, or not catered at all!).

I plan on determining a winner, probably by some convoluted dice roll, on Friday 12/5.

*cue sentimental end of Thanksgiving music*

Another year, another turkey special...

EDIT: I have decided that a winner will be chosen by using a game from the mystery box I recieved. I will create brackets and have Knizia Decathlon competitions between the entrants. I will post the brackets and the results here. Those with double entries will not be facing themselves in the first round, but may in a subsequent round, which will result in an automatic pass. I'm not sure if I'll have the time to complete the competition entirely on Friday night, but I will at least post first round results, hopefully more. If the numbers don't work out evenly, I'll create dummy entries. If a dummy wins, I guess I'll just pick a winner at random.org in order to not have to repeat the madness. THE GAMES BEGIN FRIDAY NIGHT!

Let's Make A Deal Chain!

Have you ever watched Let's Make A Deal? Well, there's a new chain and it goes like this:

You have a choice and all three are games (or multiple games, as the case may be).

You can either choose
Curtain #1 which is:

Yes, Blokus Trigon, sealed in shrink, and ready for your holiday 're-gifting'.

** OR **
You can choose Curtain #2 NOW REVEALED

HINT: A game from my favorite designer, plus the small box version of a nautical "goodie".

Pull back the curtain and find:

and

** OR **
You can choose Curtain #3 NOW REVEALED

Hint: The letter 'R'. In fact, lots of them...

Behind curtain #3 was:

as well as

Six sealed decks for the 7th Sea CCG. That's a lot of 'Arrrr'.

Hope you all enjoyed. Thanks for playing!

RULES: You do not need to email me with which one you want. Just say:

"I'm in" and which curtain you want, #1, #2 or #3.

No other hints, nothing else to do but win a game and then post one like this or something else a bit more creative. All of the opportunities, the curtains, need to be a game if you do the same type of thing.

Edit: It has been suggested to me to include further terms. If you win this chain, please either keep the chain going with at least 2 games and a consolation prize or all three of them games. If you'd like to change the terms and do something else, please make sure there is at least one game and a wild card. This way we can play awhile longer.

I'll let this run until Thursday, 6p.m., Pacific Time, December 6th.

When it's over and a winner is announced, I'll also reveal what the other two games are. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it!

OK- Our contestants are:
#1-FezAZ
#2-ced1106
#3-mbuckingham
#4-Damanthia
#5-Angry Duck
#6-anglotiger
#7-ilta
#8-davido
#9-KSensei
#10-noddingoff
#11-subhan
#12-coasterb (The lone contestant for Door #3; worthy of much praise!!)
#13-edosan
#14-BoardBored
#15-Dujo
#16-teachersears

And our Magic Number is: 11

Number courtesy of:
http://www.mathgoodies.com/calculators/random_no_custom.html

Congrats to subhan!

ORIGINAL CHAIN

OK, since I was the winner of the last chain, it's my turn to try to out-do the fabulous Glamorous Mucus . Tough challenge; you be the judge on how I do.

The winner may pick TWO of the following games.
(and yes, WAYFINDER is one of the choices . . .)

Note: The Warhammer entry is for two sealed starters from the Coronis Campaign set.

That's 13 wonderful games from which to choose. One more than Mr. Mucus!

Entries and tips will be accepted THROUGH Thursday, December 4th. The drawing will occur after midnight Thursday night. I will be asking an impartial moderator to do the random drawing for me, since some entries may pay out more than others. That way, no one can suspect me of rigging the results. GeekMail me if you want to volunteer to do the drawing - but it needs to be someone who's not going to enter the lottery.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND MORE!!

WINNER!! baub64 is our winner.

Grognard Chain

For the next entry in the Gorgnard Chain, I'm going to put up an unplayed copy of Afrika Korps. I've come to the realization that I'm simply never going to get it played, so it should move on to someone who will enjoy it.

It's unpunched, but it did not come shrink wrapped, so it's open. Due to a slight shipping mishap, there is some wrinkling along one side, and a bit of dishing on the box top, so I'd rate the box in fairly good condition, but the innards are brand new and in excellent condition.

I'll leave this open until next Monday (12/8) at 10pm CST. I'll plan o draw a winner either late that night or early the next day.

Card Game Only Thread

Hi All!

My thanks to Katy for the Ultimate Werewolf! And my apologies to everyone for my late response! It had to do with vacation last week, no internet connection, and piled up work when I got back!

As you see my offer is Settlers of Catan the card game, but I am adding in:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2915

Both of which will be bought new and shipped to the winner!

I'll let this go until Sunday night at which time I will use some random method to choose among the entrants! Good Luck to all!

Ok, the time has come to make a choice! Putting the list into Excel (in the order submitted) and using the random number generator in Excel, #11 came to the top! So congrats to Rabid Wookie (Clint)!! And thanks to all for playing!!

Grognard Chain

Since apparently nobody was interested in Afrika Korps, and since I've got nothing else that qualifies as a wargame that I'm ready to trade away, I'm going to be purchasing something for the next winner.

So for the next entry in the Gorgnard Chain, I'm going to put up ASL Starter Kit #1. It will be ordered from an online retailer and shipped directly to the winner.

I'll leave this open until next Wednesday (12/10) at 10pm CST. I'll plan to draw a winner either late that night or early the next day.

See entry 109 for the Consolation Chain list of who is not eligible: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/24780/item/751644#item

Game is opened and played twice. I hate the game and hope someone would like to have it. If not, I'll give You ravens another one
Game originates from Estonia (one of the rare games that has been designed here) so it's kinda national or something

Also as I think it's a waste of room in my shelf, I'll add (maybe) some weight to it:
Backstage pass (Expansion for Battle of the Bands: The Rock & Roll card game!)

or
A Pretty Corpse (Expansion for Lets Kill)

or
Bohnaparte (May only played with Bohnanza [as written on the box])

All addional games are brand new, unopened and as You may guess - not played...

I think Tuesday would be perfect to choose who'll get the pleasure meeple

OK. Two Canadian Geeks are competing with each other. I hope You weren't friends, 'cause only one is going to win

Let's use d6:
1-3 Chris
4-6 Tuuli

And my little dice gave me "3" - Congratulations Chris.
No hard feelings Tuuli, better luck next time

So the next chain of command goes to Chris

Mystery Box Chain

Here is the newest Mystery Box offering.

Remember, this is for residents of the U.S. only. Why? Because everyone in this chain is going to get a FLAT RATE PRIORITY MAIL BOX stuffed full of games, gaming accessories, and/or other stuff.

Rules:

1. The giver (me) must put more than one game into the box.

2. The giver (me) is also required to give one hint concerning one game in the box.

3. GM me with your guess as to what game I am hinting at. If you are correct, you will receive one extra entry in the drawing.

4. If you win, you are expected to post the contents of your box in the following geeklist: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/34124

THE HINT!: The Duck and his gunners should have had the sprite before heading downtown.

I will randomly choose a winner on the evening of Sunday, December 14. If you win, your box will contain some non-game yet geeky goodies as well as at least two games.

The game is not listed in my collection, so don't bother looking.

THE STORY SO FAR:
01 - Angry Duck
02 - edosan
03 - flakybiscuit
04 - Timotheous
05 - ced1106
06 - figarojones
07 - artfuldodge2
08 - jadzia_dax
09 - schlappy

Well, my reputation must precede me -- participation seems to be down a bit this time around. In any case, I've rolled a 9-sided die on the ACTS die roller, and the result is:

01 - Angry Duck. I shall email him now. Neither guesser figured out the clue; I'll wait and see if Gordon can figure it out when he gets the box.

CHEAP CHAIN ITEM!

Life is much more interesting with choices, is it not? Well, for this Cheap Chain offering you can choose one of the games from Part A and one game from Part B and have them both should you win.

PART A

Offered in Part A - Apples to Apples Jr., Buyword, Penguin, or Word Thief

A2A Jr. rules are printed from BGG, the Word Thief rules are partially highlighted.

PART B

Offered in Part B - Castle Keep, Mille Bornes, Mummy Rummy, Turbo, or Harry Potter TCG Starter Set

Out of curiousity, if you choose to enter, tell us what colour you prefer to play with? I prefer YELLOW.

Edit: I guess I should put up a Closing Date. Hmm, how about Sunday December 14th? And, I'll try to come up with an inventive choosing method, but may rely on random.org.

Winner Announced!

I used www.random.org to determine the winner rolling a single die and throwing out any sixes. The first to have their number rolled 3 times would be the winner.

1. blott
2. Damanthia
3. ilta
4. Dellarana
5. unixrevolution

So, rolling the die gave me - 1, 2, 6, 1, 4, 3, 3, 6, 5, 1

Blott is the winner and a GM is being sent for mailing address and game selection confirmation.

Congratulations!

CARD GAME CHAIN

Wow! I finally won a game after participating in the Chain of Generosity since October 2007! Thanks for for the Catan game Jeff!

RULES:
1. As stated before, the concept here is to stick with card games, especially those that can fit into a nice, small box or padded envelope (so shipping should be cheap).
2. If you're interested in winning this thread, post the name of a standard playing card (e.g. six of clubs) in the body of your post. Since this is a card game chain, I'll choose the winner by drawing a random card from a standard deck. If the card you listed matches the one I pulled, you win!
3. The winner picks 3 games from the list below!
4. If more than 1 person chooses the same playing card and that card is drawn, I'll randomly select which of those persons wins.
5. I'll end this at 9pm on Monday Dec. 15th.

Here are the games...

SET (new), Draco & Co (used - excellent condition), Katzenjammer Blues (used - worn box), Slide 5 (new), Labyrinth: The Card Game (new), James Ernest's Totally Renamed Spy Game (new), Knaves of Charlemagne (new), Relationship Tightrope (new), and Maya Madness (used)

UPDATE!!!

OK, work jumped up and bit me this week, so I'm choosing the winner later than I originally indicated I would. The folks that are eligible and their card choice are as follows:

1.Daddys_Home -- (I'm designating him Queen of Hearts)
2.ilta -- Jack of Spades
3.SurfinDecoy -- 4 of Hearts
4.Angry Duck -- 10 of Spades
5.r0xjo0 -- 7 of Diamonds
6.Teriyaki Donuts -- 8 of Diamonds
7.mbuckingham -- 2 of Clubs
8.Comfect -- King of Diamonds
9.hugz313 -- King of Hearts
10.Eklecman -- 8 of clubs
11.gmcash -- 7 of Spades (I let Gary slide in even though he registered after the original deadline)

And the cards drawn via Random.org are...
1. 8 of Hearts -- no winner
2. Jack of Spades -- WINNER!!!

Timestamp: 2008-12-18 15:42:07 UTC

Congrats to ilta for winning!!!
