Discussion Thread is Here!

The original Chain of Generosity is here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/23326/ This list is a continuation.

The Chain has been, and continues to be, an enormous success. Thank you to all the people who've kept it going for over two years!

Boardgamegeek is a wonderful place. The friendly, helpful, generous users here make this one of the best online communities. I want to contribute to that spirit, so I have created the BGG Chain of Generosity.

Here's how the BGG Chain of Generosity (The Chain) works:

Step 1: I will seed the list with a giveaway game. Anyone who wants that game can leave a comment to that effect. After 2 days (on Friday) I will randomly choose (using the random integer generator at random.org) a recipient for the game, and geekmail them to set up shipping to their house.

Step 2: The recipient of the game will then choose a game from their collection (probably from their trade list) and post it as an item here for more people (or maybe the same people) to comment on and enter. After about 2 days (this can vary) they will do a drawing, and a that person will win the game.

Step 3: The new recipient repeats step 2.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

RULES:

1. You must comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the drawing to recieve it in order to be eligible to win.

2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away in this fashion. If you don't like that idea, don't play.

3. In the unlikely event that no offers are made on your game by 48 hours after posting, try a different game in its place.

4. If you wish to start a second (or third, or fourth) chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description. For those later in the chain, identify which chain your game belongs to.

5. Sender pays shipping, unless he indicates in his entry that the recipient will and under what grounds (International shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where recipient pays shipping agree to do so.

Pretty simple rules, eh?

Other Considerations:

The game you post should be one that most of the BGG community might want to have. Ideally, one on your trade list. The dual-purpose of this list is to spread goodwill and give unliked games a good home.

You can win multiple times. Just keep in mind each time you win a game you'll be giving another one away.

CONSOLATION CHAIN!!!

...where "losers" like me are KING! Why? Because the one rule of THE CONSOLATION CHAIN is this: you can not participate if you have won more than one game offered in this geeklist.

See entry 109 for the Consolation Chain list of who is not eligible: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/24780/item/751644#item

OK, So I have available a copy of Dirge: Carnage in Crimson up for grabs. It has been opened and played a couple of times, but since I am horrible at these types of games, I am willing to pass it on to someone else. I will pay for shipping to anyone wins within Canada or the USA and pay half of any shipping costs to the rest of the world. I will randomly pick a winner out of all entries received by 11:59PM, PST on Sunday, December 15th.

Good luck to all!!

Thanks to all who entered and the winner of a random d20 roll is Gordon Yu!! The buck is now passed to you.

ORIGINAL CHAIN ITEM

Well, I don't have a huge collection of extra games, but I did have the foresight to pick up a couple of extra copies of some of the hottest games (at least judging by the Secret Santa geeklist) in my last order from Thoughthammer, so hopefully this offer will entice, entertain & excite y'all.

I'm offering up your choice of one of the season's hottest offerings, still in shrink, and hopefully delivered in time for Christmas. As you can probably tell the first option is PANDEMIC

The second option is Wasabi!, which is also getting rave reviews + lots of good talk here on the 'Geek. Hope you can make a good sushi, cuz otherwise gulp

The third option is Dominion - enough said . . . cool

I would also propose the following - if you don't have any of these games, and you would like to be surprised, if you are the winner I will randomly roll for which game you will receive, gift-wrap it + ship it to you for insertion under your Christmas tree. If you have one of the games, I'll roll off for the other two, etc. There will also be some Vermont goodies included in the package, but that will have to be a surprise devil

I'm going to make this a quick one, so I have time for the turn-around on shipping, etc. so I will run it until 6 pm EST or thereabouts on Tuesday, December 16 and hopefully I can get it on the UPS truck by Wednesday for a Christmas delivery.

Happy seasonal celebratory event of your choosing !! meeple

WINNER !!

OK, so I tallied up the entries and there were 84 unique entries (and there's no way I'm typing out 84 names on this list wow , so just go down the geeklist like I did ) and I ran the number through Random.org and the result was:

Cheap Chain

The question for me always comes in how "cheap" are we really talking in this "cheap chain". So here's what I'll do. I'm offering a copy of Saboteur, it is in excellent condition, almost unplayed and I will throw in a copy of Escalation! in the same condition:

If I don't have at least 6 entries in 48 hours, I will assume my offer is too cheap and will add to the offer. However, if I do get at least 6 I will draw names on Wednesday morning, and will hopefully ship it out no later than Thursday. You probably will have them in your hands in time to play them on Christmas day.

And, just for fun, with your entry name at least one thing that is worse than being a Detroit Lions fan.

Alright here are the entrants:

Jeremiah_Lee = 1
teachersears = 2
jebry = 3
baub64 = 4
ilta = 5
widjayaman = 6
DaJackel = 7
Teriyaki Donuts = 8
eskmoe = 9
ceazartcharm = 10
noddingoff = 11
Brakman = 12
laiernie = 13
UndeadViking = 14
Paul65 = 15
figarojones = 16
Howitzer_120mm = 17
Dujo = 18
r0xjo0 = 19
ced1106 = 20

And Random.org pulled a random number between 1 and 20 to get... 14

Timestamp: 2008-12-17 14:06:17 UTC

So UndeadViking is the winner!!

I'll leave this up until Monday, Dec. 22nd.

Thank you everyone and have a Merry Christmas!

EDIT: I know they are not wargames but I'll also add a copy of San Juan. It has been played but is in perfect condition. I will also add Saga, unpunched and unplayed.

ORIGINAL CHAIN

Wow, I still can't believe I won that last one. Thanks again for an amazingly generous giveaway item, Bob!

I think the only way I can respond to an offering of hot new games is with a hot OOP one, so here is a slighly-loved copy of the hard-to-find Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Additionally, I will put some mystery goodness in the box, including at least one other game.

I should note that, sort of like middle-of-sixth season, Buffy is showing some wear. Also the game is missing the (non-essential eye candy) evil player card holder. So it's not for a "keep it in the wrapper" collector, but it is totally, 100% playable.

If this offering is way too lame and there isn't any interest by Friday, I will dig around and find something else. I'm hoping that the Buffy fans will like this one though.

Entries accepted until Sunday at 9pm EST, shipping will be either Monday the 22nd or (more likely) Tuesday the 23rd. US only, please, unless you're willing to chip in on shipping; this game is pretty large.

EDIT: The contest.

So, there are ten people up for contention here, and I think that maps out very well:

V - Jeff
A(1) - Bob
M - Matt
P - Lance
S - Ryan
L - Adam
A(2) - Tim
Y - Marc
E - Shawn
R - Beau

Using the handy random.org list randomizer, I get the following:

1. l
2. s
3. y
4. v
5. r
6. p
7. a2
8. a1
9. e
10. m

Timestamp: 2008-12-22 16:39:30 UTC

Which means that Adam is the winner! Congratulations, Adam! I'll send a GM now.

Cheap Chain!!

Many thanks to Blott for his picking lucky number 14.

I asked for some guidelines on this one, and I was informed that as long as the game was something I got on the cheap, it would qualify, so here we have Shear Panic.

Never been played, though I did open it. All the cute little sheep are still in their plastic wrap. I am giving this away because I won it in a contest at some point and I don't see myself playing it any time soon.

C'mon, look at these cute little buggers...

How can you say no?

I will pick a winner on this coming Sunday, the twenty-first, that is if anyone is interested.

I will let my 17 month old daughter draw the lucky winner out of a hat.

*edit* Wowzers - I had no idea this game would be this popular. I am happy that my first dip into this pool is such a success. Someone asked me to pinpoint a time for the drawing, so it will be on 12/21/08 at 6pm central time. I will send it out the following Monday.

*edit#2* OK - it took a while to write out everyone's name (well print them out anyway, and then I had to wait for my daughter to wake up from her nap, but she dug into my trusty Minnesota Twins cap and pulled out...atimrogers!!

Congrats atimrogers! I will send you a geekmail shortly! And thanks for all the interest!

CARD GAME CHAIN

And my good luck keeps rolling. Wow! Fortunately I still have a number of games left over from previous Tanga splurges, so up for this round is Inkognito. It is open and punched, but unplayed.

If this offering is way too lame and there isn't any interest by this time tomorrow, I will dig around and find something else. However, I'm hoping that those of you who missed out on the consolation giveaway of this game will enjoy the second shot here.

Entries accepted until Sunday at 9pm EST (same time as the Buffy giveaway!), shipping will be either Monday the 22nd or (more likely) Tuesday the 23rd..

When you post, I'd like a knock-knock joke, please.

EDIT: What, was it the knock knock joke that scared all of you off? Alright, rather than roll a d1 (ha!), I'll post something else... hold please while we transfer this chain posting...

Let's Make A Deal Chain!

First, I'd like to apologize for spacing out on this, and thanks to Ken for reminding me of my sacred duties

OK, so this is open to all.

Item #1
is the Ogre/GEV set. This is the one in the VCR Tape case. There is some shelf wear on the sleeve, but it is unpunched & unplayed!

Item #2: 2 games. Hint: One is an offer you can't refuse, but if you do, I'll need the other in a hurry!
EDIT: Family Business & Alibi

Item #3: A Holy Hand Grenade might be useful against the protagonists of this sad-feeling game.
EDIT: Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot

I'll let this run about a week, then will randomly select a randomization method, then apply it randomly.

EDIT: Don't forget, you need to indicate if you want #1, #2, or #3!

And 9 shall be the number, neither 8, nor 10, nor any number lower than 9, nor any number greater than 9. Yep, 9 is it. That would be coasterb with a selection of #2, Family Business + Alibi. Congrats!

CHEAP CHAIN

**EDIT: Since BGG was down, I'll leave this up until sometime Friday, Jan. 2 before I pick a winner.**

Okay, so maybe I won't show you the real life shots of people playing this game (The Madrid Gamers and Office Pow Wow photos are particularly compelling). But I offer up an in-shrink copy of this Ravensburger bluffing game as the next item on the Cheap Chain.

In any case, thanks to Undead Viking and his little Valkyrie for picking me to receive Shear Panic. I'm looking forward to herding my sheep.

If I don't get any bites, I'll swap games on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. If it runs, I'll pick a winner sometime next Sunday, Dec. 28.

Good luck!

PS: I got an unexpected PS3 as a replacement for my dead DVD player on the first night of Hanukkah. I'm not quite sure what to get for it. There are no bonuses for recommendations, but I'd love to receive some. Traditionally, I'm not much of a shooter guy (yes, I started with Pong and then graduated up to the Atari as a child), and I have children aged 4 and 10. Thanks.

I asked the ACTS die roller to toss its carefully engineered 3-sided die. The result was 3: Bill Andel. Geekmail sent.

So, clearly Inkognito: TCG wasn't enough to generate the interest of more than one person. Rather than roll a d1, I guess I'll add Quicksand to the mix. I have an extra copy of this one, too, new and sealed. So now you can double your card-gaming-pleasure, double your fun. And hopefully, double your entries?

Entries run until Sunday Dec 29 at noon. And I'd like to hear what people got for Hannukah or Christmas. I got a book!

Heads up everyone! We got a brand new Hot or Not chain...with a twist!

Hot or Not NISB Chain!!

Quick explanation. I have too many doubles of games that I will never sell or trade, so I figured the easiest way to swap them out was to start this chain.

Rules of the Hot or Not NISB chain are as follows:

1. The game offered must be unplayed and still in shrink. If the game (for some reason) came without shrink, then it must be unplayed and unpunched.

2. The game offered has 48 business hours to get at least 6 thumbs. If it does not get 6 thumbs then the person who offered the game must add something to the mix. If you are forced to add something to sweeten the pot, it does not have to be another NISB game, it can be anything - GeekGold, dice, a DVD, anything at all. This must be done every 24 business hours until the offering gets 6 thumbs.

3. If the NISB game offered should get 12 thumbs before 48 business hours have gone by, the person offering the game can close their offer and draw at that time. This is to prevent people from holding out for sweeteners and giving the offer a sense of urgency. If you wait too long, you might miss out!

4. The Chain will continue until I win another game, meaning it will be a "closed chain" of generosity. However, I have several NISB games I plan on offering, so I hope to keep this going for some time, as long as interest continues.

5. Remember, if you want to throw your name into the hat, you have to give the geeklist entry a thumbs up. Responses of "I'm in!" and the like will NOT put you in the running for the game.

As a final request, I would like to ask that if you do put a thumbs up and put yourself in the mix, please pay attention to this geeklist. I want games to be coming and going super fast at a breakneck pace. If you put your name in the hat, try and have an idea of your offering in case you do win, so you can throw it up here as soon as it is your turn.

Well thanks for taking the time to read this - now on to my offer!

Metropolys

I totally dig this game, but I ended up with two copies after I picked up a mystery box of games from Pozy a while back. Now it just takes up space on my shelf, begging to go to a good home so someone else can enjoy this wonderful combination of bidding and bluffing with secret strategies all around.

It recently made Board Games with Scott's personal top ten experiences in gaming in 2008!

Let's see some thumbs people!

*edit* This was posted 9:23pm central time on 01/01/09. 48 business hours from now will be 9:23pm central time on 01/05/09.

*edit#2* Cool! 7 thumbs! If I can get 5 more today I will pick the winner and send it off today!

*edit#3* Just one more! Who will push us over the edge!

We have 12! Closing down now!

1. teg2
2. Unixrevolution
3. laiernie
4. anglotiger
5. mbuckingham
6. Blott
7. flakybiscuit
8. subhan
9. Dellarana
10. Figarojones
11. lubomirvaic
12. pdclose

I shall write the names on paper and have my daughter Rilyn draw them from a hat...one moment...

Drumroll please! We have winner! And it is...

figarojones!!!

Congratulations! GM will be sent shortly...can't wait to see what you throw up as an offer.

Thanks for all the interest in the new Hot or Not chain!

I will be giving away Carcassonne: The Castle played twice, and

Relationship Tightrope played once, and

Slide 5 played once, and

Bazaar. This is the Discovery Toys Special edition and the box is beat to hell but I replaced most of the really beat up stuff so it should play pretty well.

Thank you to Isaiah Tanenbaum (ilta) for Buffy and a mystery game, I should be recieving that shortly.

I will hold the drawing on Thursday of next week, January 8th.

Happy New Year everyone!

The winner is Tim but maybe I'm "just kidding?!?!" laugh

Cheap Chain

In this little known member of Mike Fitzgerald's "Mystery Rummy" family, 2-6 players determine if critters such as Big Foot, the Chipacabra, Giant Squids, Nessie and the Yeti and phenomena inlcuidng The Amityville Horror,Crop Circles, Ghost Ships, the Roswell Incident and the sinking of Atlantis are Fact or Fiction.

The winner will be selected on Monday, January 12th. If you are interested, please post a comment saying so and include what you think history's biggest mystery is (serious or silly, included in the card game or not). I would ask all readers of the list to please thumb all comments, as the most thumbed contestant will receive an extra entry in the drawing.

Edit: rolled my d1 and - what a surprise - dellarana wins!

CARD GAME CHAIN

I have 4 goodies to offer. First, an unplayed reissue of Sid Sackson's Sleuth (version pictured); game has been opened but never played. Decks are still sealed!

Plus:

Complete, and in nice shape.

And finally:

both complete and in good shape.

I'll keep this open until 01-08, 6PM PST, at which time I'll draw a random number. Good luck!

EDIT: Well, it's that time.As there are 6 people wanting my games, a 6 sided die should do the trick. The entrants are:

ced 1106
UndeadViking
BoardBored
bill_andel
artfuldodge2
djjuras

Using my handy 6 sided die, the number rolled is:

3!

BoardBored is the man!
I'll email the winner; it'll be his responsibility to set up another link in the chain. Thanks for playing!

GEEK CHAIN

meepleSweet, finally won a chain! Many thanks to lubomirvaic for the Dungeoneer set, I'm sure my GF will love a dungeon crawl adventure we can take anywhere with us.

So I am putting up my copy of Race for the Galaxy, opened but never played.

On top of that, to sweeten the pot a bit I think I will give the winner their choice of:

played once, excellent condition or

opened but never played or

opened but never played.

I figure I'll give this about a week to play out so sometime on Sunday, January 11th I'll figure out some random way of selecting a winner.

Good luck!

...And CLOSED!

Just walked into my roomate's room & told him to pick a number between 1 & 34...

He picked 34.

Then I left, he's still sitting at his comp wondering what just happened.

Anyways that is the last person to have signed up which is Ronaldo who I actually refered to this chain item the other day when he was asking about RftG. Congradulations.

NISB Hot or Not Chain

*Revised*

Rules of the Hot or Not NISB chain are as follows:

1. The game offered must be unplayed and still in shrink. If the game (for some reason) came without shrink, then it must be unplayed and unpunched.

2. The game offered has 48 business hours to get at least 6 thumbs. If it does not get 6 thumbs then the person who offered the game must add something to the mix. If you are forced to add something to sweeten the pot, it does not have to be another NISB game, it can be anything - GeekGold, dice, a DVD, anything at all. 3. If the NISB game offered should get 12 thumbs before 48 business hours have gone by, the person offering the game can close their offer and draw at that time. This is to prevent people from holding out for sweeteners and giving the offer a sense of urgency. If you wait too long, you might miss out!

As for my offering:
*REVISION*

Well, not only is Pirate King NOT hot, it's, in fact, ice cold. Now, I don't know if it's because people aren't familiar with it, or they're hoping I'll throw something super sweet in the mix before they thumb, or if it's just not that desired in general (I assume it's the third, but who knows?). So, I'm going to throw in a little bit of a change up. EITHER, you can get

Pirate King The official, "thin" box release that the designer approved of. I heard great things about it, ran out and bought myself a copy, and promptly set it on my shelf to not get played.
&

I Go! It's a Colvini! Opened, but unplayed and in excellent condition

OR:

Blokus Duo NISB
&

Blokus Opened and played once. In Excellent Condition.

OR:

Heroscape Marvel: The Conflict Begins NISB
&

Heroscape Master Set: Rise of the Valkyrie First Edition. Has been opened, but is unplayed, and contains the sparkly blue water tiles.

If you thumb and win, you pick whichever of those you want. If you win, you don't have to post multiple choices, just something NISB.

Restarting the clock for the 48 hours...
...
...
...
...
NOW! 01-05-09 11:18 PM

*CLOSED*
There are now six thumbs. They are:

1. Flaster Siskin
2. UndeadViking
3. signjc
4. polkeroo
5. Rogue Jubi
6. crazysane

So, I wanted to do a little bit different of a system for finding the winner. I rolled 17 D4's, then took the prime number closest to it(37). I then multiplied by the square root of my game collection (13.82). Then, I square rooted that and rounded down (22). After that, I dealt a series of playing cards, flipped three face up, totaled them, and multiplied that number (16) by my earlier number (352). At this point, I divided by a previously decided random number (176), and came up with the number 2.*

AND THE WINNER IS...

UndeadViking. Congratulations!

*I actually just rolled a D6, but I thought that sounded more interesting.

My personal copy. The Battle of Murfreesboro, per The Gamers Civil War, Brigade series. I understand it's one of the better games in the series, but I just never got around to it. So you'll get it unpunched.

Will be taking entries until Sunday, January 11, 10:00 pm, PST. Drawing will be held shortly thereafter.

I wasn't ignoring you guys!!!

I was just hoping to get more folks signed up. Plus, I'm still waiting on the previous game that was offered to actually arrive. Since neither has happened, I'm just gonna bite the bullet and go from here.

With two whole entrants, I'm gonna flip 7 coins.

Heads = "robin"
Tails = Stephen

First one to 4 wins:

Flip 1: Heads
Flip 2: Tails
Flip 3: Heads
Flip 4: Heads
Flip 5: Tails
Flip 6: Tails
Flip 7: Tails

Congratulations, Stephen! I'll contact you. You're next!

HERE WE GO!!

HOT OR NOT NISB CHAIN!!!

Here are you standardized rules...WITH AN IMPORTANT ADDENDUM!! See BOLD print below!

1. The game offered must be unplayed and still in shrink. Alternatively you can offer a game that may be out of its shrink wrap, but still unplayed and unpunched.

I have decided to follow Mr. Figarojones' lead and offer several options for you to choose from. Ultimately, I will want to get rid of all of these in one way or another, so if you miss out and your game is not selected, than you will have another chance as soon as I win another game in this chain. If you should win this amazing offer, you will be allowed to pick from ONE of the following prizes...all of which are NISB.

The aforementioned...

For Sale

The End of the Triumvirate

Carcassonne

Shear Panic

Sorry! Sliders

Remember - you need to THUMB this entry to be considered in on the drawing...

We will start the 48 hour clock running............

NOW!

01/07/09 - 6:52pm central time.

*edit* 11 hours or 3 thumbs and we are good to go! Get your thumb in if you want a chance!

*edit#2* One more thumb! Who will be the lucky one?

*edit#3* Less than 2 hours to go! Who else is excited?

*edit#4* Sorry this is a little late, but our official drawer had to finish her cheese noodles before she could draw the winner out of the hat.

After much consternation, my daughter Rilyn drew the name...

Anglotiger!!!

Congratulations to the winner and thank you all for your interest!

PM will be sent shortly and I will edit this again with the choice of prize, so if you had your heart set on one of these options, you will know it will be offered again if it isn't taken.

*edit#5* Anglotiger has chosen The End of the Triumvirate...a very good game, so if you were looking for any of the other 4, don't worry, they will be up again soon enough.

Let's Make a deal chain.

Curtain #1 is
Guest Host - with the 25th Anniversary edition of the card game Phase 10

Curtain #2 hint - 2 Christian games: one is a CCG, the other a family game dealing with wisdom.
**This was Testament and Family Choices Proverbs Edition

Curtain #3 hint - A game with origins in Japan but not solo and a small train game.
**Stephen won "Sudoku squared" in shrink and Station Master played twice.

Please note that all curtains have 2 games.

With the exception of phase 10, which I have another copy of, none of the games are in my geek collection, so don't bother looking

I'll let this run until 11:59 Eastern on January 18th. Don't forget to say 1, 2, or 3.

Edited for clarification. 1-8-09

Heads is Stephen, Tails is Martin. Went for best 3 of 5, and Heads came up 3 times, so Stephen wins and needs to pick a curtain before I reveal the other 2.

Stephen picked Curtain #3!
