Don't get me wrong. I enjoy colonizing the new world, European imperialism, constructing medieval monuments, corporate takeovers, ancient Egypt, German politics, the Cold War, and Mediterranean civilizations just as much as the next gamer. Participating in a contest of wits with a group of adults can be very stimulating (and even enjoyable).

However, in certain situations, stuffy adult games and mature themes just won't cut it. In part, gaming is a form of escapism. I game to forget about that annoying coworker, the mortgage payment, tedious yardwork, looming deadlines, overdue credit card bills, and automobile maintenance. It is fun to discard the heavy mantle of adulthood and regress every now and then.

Think back to your childhood. Did you ever use the term suboptimal play, suffer from analysis paralysis, or debate the differences between strategy and tactics? No. Did you worry about seating order bias, prefer games with little downtime, or have a least-favorite mechanism? No.

Here on the geek, many of the most popular games are disguised as adult activities. Games are structured, processional, and analytical. As children, play was a lively, carefree activity that was largely experiential. As a kid, play was fun. Yes, play was rollicking, boisterous, jocular, carefree, uproarious fun. How often can you say that about your weekly session of Puerto Rico or Caylus?

This list is dedicated to dexterity games that have the ability to make even the most hardened, stoic adult gamers approach play with a child-like wonder and naivety. So,

Screw Colonizing the New World. I Want to Flick Something.

OK, you launch "flying kick" Batmans at a Gotham tenament, and try to knock over goons and the Joker. Can you also launch them at your children? Yes. Can you launch them at your game group? Yes. Is there another question beyond, how much? No.

"Jenga is for wusses! This rocks."

"An interesting addition to the stacking game genre. The rules are not entirely clear and seem to leave some room for house rules, which is fine. The shape of the sticks makes for a very impressive structure and locating the center of gravity of each stick becomes quite important. Once there are a lot of sticks in the structure it is quite difficult to judge what consequences your addition will have, since there are so many different sticks on which it will rest. It's fun!"

"An excellent lower-intensity building dexterity that scales well for almost any reasonable number of players."

"My god; it's full of sticks!"

"Completely asinine on every level yet near brilliant. ... I'm considering a redo of "Europe Engulfed" using the "Jochen und Rochen" system."

"If you LOVE German style board games, this is definitely not for you! However, this is a really silly, yet awesome game. This game defines 'party game' for adults IMHO. Tons of fun, easy to play, and a goofy theme make it a great game for a light evening."

Firing ball bearings to knock a target past your opponent's goal line. Requires a little bit of strategy as you get a limited supply of ammunition - until your opponent fires back.

Although it's a bit more of a brain-burner than many of the flicking games here, the palpable tension and cries of agony when one's booby does indeed get trapped makes it a raucaus and fun game.

I have the old wood version here. Mileage may vary with newer versions.

"We always got into brutal wrestling matches. Grabbing the spoon end as opposed to the handle will usually win you the spoon from someone, but will hurt too! Lots of fun. Many ways to cheat. Use old cards for sure they will fly!"

"Wow - can you believe it - only 36 people on BGG own spoons. How the heck does everyone eat soup???? Chunky style I guess...?"

"This was a favorite game to play during lunch in grade school. 20+ kids around the table playing with 2 decks of cards. When someone grabbed a spoon it was crazy. Good times."

I dont' want to go adding all the 'balancing' games, since they're not quite dexterity, and many are more cerebral than this list calls for (Feuro, Saturn, etc.), but this one is definitely in the 'mindless fun' category.

Name another game that rewards the separating of the opponents head from the rest of their torso along with the telltale sound of victory (in the original version of course).
