Well, I must conclude that 1960: The Making of the President is quickly becoming one of my favorite games. I find that its design is a bit "cleaner" or more "streamlined" then Twilight Struggle.

I do like playing Twilight Struggle though. It too is an interesting game. But I can see future games in the same genre as these two great games.

So I was thinking... what should the next game be?

What are your thoughts or ideas?

I personally think that the feud between the Red Sox and the Yankees could make for an interesting game idea in this genre.

How about one based on McCarthyism? Unlike the first two of the series, it could play 2 or more players. McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee are represented by the game (or perhaps a player with assymetric goals). Players represent academics, Hollywood stars, etc. questioned by the committee. Will you turn in your peers, thus losing "integrity points", or stand up for your rights and face the consequences?

Middle East, 1948-1989. Take Twilight Struggle and focus it on this single region, beginning with the birth of Israel as a modern state and concluding with the end of the Cold War. Super-powers face off while governments rise and fall and World War Three is just an intervention away. Oil, politics, assassination, ideology -- it's all there.

The race for colonies in Africa in the late 19th to early 20th centuries seems like a natural for the system. The European powers would be out to maximize markets and access to resources, and in the case of the Brits keep all comers out of the Upper Nile, without setting off a European war or having to act as savagely as the Belgians in the Congo.

You could do this for South Asia/SE Asia 100-150 years earlier, as well.

[Edited to use a more appropriate game as a reference....]

Similar, I suppose, to the Middle East suggestion above, in that it would require a ton of specific research.

Still, it would be great to use CDG mechanics as well as the notion of influence (combat units in an area might, for example, give you control but cost you influence / influence in Cambodia or amongst the Hmong might give you bonuses to combat in nearby sectors / Special Forces could be used for either combat support or influence missions / and what about those Peace Corps? / the cards in this thing could be great. Grim, in some cases, Mi Lai, anyone?, but great).

And, definitely of proven interest to the wargamer crowd.
