Most of the time I play games with my family and things are very tame, but when I play games with friends or at a convention, all bets are off. Some games can't hit the table without jokes being made, and many of the ones I hear are the result of some component or the premise of some component. This list is an attempt to generate some laughs and to create a list of components that elicit jokes naturally.

The game that gave me the idea for this list. The designers / play testers could not have possibly spent the time necessary to make this excellent game without a few jokes based on the "King" here. Bonus points because the game was called "El Grande" and because it actually says in the rules that the King's region is taboo.

I never thought anything of it... but thanks to gameink.net's t-shirt design I'll never look at this game the same again

The print on the shirt reads "They call me... El Grande"

This one is far more subtle than El Grande. The issue is in the premise, and I have never made it through a game without some joke about the royal favors. I mean seriously, you perform various functions to make the king happy so he gives you "favors". Then you trade your favors for various things you need as a lonely builder: money, buildings, some of the king's wood, or if you are really low on the totem pole, a meal (food).

Another great source of laughs is the idea of dropping by your rival's place of business and "borrowing" his production for the day.

While I understand that the investigators for Arkham Horror are all inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, there is nothing quite like the idea of Paris Hilton with a couple of .45 ACPs conducting an investigation to turn up jokes. On top of that, her special ability is an infinite supply of daddy's money. Paris here isn't the only one, just the best example.

A couple of my friends and I were playing this a few days ago. It was Brandon's first time playing and when he noticed that Cameron (who was playing Jenny) was taking a dollar every upkeep he got suspicious.

"Why the hell are you taking money from the bank?"

I was going to answer about the special ability of the character when Cameron said in a high squeaky voice, "Because Daddy loves me best! Duh!"

There's nothing like ladies night getting pulled from the random event deck while one player has 4 or 5 lounges to change the money balance of the game. Seriously though, if your casino can't make any money and you have no places to eat, you can always stock up on the lounges and hope for a miracle.

We call this game the dildo game for obvious reasons. We all know what the designer was thinking, but the question remains, why?

It not so much the mothership that's the problem, but all the boosters and small rockets.

My wife couldn't stop laughing when she saw us playing it.
