This year was my first Atlanta Games Fest and it was exactly what I needed. A weekend to play games almost non-stop with a ton of fun folks from around the Southeast. Thanks to everyone patient enough to sit and teach new games and gracious enough to loan their game shelves out to a bunch of near-strangers. I can't wait until the weekend this summer!

Brian says: Bright and early on Friday morning I arrived and got to play my first game with Ward and a few of the other die hards in the group. Since my goal for the weekend was to play as many new-to-me games as possible, I was off to a great start. Aquadukt is fun and thankfully short. I liked the game, but probably would have blown a gasket if this had turned out to be more than just a 30-minute game. It's just one of those that's a perfect length.

Brian says: Second game of the weekend and another new-to-me. My first thought was "hey, I'm playing Red Line Airlines from Indiana Jones!" I wasn't far off. Neat mechanic using little arrows to show airline paths and I really dug the scoring. You score anytime any player moves over a site that you have. Makes the game much more friendly. It's definitely not a work together kind of game, but it could have some benefits from collusion.

Brian says: My good friend "Eh, Steve" finally got there and we whipped out a fun and light game for after lunch. Didn't need too much thought process here, just some good-natured robbing of historical treasures from other snooty rich folks. The only thing I don't like about this game is the title. Really? We can't think of anything better?

Brian says: We had a few lighter gamers hanging around so next up was Shark. It's been a number of years since I played this game and it's still fluffy fun in the world of stock trading.

Brian says: I've been dying to play this game, but this was my first chance to do so. Wow. Flat out, wow. Fun concept, cool mechanics and a great design. Hats off to Days of Wonder for this one. Unfortunately for me, this was my last game of day one since I had to bail for a rehearsal. On to Zach's list!

Brian says: First game of Saturday morning and we're already into a home-brewed translation copy of a fantastic game. Three of the six people playing said "I'm going to buy this" at some point or another during the game. The later the game goes, the faster you need to get things done in order to keep your people alive, all while trying to not be left without some of the livestock or veggies, since that deducts victory points. Tons of fun and I can't wait until the English version debuts.

Brian says: Yet another in a long line of hugely popular games that I've never played. Stven sat down and taught a few of us n00bs and did an amazing job of it. Made the game easy to pick up and fun to play. This one is going on my Buy list.

Brian says: We had a pair of folks with us who had never finished a game of Power Grid before. We chose the Benelux map and found it to be a perfect introduction for them. On top of that, we used the new deck of power plant cards which didn't hurt the new players any, but gave a bit of a new twist to us regulars. Always a fun game to play.

Brian says: One of the girls playing with us had contemplated buying Phoenicia, but wanted to try it first. Wow. What a terrible rule book for a fantastic game. Seriously. Between the five of us, we couldn't make heads or tails of some of the rules until it was explained to us by someone who had played it already. Once we got rolling however, the game is surprisingly elegant. Please, though...can't we get an editor on this rulebook??
