For any of you who listen to boardgame podcasts you might have heard of a little podcast being distributed out of Indianapolis by the name of The Spiel. Stephen Conway and Dave Coleson are real boardgame lovers and it's a real treat to hear them talk about games with so much passion.

Well, in their 47th episode they tried something completely crazy. They decided to bring in some friends (David Schuth, Jason Ober, & Mark Weaver) and play boardgames non-stop for 24 hours. Insane? Perhaps. Entertaining? Absolutely! So here is a complete list of the games played, how long the game took, and who won. If you haven't checked out this podcast this episode might be a real treat for you to get aquainted with these gamers.

Serious rules flub, I know that for sure. Dave Coleson explained the rules and apparently they messed something up for half the game. Plus there is always the slow decline of their brains as they were trying to learn the rules for each new game as it hit the table.

So that's all! 20 games in just over 24 hours.

I should point out that every one of these was a learning game for at least 1 person at the table, usually more than 1 person. This greatly affected the playtime. Also they stopped to record a short segment for the podcast which I just added into the playtime each time.

It is a lot of fun to listen to. Also, they did a brief overview of each of the games too, so as you listen you can also find out more about these games. So if you're interested check it out!

Man, I've been wanting to do a 24-hour gaming session since 1985, but still no takers. My second big gaming wish is to play multiple games Call of Cthulhu & Arkahm Horror over a weekend in an isolated cabin in the woods.

I'll be sure and listen to the podcast. Thanks for the post Ben!

I really liked The Spiel podcast, however this episode was not my cup of tea, so if anyone cares to download it and find you dont like it, try with a more "normal" robot laugh episode of the podcast.

Maybe is plain envy.. you can never know

I'm sad to say that I have not played any of those games, but several look intreging.

I played one homeruled game of TI3 that lasted a little under 12 hours (over 2 days). I'm sure I would want to do it all at once though.

Great job, Ben. Thanks for assembling the list! We really had no idea whether we could pull the marathon off but everyone had such a great time, we'll probably do another one next year (playing, not necessarily recording). At the rate we buy games, we'll have to just to keep the list under 200. Yikes!

I know the marathon show strays pretty far from our normal format, but as a one-time deal just to be crazy and say we tried, we managed to give surprisingly coherent session reports despite the lateness of the hour (and the emptying of certain bottles). As Esteban said, though, don't take the marathon episode as a typical example of The Spiel.

I know we're itching to get several of the games from the marathon back to the table. Ruse & Bruise, Four Dragons, Notre Dame, Cash & Guns and El Capitan were among my favorites.

Spiel on!

Stephen

I can imagine few things that would be quite as difficult as only playing one game of Ca$h 'n' Gun$ your first time. We played it 3 times straight when it first hit the table, and still we usually play it twice.

I'm sure you'll have no problem encouraging the ladies to try this one again either.
