The Adult Male Slumber Party is a gathering of friends every 3 months that spends an entire weekend gaming and just hanging out. Most of us went to college at either the University of Iowa or Iowa State. We have spread out around the midwest after graduating. The AMSP gives us all a great reason to get back together and catch up while playing some great games. The group meets in either New London or Waterloo, Iowa. However, friends come from as far as Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota.

This event was hosted in Waterloo by Adam and his wife Sara. It was one of the rare weekends this winter in Iowa when the weather was actually fairly decent. This AMSP will be remembered due to several of the gamers battling various forms of illness and Aaron getting in a small fender bender during the AMSP.

We had 6 geeks attend including: Adam (D_Nose), Aaron, Chadwick, Matt aka Chili Bean, Paul and myself.

We ended up getting a late start on Friday night. We played a big 6P game of Warrior Knights. This was the first time that any of us had played WK and the game ended up taking forever. The general consensus was that it was a decent game but just took way too long. I ended up the winner.

Saturday morning I ended up running Aaron across town to have his car serviced. However, during that trip he slid thru a stop sign due to icy rodes and got into a small fender bender. Luckily all involved were ok but it put a bit of a damper on the day for sure.

During our extended absence the rest of the guys played a couple of games of Rumis. Matt won the first game and the 2nd game was tie between Matt and Adam.

On Sunday morning Rumis was played again. Adam, Paul and myself were early risers and snuck in a game. Adam put a hurt on us big time.

Matt, Paul and Chad also played a game of Citadels Saturday morning while Aaron and I were keeping company with a friendly Waterloo police officer. Chad ended up winning this game. The only thing I know about this game was that Chad was fairly pleased that he got a tremendously crappy first hand of cards and immediatley took the Magician and traded the entire hand off to Matt.

We had broken tradition and not started the AMSP with some games of Bang! We all felt rather guilty and made up for that on Saturday afternoon.

Game #1: Aaron and Chad were the winners as the Sheriff and Deputy. Aaron continues his unreal winning percentage in Bang!

Game #2: Adam and Aaron win again as the Sheriff and Deputy.

Game #3: We wrapped up the AMSP with this final game on Sunday morning. Paul had an amazing win as the Renegade. He had a volcanic and played 4 bang cards in a row on the sheriff for the win.

While the game of Citadels was in progress, Adam, Aaron and myself played a game of Arkadia. Adam ended up with the win 113-106-100. He had one amazing scoring round of 60 that really propelled him into the lead.

Adam and Aaron were both fighting a cold and took a short nap later Saturday afternoon/early evening. So, the remaining four of us played a game of AOE III. I ended up winning with a strong economic strategy mixed with a few discoveries. However, I did have an unfair advantage being the only person to have played the game before. Everyone enjoyed the game and is eager to play again.

Do you find experience is that important in this game?

I really enjoy this gam and I've been wondering that. I normally prefer games that anyone has a chance at even if they haven't played it before. I guess that's why I'm not a huge Chess fan. Anyway, I've been pondering if this game has a 'large' bias to experienced players.

I'd say overall that experience isn't a huge factor in this game. It was just for maybe the first 2-3 turns when everyone else was getting their "lightbulb" moments of understanding the game. However, that gave me 2-3 turns to get off to a head start. I have no doubt now that with even just 1 game under their belt my friends will be stout opponents.

After supper on Saturday night we played a big 6P game of Blood Feud. Again, this was a new game to all of us so we spent a bit quickly going over the rules. It was interesting how quickly the game forced players into conflict but I suppose that it shouldn't have been suprising. Aaron and myself formed an early alliance between Queens and Brooklyn(?) that stayed strong for the entire game and made the difference in the end. Aaron ended up with a finacial victory. The consensus of this game was that it was enjoyable but there was way, way too much downtime between turns. I'm not sure if this is always the case with this game or was just because none of us had played before. Most agreed they would like to play it again but perhaps with only 4 players.

I thought the name "Adult Male Slumber Party" was a little disturbing, so I had to see what it was. Your description explained what it was though.

My thoughts about the title being disturbing were confirmed when my wife walked by and saw the title "Adult Male Slumber Party" and asked me what I was looking at! So then I had to explain it to her.
