Highly Anticipated Games for 2008

These are the games coming out in 2008 I'm most anxiously awaiting to become available.
Why am I "jones'n" for these games? It may be the prototype photos in the database, the manufacturers description from their website or the fact that a game is finally getting a makeover/reprint after so long out of print.
What else should I be keeping on my radar? Do you have a favorite or two that you will buy the instant it becomes available? Is there some reason you will or won't buy a game on this list?
Add the games on YOUR radar and share why you want it so bad.

This is the inspiration for this list. I came across this company again and went to their website to watch some of the video tutorials on "making" their spaceships for the upcoming game Wormhole. Think Pirates of the Spanish Main in space with ships you cut out and put together.
Oh, one more thing... there looks to be an actual GAME here too!

This game makes me drool.
Just LOOK at all those counters and pieces and components! The theme is something that has yet to be done and the little buzz I've heard about this gives me hope that this will be as good of a game as it looks.

A few lucky BBG'ers played this at BBG.con and the hype started in earnest at that time. The thing is, the hype looks well deserved for this one. I've yet to see anything negative about it and those that are praising it's virtues are far from what I would consider "fanboys".
I'm on a pre-order list already.

I have the original Avalon Hill version and found it to be very fun and entertaining with 2 or 3 people. More than that and the potential to drag on increases dramatically. This version is supposed to streamline play and simplify many of the more tedious aspects of the original version.
Due out very soon and I hope to pick one up at KublaCon.

Very little word on this one yet but the description in the database is enough to make me want one:
Reins of Power is a huge board game of contemporary or near-future geopolitics, superpower diplomacy, and global conflict. Each player takes on the role of the head-of-state of a world power, from the US to the European Union, and attempts to steer this power to global supremacy. Each player also takes on the role of another player?s domestic political opposition and attempts to thwart that player?s every move. Execute regime change in Third World countries, combat terrorism, and project your power with carrier battle-groups. Expect lots of plastic figures, including carriers, submarines, tanks, and mushroom clouds, lots of cards, dice, markers, and other great components.
It sounds like a totally inproved and expanded version of Supremacy. I'm in.

This could be awesome - of course it could suck like that yellow vacuum on those infomercials too, but I'm hoping for the former not the latter.
"Age of Conan is going to be a massive board game where two or more players will lead the nations of the ?Hyborian Age?, the fantasy world created by Robert E. Howard, employing weapons, wealth or magic to achieve hegemony over the others. Developed by the same design team of the best-seller War of the Ring (Francesco Nepitello, Marco Maggi and Roberto Di Meglio), Age of Conan is planned to be released in late 2007 and will feature hundreds of beautiful plastic miniatures, a large full colour map of Hyboria, and top-level components."

Hmmm... Chariot racing is always good. This sounds like it will have militaristic, economic, political and entertainment aspects to the game. From the BGG description this should be out already. Anyone heard otherwise?

Fantasy Flight's version is due this summer/fall. I'm really anticipating this one as Cosmic Encounter is one of my favorite games of all time. I loved Mayfair's version with it's organized rules (despite it's flaws) and tons of options that I could add or ignore as desired. Fantasy Flight is also known for outstanding components and artwork and my hope is that they deliver thei own "Mayfair Version" of the game, but with completely awesome components.
My fear is that they release their version of the "Hasbro Abomination" and it sucks as bad as that one did.

I'm a big fan of "Last Night on Earth" and am awaiting, with much anticipation, the release of this expansion. In fact, I've already pre-ordered it and may see within the next several weeks.

Not much known about this, but I have yet to play a bad Alea game, and I love the "occult lite" theme (see also: Die Siebe Weisen, Alchemist).

Ra: The Dice Game
I've been eagerly awaiting a database entry since I first read about this in a Valerie Putman column many moons ago. Ra isn't one of my favorite games but I think a dice-based spinoff has a lot of potential, and I'm guessing that the custom dice (c'mon, it's gotta have custom dice with pyramids and suns and stuff on them) will look extremely cool.

Liberte is one of my favorite games. After getting seeing Mike Doyle's work on other games I am absolutely drooling over the Valley Games reprint. Easily my most desired game.

I'm not sure whether this counts since it was released just this week, but I've been doing the Homer Simpson dance of impatience ever since it was announced last fall. Descent with shorter scenarios, outdoor adventures, avatars for the overlord, and a campaign mode for the heroes? Any one of those would have had me drooling, and this expansion is supposed to contain all that and more!
My order has to travel from one edge of the country to the other, since it's coming from Boards and Bits, so I won't see this until the end of next week at the absolute earliest. Ooohhh!

Race for the Galaxy is addictive, as the game play stats attest: 15,000+ plays since it was released at Essen 2007. It's a safe bet that most of the addicts are eagerly anticipating this expansion, which will add an official solitaire version and add a fifth player. Woo hoo!

Trying to think of something witty to put here. Any ideas?

I stumbled across this game in a forgotten geeklist. Oh how I hope it gets released. It looks so good and has a unique (sort of) theme. This game seems quite 'underbuzzed' but that's probably due to the lack of news from the publisher.
It's a great idea for a minis game.

My most anticipated game by far....
Heavy on the negotiation and seemingly using tile-laying mechanisms unlike any game I have ever played before.

I'm surprised this isn't already on the list.
The Valley Games remake of the Avalon Hill game had quite a lot of hype but the real interest may be in whether or not Valley Games can actually deliver a complete game in the manner their customers want and as promised by Valley Games.

A solitaire game from Dan Verssen, who has designed many well known games, particularly solitaire titles, for other game companies (Hornet Leader, Modern Naval Battles, the 'Lightning' series, Naval Battles, and Road Kill, among others). This game will be published by his own company which appeared to previously be a DTP game company. A follow-up in the Field Commander series has just been announced: Alexander the Great.
