These are the games coming out in 2008 I'm most anxiously awaiting to become available.

Why am I "jones'n" for these games? It may be the prototype photos in the database, the manufacturers description from their website or the fact that a game is finally getting a makeover/reprint after so long out of print.

What else should I be keeping on my radar?
Do you have a favorite or two that you will buy the instant it becomes available?
Is there some reason you will or won't buy a game on this list?

Add the games on YOUR radar and share why you want it so bad.

The name of the game inspires images of playing a character from Dune. The roles remind me of San Juan. The combat is Nexus Ops. The game looks like a simple, fun, smart version of Race FT Galaxy - but on a board, and with frickin' laser combat!

Purple board. Wooden cubes. This could be the next big Euro-Ameritrash meld.

My apologies for the wrong Game ID and Image. Fantasy Flight Games has announced the creation of Battlestar Galactica: The Boardgame based on the current TV series featured on Sci-Fi channel here in the USA. Release date is set for fall of 2008, but honestly I imagine it will be more like 2009. I'm still excited as I love the series and the production values of FFG's is always very appealing. I just hope game play and mechanics are really good. I'll buy it either way! laugh

I know there's been a glut of Pacific Theater games lately but this one reads like it could be the best of the bunch. Has a bit more detail than most of the current crop of games and has some novel ideas. For example, Japanese pilots are modeled separately from aircraft, allowing players to try to preserve their best pilots for use in the later Japanese aircraft. It has been in active development for years but it's supposed to be available this year.

Say what you will about James Ernest, he comes up with some very clever ideas, and this sounds like another one...

Veritas is a Euro-style board game about the preservation of truth in Dark Ages France. Each player represents some "truth," trying to be preserved for posterity by diligent book-copying monks. Players place and copy book tokens in monasteries, and then pick up stacks of books and spread them around France. Each turn, a monastery will burn down, and the books in it may be destroyed. After the monasteries have burned down, players can move through them, so travel on the board gets faster as the game progresses. When scoring chips are drawn, each player whose ideology dominates a region scores points. The first player to score 100 points wins, becoming the dominant truth as the Dark Ages end.

I saw the prototype for this and a demo at Toy Fair in New York last month, and it looks like it will be fun. You move your two pawns around the track on the outer edge of the board, but the track keeps opening up with trap doors and closing off with dead ends, and you can get teleported back to another corner of the board occasionally.
