Well, here it is, my humble attempt to pick up where Brian left off. Hopefully this list will continue to be a useful forum for us fans of GMT to share information about their upcoming games. As always, developer and designer input is welcomed and appreciated.

There are four new titles on the P500 and many games had really impressive increases in pre-orders.

If you want to learn more about GMT and it's P500 list, check out their P500 webpage: http://www.gmtgames.com/s-2-p500.aspx

Also, I believe Brian hosts a GMT Games discussion group here:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/gmtgames/

By the way, I'd be remiss if I didn't thank not only Brian, but also Jeff (jyeakle) for his efforts on the MMP and Columbia lists. Jeff has developed a great format, some of which I stole for this list. I hope to capture, as best I can, the best of both Brian's and Jeff's lists.

As Jeff noted in a Geekmail, though, in the end the quality of the list all comes down to the comments that everyone else posts on it.

And for that I thank you all!

One of GMT's upcoming block titles. The fog of war will be appreciated in a naval game. Orders are still steadily climbing. GMT's communication in late February indicated this was a late 2008 release.

A huge jump for this game. This looks to be a fairly unique new entry into the CDG genre...it utilized a hex-based map. The only other CDG with hexes that I can think of is Mark herman's Empire of the Sun (the first CDG with hexes).

Unit can move normally, but require OPS points from card play to engage in combat. Ted Raciers other WWII CDG: WWII Barbarossa to Berlin is a great game, this looks promising as well.

Components:

1 22" by 34" hex map
368 die-cut counters
110 Cards
Player-aid cards

I'm an Alexander nut; my oldest son is named Alexander and my BGG name was one of Alexander's generals and boyhood friends (though later Alexander ran Cleitus through with a spear when he refused to prostrate himself before the newly minted god-king). Suffice it to say, this one is already preordered : )

Also, Sword of Rome is sold out and it seems it may be a while before that other four player CDG gets a reprint.

I had a chance to play a couple of sessions of this with one of the game's playtesters. It played fast, with large swings in momentum. The rules were simple and straightforward, about the same complexity as A Victory Lost.

It used cards in a novel way. Each turn you get a certain number of points to repair damaged units or draw cards (you can mix and match). The game is not 'driven' by the cards, but rather they can be played as events whenever it makes sense, as they modify combat, allow double moves, simulate airstrikes against supply lines, etc. The units have huge movement allowances, but are restricted by supply considerations.

I hope this one gets some more publicity because I can't wait to get a copy!

Blood & Sand will contain:

One 22x34 map (used for all scenarios)
One 11x17 map (used with the full map for the campaign game only)
121 combat counters (9/16?)
50 game markers (9/16?)
One Opportunity Card deck for Allies (27 cards)
One Opportunity Card deck for Axis (27 cards)
One full-color rulebook with 8 pages of rules, four scenarios, and examples of play
Two Reinforcement Schedule play-aid cards (one Allied, one Axis)
One Opportunity Card description play-aid card
6 red and 6 white dice (six-sided)

DEVELOPER: Neil Randall

Originally the topic didn't grab me, but as I finish up Shelby Foote's Civil War, I realize how much this war shaped the leaders of the next one. Oh - and did I mention that we all need one game on every topic? Mexican-American War...check!

Anyone have a good book recommendation for this topic? That's always a good way to get your juices flowing for a new game.

I'm starting to get the sense that preparing this list is going to be bad for my bank account. Check out this description from GMT's site:

Quote:
Caucasus Campaign is a quick playing, moderately complex game with large hexes and easy-viewing 5/8 counters. The game system is based on the classic Igo-Ugo/movement-combat-exploitation system, but modified
with elements from Ardennes '44 (specifically: Determined Attacks and Defense and unit morale). The tournament scenario (6 turns) can be completely in roughly 2 hours. The full game is 14 turns long and can be finished in one sitting (approximately 5 hours).

This one wasn't on my radar...until now. A simplified A'44 system...on the Eastern Front...large counters...short play time...designed by Mark...

...preordered.

Bounced back from a negative month. Another CDG, this one on Napoleon's vacation in sunny Russia.

Kutuzov 1812: Defending Russia From Napoleon is an interactive, play it complete in one-sitting card-driven game of sweeping manoeuvres, epic battles, storied sieges, lethal attrition and crucial-to-victory troop morale for one to four players from the designer of The Napoleonic Wars and Wellington.

Didn't see a consimworld entry. Anyone have that link?

Second straight month of 11 new orders.

From GMT's site:

Quote:
Bataan! is a two-player operational level game of this WW II Pacific theater campaign, January through April 1942. It presents a fascinating contest of two mismatched armies on a subject our hobby has not gamed often. The US/Filipino defense, embattled, isolated and led initially by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, for three months held off a numerically inferior but well-equipped and very aggressive Japanese force led by General Masaharu Homma.

Did they say "not gamed often"?

They're right, no game on this topic in my collection yet, how about you?

COMPONENTS

1 map, using 19mm hexes, at a scale of 1.2 km to the hex
362 5/8 inch counters
Rule book with historical notes
Set up cards for five scenarios
