I used to keep my game geek hobby a secret from prospective romantic interests and co-workers as long as possible. But everybody here is a gamer. Simple rules: List a game whose title or theme descibes how you make a living or another hobby interest of yours. I'll start..

I teach world history and economics at a Denver area high school. One day I'll figure out how to use this game in class.

I used to play bass guitar in a local blues band. Then I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones for the first time...put down the axe and never picked it up again.

I'm an accounting assistant for an independent mid-to-high end midwestern audio/video store. I tinker around on the company website, which gives me opportunity to peek at the geek while I work. Hopefully in a couple of months I will be able to change this to 'Point of Law' or something similar if I get accepted to law school.

Recently retired Survival Instructor for the US Air Force. I am still trying to recover from at least a 1/2 decade of deep stress The way the US military was doing more and more unwanted world cop missions and then this last stunt made my decision not to go a day over 20 years. I am actually an introverted geek at heart, so putting up with the macho bull hasn't always been easy. Board games are more my temperment! Playing board games at local game shops, with fun loving people, has gone a long way toward making me feel alive again, and reawaken my true self. Since my wife is a psychologist maybe we should do some research on the therapeutic value of board gaming It might actually have some value for shut-ins etc. Think we should submit other mentally unbalanced to our dementia?

So as a part of that return to my natural self, I will be going to school, probably in something like media software programming, since that is what i have dabbled in for the last 5 years

I am an undergraduate math and computer science student (graduating in a week). I am taking a year off from school, after which I plan to get a doctorate in some combination of math and cs, and then probably teach at a university and do research/have fun.

I have had many strange, random interests besides board gaming, which is a more recent one. Before I found BGG, I played Go pretty regularly for about a year, and before that I played Hex a lot. For the first couple years of college, I was a pretty serious juggler, doing balls, clubs, rings, diabolos (chinese yo-yo), contact juggling, palm spinning... you name it. I've also been a musician most of my life, playing piano, viola, bass, a little guitar, and recently have been singing in and directing a college a cappella group.

Some of the other random things I've gotten in to in the past.. I was a Rubik's cube nerd in high school, and still pull it out sometimes. When I'm practiced I can clock in at a little over a minute. I started doing Tai Chi Chuan last year, but I didn't have time to keep it up; I'd really like to pick it back up when I have more time, and ultimately get into the martial aspects of it. This past year I've started playing disc golf with some friends, I guess that's the only "sport" I can claim to play. Oh, and in high school I memorized 550 or so digits of pi (more of an embarrassing fact than an interest).

With that list, I'm sure a few of you share some common interests... ???

p.s. really good idea for a list

I'm a divine being, who cherishes in punishing puny mythical creatures.

No, really, I am.

Or perhaps not. Rather I review computer and video games for money (not a lot of money, but...). I am also graduating from the university by the end of the year. My major is media studies and the subject of my final thesis will be 'Interactive storytelling in computer games'. I'm focusing my study on Planescape: Torment, but I'll touch some other games as well.

As for my hobbies... well, there are computer and video games. And there are roleplaying games. And I enjoy football a lot (that's soccer for all you ignorant people out there).

Anyone see a trend here?

In addition I try to read a lot. I like fantasy literature and historical subjects. My favorite authors include Tolkien, Umberto Eco and J. Gregory Keyes.

My husband and I try to go on at least two SCUBA trips per year. We've gone to Jamaica, Grand Bahama, Key Largo, Cozumel, and Acapulco so far. Every once in awhile we consider going skiing or something but in the end we always go where it's nice and warm and the water is clear and the fishies are bright.

I'm not an Inuit, and I don't live in an Igloo... but I had to pick a sound-based game because I've worked in sound editing ever since I left college.

I wanted to work in a music recording studio, but jobs in that field are awfully difficult to find. I got lucky, though, and worked in film post production as an assistant sound editor for awhile.

Three Pokemon movies later (I kid you not), I had enough of the mania inherent in the film biz, and looked for a more stable job. I'm now an audio editor at an internet audiobook company.

As far as hobbies... I like trying to design my own games, though I'm not particularly good at it yet. I'm also a big fan of ferrets, as if my avatar wasn't a dead giveaway. And I listen to obscure, unpopular music. If you look at enough old GeekLists, you'll dig up the gory details...

I'm a Patent Examiner in Canada. I'm angling to get the board game art. I'd love to be able to say that I examine board game patents for a living.

The other day I came across the prosecution for the patent on magic cards. One of my co-workers just wrote another report on it recently. Garfield still hasn't gotten a patent in Canada! Check out the drawings.

http://patents1.ic.gc.ca/details?patent_number=2128634&langu...

In my "spare time" I read (mostly fiction and comics) skateboard, snowboard, swim, dabble with a couple musical instruments (drums, sax, and guitar), toss the frizzbee around, play hockey, juggle and just generally enjoy a good time. I wish I was still into Archery. If you can't do everything you can at least try.

I work for an industry currently in decline--American Textile Manufacturing. I'm in the computer geek division (a.k.a. IT), though I don't program computers anymore. I pretty much listen to all the millions of customer requests (they call them requirements or mandates) and upcoming issues (like "off-shoring" to third world countries) and deal with them.

Don't get me started talking about the silliness that has led to the decline of American manufacturing and their inability to compete in an unfair market. RFID. Chargebacks. Offsets. Return allowances. Labelling variances. Reverse auctions. It's enough to make your blood boil.

Alas, I don't feel any better now.
