This list is of the games I play most frequently, NOT a list of my all-time favorites, per se. There are games I'm sure I'd play quite a bit if I had them. Honestly, I hate to put them in order of which gets played the most to the least, because I'm so sporadic and arbitrary in my gaming habits. If, after having seen the list, you have a recommendation, or a frequently played game of your own you'd like to share, (or two, or three), I certainly welcome your input. Remember, this isn't about which game is our favorite, or which one we think is coolest, but rather, which ones we actually get down off the shelf and play the most. After having constructed it, I realize that there are a few games which I will probably add as deserving "honorable mention" for just barely missing the boat.

My kids and all their friends are constantly trying to get me to play this one, and the effort needed is minimal! Once you get the order of events down pat, this game moves at a very satisfying pace, and, as the ardor of all those kids implies, it is great fun.

This is one of the true treasures on Board Game Geek. The kids love this one as well, and we've played it often. We enjoy it so much that we've played almost every variant, on two different boards! And this game does have enough variants and maps to keep it lively and interesting for many moons to come. This game is FREE to print and play, so unless you have absolutely no time or no skills, I would strongly urge you to get one of the best gaming bargains on the internet!

I've played this one many times with my son, (who is now nine years old!), as is shown in the picture above! In fact, it's getting to be about time for he and I to give it another go! For fast-action head-to-head war-gaming, this game is hard to beat, antique though it is.

After being introduced to Avalon Hill by Panzer Leader, the acquisition of this little gem wasn't long in coming, (as was the acquisition of Panzer Blitz & Wooden Ships and Iron Men). I don't know why, but for some reason, when I want to get my grognard freak on, this is the one of tank trio that almost invariably gets called to duty. I love and play the other two, but this one gets more frequent love, by far.

This is another one that I play with my son, (or solo, if he's not around). It's fascinating, though a bit heavy on the accounting side. The action is swift, the movement is fairly accurate, (I would guess), and the results are imminently satisfying. This is another Avalon Hill game that is lamentably out of print.

I picked this up randomly at a thrift store one day about 3 or 4 months ago for a quarter and my friends would not Stop playing it!
There is an incredible amount of tension when you get put in one of those impossible positions where you absolutely agree with the last bet.
The fact that it was 30 6 sided dice for 25 cents alone made it worth getting.
