I officially logged my 1000th game played last night. In a lot of ways, it felt like my birthday. It was fun. We picked out a special game that we both like and decided that would be #1000. I felt like we were celebratinga all the fun we've had and all the good times and good friends this hobby has brought us.

Here's a look at my first 1000 games played.

This is the first game I logged on BGG. It was March of last year. I was just scratching the surface of what this site has to offer. This led me to write my first Geeklist which ultimately showed me a huge amount of games. In the end, the only one I ended up getting was El Grande and that was about 6 months after I did the list. But still, it introduced me to some new ideas in games and also to the great BGG community.

This is my second-second most played game. I regard this one as the highest because its just so easy to play 10 games of Magic in a row. This one has definitely been played on many more occassions so its my unofficial most-played title.

I think this one gets played so much because its very easy to play, but there's a lot of fun decisions to make. I love the fact that the game is half auction and half blind bid. Many Geeks don't like blind bidding, but my family eats it up, so this one gets played almost every time we get together and I think it always will. I should probably rate this one higher than I do.

Cool list, I am getting this one since you like it so much :D.

I think I have more then a 1,000 games logged in the last 6 months, but will have to check - is it bad to copy your idea of a Geek List? :arrrh:

Not at all Tom! Share as much as you'd like. This is probably a great choice for you because you seem to have a lot of people to play with. The game is language independent and its very easy to teach.

This, according to stats, is my most played game. In reality, Magic has only really been getting played since the end of May when I switched jobs. I now work with a childhood friend who I used to play Magic with. Now that we work together, we'll play 8-10 games a day when we're both in the office. Its still fun after all these years and I'm glad I get to enjoy the game in a casual setting. 3 years of constant competition ruined Magic for me once upon a time. Now we play with pre-constructed decks and we have a blast.

This list would be nothing without my favorite game of all time: Carcassonne. My log shows that I've only played this 27 times but in fact, its probably well over 300. I don't log my online plays and I usually play at least once a day. I don't know how I could find that out for sure, but I'd like to know.

The reason this doesn't get played more is that I only like this one as a 2-player game so it doesn't get played when my family is around. I've tried it with more and it just doesn't work as well for me.

the 3 person is also a lot of fun, and a little different Strategy.

COngrats on the 1,000 games - very cool

Latina - Thank you very much!

Brad - I don't. I play this vanilla with 2 players. Its super confrontational and highly tactical. There's a bit of luck, but not much. If I play just for fun with my fiance, I play Princess & Dragon, Inns & Cathedrals, Mini Expansion, and the River without the base game.

It must be tricky to play with only the big meeple, Bob and the piggle.

This list would not be complete without my other perfect 10, Scripts and Scribes. This game is just perfect in the same way that For Sale is. Its easy but incredibly challenging. Again, this has less plays because I prefer this one as a 2-player game. Also, it only scales to 4 which is tough because there's usually 5 of us when the family gets together. On the whole, this is an incredible game that I have enjoyed over 20 times.

I'll bring a copy if you look me up at GenCon. I'm not sure how many other copies will be floating around...

This game was my #1 most played for a long time until I got a bit burned out. My mom and I used to play this game a lot when we worked together. We'd play before work and sometimes during lunch. Its a great game for 2, but once you get into it, you notice that luck plays a big part in the game. We still enjoy it on occassion. Currently its at 32 plays which is pretty good for a game which only cost me $20.

I'm pushing 40 easy. And I don't really see it burning out.

I enjoy the Schotten Totten style a little more. Dump the tactics cards and only play with cards 1-9.

Yea, there's some luck, but I like how it helps everyone win some...

That's odd; I pushed 40 hard. It hurt...:shake:
7. Board Game: Admiral [Average Rating:4.50 Unranked]

What good is a gaming retrospective without some of the crap I've played? Admiral is a fine place to start when the topic of crap is brought up. This game was abominable. I received a copy from Knucklebones to review. When I read the rules, I was petrified. But the game was somehow worse than I thought it could be! Roll and move, play cards that are drawn completely randomly. The one good side was that there was actually a bit of strategy and hand management to advancing your rank. The best thing about this game? It didn't drag on forever and it was reasonably easy to complete.

When I played Admiral, I thought there could be nothing worse. That game was so bad, I just didnt' think someone could create a more mindless "game". Enter Urban Legends. Holy crap is this bad. At least Admiral had the decency to end in a reasonable time frame. This one just goes on and on and on and on..... ad nauseum. Actually, I believe the term "ad nauseum" was created to describe this exact game and its inability to finish.

As bad as this game is, at least it gets talked about. There are about 130 other games in my collection which I'm not going to even mention here. None of them are nearly as bad as UL, but UL is so bad its the kind of game that gets brought up in conversation.

The St. Louis board game meetup group decided to play one game of this. We (wisely) played it as a cooperative game to finish it as soon as possible...

This was #1000. We played our second game of this last night. I have to say, this game really does a great job of imitating the RTS computer game. But it does so in a way that mixes fighting with Euro resource management. I really like this game. I do wish that the pieces were better, but these will just have to do I think unless someone can point me in the direction of some sweet plastic figures.

oh, come on not every game needs pretty plastic pieces. At least the wood is all cut in shapes instead of different size books and rectangles.

I'm definitely not a bits whore, but I think it would have looked much cooler with figures instead of wooden facsimilies. It doesn't hinder the gameplay in any way, it would just look waaaaaaaay cooler.

I wonder what my gaming future holds? What will the next 1000 look like? I can already tell you that I'm starting to get into wargames a bit, so I think we'll see more of that in my next 1000. I also see Magic being a big part of that again which is fine by me. Ultimately though, I hope my next 1000 is filled with the fun and laughs that the first 1000 brought me. I love the fact that this hobby has given me something to do with my family and friends. Most importantly it has given my fiance and I a place to connect and a way to share something more intellectual than watching TV. It has provided us with hours of entertainment and has given us a way to grow together.

So after 1000 logged plays, I say "Thank You" to this wonderful hobby and to all the people who have made it so much fun.

Congrats good buddy. I'm still working my way up to the 1,000 mark. I was happy to look in my collection and see how many games I've played 5+ times.

I checked, I am at 849 games for 9 months, but Nov. was when I started here late and only had 2 logged games. I am not countind the Heroscape game si Logged in but was before I joined here, I actually logged 50 HS games, but could have logged way more since for 7 weeks I was playing about 6-8 hours a day of HS - and loving it.

I will so make 1,000 game next month with 3 weeks of solid gaming and GenCon.

Great GL, thanks for sharing
