Just another light party game, for a bit of a change. Of course some of use had moods that were either very close to another mood already on the board or are a bit covert to express both verbally & non-verbally.
2. Airships [Average Rating:6.54 Overall Rank:710]

7/31

Players Don Lisa Tom Nate

As our first game we pulled out Airships.

Lisa made a run early on getting a whole bunch of the cheaper blimps. Making it tough for anyone to compete initially. I built up a decent board, lending itself to going for the blimps and Hindenburg with black on them. I was setup for what i thought was the win, when a late placement on the Hindenburg by tom almost cost me the game. Fortunately Lisa couldn't / didn't counter it by ending the game allowing me to claim a blimp then fill the last Hindenburg piece ending it, giving me the win.

Tom and Nate in their first place were caught by the aspect of figuring out what to go for when. Which seems fairly typical for a first play.

There were some interesting word flips, like "vole" to "lover" to "clover" & "leaf" to "fetal." I'm surprised I did well since I usually can't think that fast to form a good word, let alone snatch one.

Lisa, Grace, Kelly, Wally and Ben played this one. Lisa apparently was a bit too corrupt being thrown to the gator's. Giving the win to Grace

Players Lori Nate Tom Don

The four of us got to playing a game of Modern Art. Unlike other times when I've played this with Nate, his slightly wild bidding didn't pay off. Partially because we had a few short seasons, one which only had one artist out there.

There were a couple of aha moments when people who hadn't played before or only played once realized they had gone higher than they could get on return.. oooops. :)

While waiting for Cleopatra to finished, we pulled out Carcassone. Lori stated she always has problems with this game. I tried to give her some hints as we went along, and i think she did better than in the past. Tom made a good run at things though, pulling ahead quite a bit as we went. I however managed to get most of my meeples out onto fields in the end, and had dropped some tiger's on other peoples (namely Tom's).

I took the win by 1 point. All in all a really close game - Lori got hurt by being the only person not sharing one of the river systems.

Players Don Lisa Wally Lori Nate

We ended the night with some bean trading. Game went pretty well for me, allowing me to complete some full chains. Towards the end i ended up drawing all of one type, not doing me much good with only one round left - and it was a type the only Nate had out and didn't have anything to help me, so i just held on to them. A good thing too as the game came down to a tie break - my few harvests of long chains paying off.

Players Grace Julie Rich Monique Don Kelly Nate Lori

We started off with our few new people with a quick game of Tsuro. Lisa sat out as we had 9 people. Was a fairly even game, we were a couple turns in before the first elimination, and the rest came pretty quickly after that. I couldn't find a corner and was left in the hands of others, never a good thing.

In the end, the last 4 players would have been eliminated on the same turn, giving them all the win.

Winners: Rick Kelly Nate Monique (i think)

I wasn't too familiar this game, but wanted to give it a whirl. The problem with this game is that you can either a) run out of investigation cards; or b) run out of coins for the investigation cards, needed to indicate which suspects (the letter cards in your hand) you can provide alibis for. And then you're stuck making a guess for who the 3 criminals are. Then again, when reading the directions (or translation thereof), it makes sense that this game can operate on score for correct guesses instead of first-player-to-guess-correctly based on the limited resources (cards/coins). But this game is pretty long, too, so I'd probably only recommend it for 3 of 3-6 players, and rate it a 5 out of 10 BGG score.
