Why, yes, Firefly was a wonderful TV show... and the Fresno Gamers got to have a "shiny" night of old favorites & brand-new games.

I taught Stacy this nifty little placement game... and beat her. (I don't have the exact score, but it wasn't pretty.)

I need to teach more folks to play this - it has a Kupferkessel Co.-ish mechanism for placement that offers really painful decisions.

Stacy, Richard, Braeden & I all went into the dungeon... and none of us came out. Richard got killed by something (I don't remember what), Stacy fell down a bottomless pit, and Braeden was finished off by an orc, even though he had a huge haul of cash from the dragon. I survived the longest... but ran out of time before I could escape.

Yep, that's DQ.

I really like this dice/set-collecting game... but I absolutely STINK at it. I think I've only won one game of it so far. It's a great 2 player filler.

My daughter was in Germany for three weeks and brought a copy home for me. I agree with both of your observations. Shanghaien is the best of the recently released dice games, and, like you, I stink at it.

John, Stacy & Richard attempted to stave off plagues... with ZERO success. No cures... none, nadda, zippola.

Ouch.

This is a really cute smuggling game... which means LOTS of bluffing. It's one of those "read the crowd" games - you have to pay attention to who is getting hit and who is getting a free pass. I think if you played it enough, it would all come down to card draw with experienced players, but it's not the kind of game you're going to play 3 times in a row so that shouldn't be a problem.

This was my 2nd game of it. My first game I played several rules wrong, but we still had fun.
I like the tins, I've heard that they may make an english version of this, but without the tins... :(

After my first game, I added card sleeves for keeping the 3 cards out per round, that seemed to help keep things organized.

And I thought I was doing so well too I lose a lot! Problem was what I kept back was what everyone else kept back too so no points for me!

We played two games of Aquaretto:

Richard 27 (3 coins)
Will 27 (1 coin)
Stacy 25

Mark 35
John 32
Will 28

I'm really enjoying this... we need to schedule a time to play a Zooloretto/Aquaretto combo game.

My rivergold fu was not strong enough to defeat Mike's leech fu. Amazingly, John was not the King of Whiskey this time... even with a moonshine still on the board.

John got lots of green arrows early... so he put the pedal to the metal and ROARED out to the front. He finished the race before any of the rest of us where able to round the 2nd corner. Still, Mike managed to fill his holds with Steve's gold and make it close.

GREAT game...

Uwe Rosenberg (Bohnanza, Mamma Mia, Agricola, etc.) knows how to do weird stuff with cards - Nottingham is no exception. I like how fast it plays and how the decisions remain interesting.

I was trying (in vain) to pull an "all special goals" win... the other guys were scoring sets & specials. But I was just ONE card away from another 25 points...!

There's lots of possabilities every turn, I think it takes experiance to see many of them :)

Keeping a travel buck always on hand looks to be a good idea.

Also, the taking arrows thing is a bit confusing at first, and we probably should have utilized this more often.

Was fun though :)

I really, really enjoyed this one. I'm a huge sucker for pretty pieces, so the ugly board turned me off from the start, but the gameplay was amazing and quickly won me over. I'd love to play this again, and 3 players seems it was the optimal #.

Will finally managed to pull off a military victory with me in the game...

Will 23 (planets) + 0 (vps) + 15 (devs) = 38
Mark 12 (planets) + 6 (vps) + 14 (devs) = 32
John 19 (planets) + 3 (vps) + 5 (devs) = 27

I've done it before too as I recall, or at least came close. In a 3 or 4 player game with Mark.

For some reason, Mark's military draw magnet doesn't seem to work as well unless its just him and me.

They key to this win was that I drew the 6 dev that gives points for military power. Unfortunately on the turn that I drew it (a 7 card explore draw where I could only keep 1 card) I had to throw out both a 6 and a 7 military rebel world. Ouch! The best military hand I've ever drawn and I had to throw most of it out.

Mark and I both tried to lay out 2 action cards once or twice as if we were playing a 2 player game. :)

I made two identical decks with mostly commons to teach newbies with. There's a lot of luck of the draw so newbies will have a chance. But it seems like the three times I've tried it I get a pretty good draw and crush. I should probably make a good deck and I'll take one of these so the newbie (or John) should crush but I have a chance. :)
