I hadn't really planned on doing a post WBC convention list. Then something happened. The Lancaster Host took the space the convention had used for open gaming and turned it into a comedy club. Open gaming moved to several places, including a tent outside. To the best of my limited knowledge, no notice was given to make other arrangements in advance. Some people who made reservations a tear in advance were told they didn't have a room. The end of WBC can be draining because many naturally get les sleep. but I sensed the short notice changes (including last minute event moves) got to many.

Thanks to Don Greenwood and Kaarin Englemann for their dedication, Bruno Pasacantando for always smiling and for taking time to talk and listen, and to all of the other board members AND all GMs and assistant GMs, Kid's room helpers, and evryone else for working tirelessly and sacrificing their sleep and gaming time to provide good experiences.

I wanted to mention some people by name that made my experience a very good one despite the challenges.

If anyone wants to add anyone else to the list, please feel free to do so.

Ivan Lawson. This event has been a mainstay of my WBC. Ivan always seems to have a smile on his face, even when looking for spare games.

NOTE: A year before, some of my cards got bent when I lent my copy. Now that I have a new copy, I'll bring it from now on. If you have LC and plan to play, definitely bring your copy.

Mary Ellen Powers: Assistant GM.
Mark Love Does a great deal to add flavor to the game: using monster movies as prizes, wearing a hanging eyeball hat, and supplying gamers with candy and "monster drinks" from time to time. HOWEVER, Mark has a great Asst. GM in Mary Ellen. She's only 16, but she knows the rules to Menace arguably better than Mark, she's a blast to play with, and she's been a great Monsters rival. Last year I made it to the finals, this year to the semis. Mark and Mary Ellen have kept it fun.

The one negative: I am considering giving this event up because I don't know Ravage, and I wouldn't want to lengthen the game. I played a Menace game with 3 Ravage players and the game took over two hours. I would not want to drastically prolong a game of Ravage because I didn't know the differences. My one disagreement with Mark is he continues to allow both games to be played. HOWEVER, I'm afraid if one of the games were cut the game would lose attendance dramatically. It's eerie; the plays are almost split perfectly down the middle between Ravage and Menace. Thanks to Mark for listening to the constant "I'm not playing menace/ravage" comments an taking things in stride. Thanks to Mary Ellen for smiling and rules clarifications. Just to mention, Mary Ellen's father Bill taught me War of the Ring at Prezcon last year. Families that teach games. Awesome.

Winton Lemoine: GM.

This was a new event that got moved around from place to place, and was SWAMPED with gamers of all different skill levels. Winton handled the changes very well, even finding an assistant GM on the fly. He was able to come up with giant placards with numbers/symbols from Race to help match players up quicker.

Plus he's funny, and cool to game with.

HellOOOOOOO....

This guy just loves to laugh, and I love to make him laugh.

(I'd come in after the heat was over, act like I was panting and ask him if I could still play the heat. I was two minutes late to the 3rd heat and missed it by SECONDS hehehe)

Can't wait for a game run next year buddy!

Doug Porterfield: GM / Richard Irving

Doug had to go to the hospital (dehydration/exhaustion) right before the finals, and Richard Irving took his place with very short notice. SHortly afterwards, Doug was back and ready to game.

Doug is just another nice guy I just met this WBC. I met Mr. Irving at my first WBC and have enjoyed gaming with him.

Just one more person that ( to me anyway) has a cool way about her and a great smile and is always laughing. Especially when she beat me (at a Medici tourney I think).

Thanks to Kaarin and everyone that helped organize the seminars at WBC, particularly in game design. Thanks to Sean McCulluch and Chris Yaure. I enjoyed these very much; seminars like these could cost a lot through a college. Thanks guys.

Harry Flawd: GM

I love the way Harry runs this event. Since some teams are inherently stronger than others in Paydirt, each team has a power rating which determines its point spread against other teams. Harry begins every round of Paydirt at WBC with an auction in which players bid for teams starting at their power rating and then going up. It is a rowdy and exciting auction, especially when we all force the fans of certain teams to pay too much for the teams they love!
