In years past Eric Brosius and Coyotek4 have created fine geeklists detailing the games they have played at WBC and hopefully they will again this year. The story of the games I play there are all the same: the competition is tough and I lose, sometimes to kids a third of my age. So this geeklist is all about the other stuff that happened to me at WBC.

Please feel free to add your own stories.

I live about an hour away, so mostly I commuted to WBC. On Tuesday however, my family came with me and went to Dutch Wonderland just down the street so we got a room at the Passport Motel, two doors down from the Lancaster Host. We arrived late, checked in, then went to our room to drop stuff off and use the bathroom. I was putting away my stuff when my wife says "I can't open the door." Since I have the male disease where I can't believe anything my wife tells me unless I try it myself, I went over and tried to open the door. The knob turns, but does not move the metal bar holding the door closed. Eventually I ask my wife to call the front desk. Two people from the hotel come over and start working on the door. No, I can't open the door, that's why I called you. No, I don't have the chain on the door locked, I'm not a moron. Fifteen minutes later, they open the door, which involves the keys and a hammer.

So the guy from the front desk steps into the room and keeps fooling with the door. We want to leave, but he wants to fix the door and check us into this room. So he says, "Please keep back," then steps outside and CLOSES THE DOOR. Naturally it is stuck again, so it's another 15 minutes with the hammer before we're out.

They switched us to another, nicer, room, but they owe me thirty minutes of gaming.

The main public bathrooms at the Lancaster Host are a little too busy for me, so I prefer the bathrooms that are a little bit further away. So I am finishing up in this less frequented bathroom and I find that there is no toilet paper. Fortunately I can hear someone moving about out there, so I ask if he can pass some paper towels under the stall walls. And I hear the guy WALK OUT. Doesn't even wash his hands. So I have to sneak out myself. Fortunately the coast is clear. I stuck some tissues in the stall and told a hotel employee, who also ignored me.

I had to get directions to a miniature golf place my wife wanted to go to, so I went the the Host's front desk. As I approached one of the women at the desk slipped into a back room and the other went to the door and murmered, "Let me in, let me in!" Fortunately I was able to convince them I wasn't an axe murderer and got directions.

I suppose when a 300 pound bald 40 year-old game geek approaches an unknown women, it's natural to be mistaken for a horny, odiferous pervert. However, if I can speak to her for five minutes I can demonstrate that I'm a married, sociable, reasonably normal guy. Then I attempt to crush her beneath the heels of my legions.

And when I got home On Saturday I had three packages waiting for me. One from Boards and Bits containing:

Toledo
Tribune: Primus Inter Pares
TZAAR
Khet 3D: Tower of Kadesh
(evidently I was browsing in the Ts when the urge to purchase hit me) and
Shadows over Camelot: Merlin's Company

I also got Yspahan from a trade with Lestat and Rapscallion from Bezier Games. And of course Agricola came from Z-Man earlier in the week. So I still have much gaming to do.
