Erik Warnes (unixrevolution) had initiated the BGG chain of generosity which has been going strong since then. Unfortunately, global mail prices can be quite high, probably making the list a little uninteresting for non-Americans (though a few do regulary participate in the chain). With this GeekList I'll try to play my part to make a similar chain avaiblable to all Europeans (thanks, Jack (anglotiger), for the suggestion of a seperate GL!). Over the years more generous Geeks started different chains and we currently have the following running all across Europe:

Original Chain of Generosity and Pay It Forward Chain (Board Games / more largish game offers)
Woolly Shrubbery Chain and The JAGGY Chain (Board or card games)
Shane Chain and The Shane Chain - part deux (Board or card games)
Original Card Game Chain and Second Card Game Chain (Card games only)
Game parts, Miniatures and Small Expansions Chain (as it says-should fit into a stuffed envelope or small box)
The Delicacies Chain (local sweet or salty treats plus something gaming related - needs to alternate between countries)
The ALEGRIA Chain (only for kids, youngsters and party games - no problem if the adults like them, too)
The JOGO EU Chain (board games, card games and anything gaming related) (JogoEu blog)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rules (shamelessy but with thanks copied from the global chain):

RULES:

1. You must comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the drawing to recieve it in order to be eligible to win.
2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away in this fashion. If you don't like that idea, don't play. Please do not wait until you receive your win before offering a game of your own - its all about generosity.
3. Set a deadline of around 5 to 10 days.
4. In the event that no offers are made on your game within the deadline, try a different game in its place and set a new deadline.
5. If you wish to start a new chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description. For those later in the chain, identify which chain your game belongs to.
6. Sender pays shipping, unless he indicates in his entry that the recipient will and under what grounds (International shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where recipient pays shipping agree to do so.

AND NOW HAVE FUN SPREADING GENEROSITY AROUND EUROPE!

PAY IT FORWARD CHAIN

After winning my first generosity item, I am very happy to announce that I too have some games to offer (duh... otherwise I wouldn't have participated in the first place... so I'll just stop babbling and get on with the offer), which due to my bad luck so far weren't available to you my friends.

You get a choice of one of the following two:

1. The Swarm by Wolfgang Kramer and Michael Kiesling, with artwork from Franz Vohwinkel.
It's a game for 2 to 4 players, plays quick, and has an elegant mechanism to get the available actions for the round.

It's based on the best selling book, so for fans of that - they might find the greater sense behind the exploration of the sea - because, I am honest: I didn't.

It was played once, but is in excellent condition. There are wooden bits!
The components are language independent, the rules are in German, but here on the BGG available in English as well.

OR

2. Space Pigs by Pascal Bernard.

It's for 3 to 6 players, I tried it with 6 and it was over much much quicker than the 120mins that it says in the BGG entry.
So yes, again, it is not brand new, but played once.
I apologize for this.
The only games I have shrink wrapped are smaller games and don't have the same value as the games of the Pay It Forward Chain normally have.

The components are only partly language independent. The rules in the box are in German, here at the BGG you can find the French rules (Bernard is French, so that shouldn't surprise anyone). But about 60% of the cards are in German, and the player-ad and the special rules of each player are only available in German.
So I cannot recommend it to non-speakers.

Maybe "der Schwarm" tickles you instead.

I yet have to think of an extravagant way to randomize the result, Chris set the bar a bit high here...

ITEM IS CLOSED
I thought of two elaborate ways to determine the winner via a randomization process which are unique enough to present here.
1) I thought of assigning each participant a random number (with the help of a D10) and then start at a random place (36 D6) of Pi.

Thought it would have been nice...

I thought of something else.

2) On Saturday I celebrated Thanksgiving (a weekday is just too inconvenient for anyone outside the States), and I recently sorted all my boardgames.
6 of them are for dominant display (picture will follow). The first auction participant would have gotten shelf two, the second shelf five, and the third shelf four (because shelf one, and three, don't hold games that are as easily picked up as other games... ).

The first boardgame that would be played that evening had to come out of one of the shelves... whichever shelf-holder would have the right one?

Since there were two participants (Thanks Arne for the late entry, that way my random-mechanic actually got used) I divided the shelves into two shares of numbers (both in shelves and in likely games to be played).
The shelves should be numbered 1 through 6, with the first being in the top left corner)

Christian got shelf number two.
Arne shelf five.
Since only one more likely shelf was available, I decided that if a game would be taken from that shelf it would not count.. and next boardgame would be the decisive one.
But what to do with all the other shelves?
Well, Arne got shelf one as well (one games playable with 6 players and very likely to boot...), while Christian got my prototype shelf (one game playable for 6 games, but my friends are likely to choose one of my games every once in a while). Christian now had 4 games, which were likely to get played (Necreaux, Race, Infinite City and Set Sails (no, its not in the database yet, sorry)), Arne had four as well (Liars Dice, Spank the Monkey, Kutschfahrt, and Dominion)...

I believe that both had an equal and fair amount of likely games...

But in the end... only two games got played in the evening.
Spank the Monkey and Isle of Dr. Necraux were played.

...

But Necreaux was played first!

So Christian wins the auction!

Card Game - Second Chain

On offer is a copy of Avalon, yet another in the Kosmos 2 player small box series. We've played this quite a few times and it's OK but it's never really grabbed us, so time for it to find a new home where hopefully it will be more appreciated.

This is in German, but there is minimal text on the cards and we had no problems at all. An English translation of rules and cards is included.

Who's up for some Arthurian themed cardplay?

OK, time's up and Merlin must rise from his slumber and choose between Sir Ben son of King Bates and Sir Pedro the Orgulous. Naturally he organises a tournament, on the grounds that Might makes Right.

Sir Ben is the red knight whereas Sir Pedro is clothed in yellow rainment. Drawing cards from the Avalon deck, the duel starts with an inconclusive exchange of blows (sorceress cards) before Sir Ben manages to knock Sir Pedro off his steed (drawing a red knight card). Chivalrously Sir Ben dismounts from his own mount (or falls off anyway) to continue the fight, with both knights taking a further wound. The fate of Avalon hangs in the balance as the battling chevaliers batter away at each other until finally a huge blow sends one of the doughty duo to the ground, unable to continue.

The dust settles to reveal that the winner is dressed in red.... Sir Ben has triumphed!

Send a carrier pigeon with details of your castle Sir Ben and great rewards will follow.

Commiserations to Sir Pedro the Orgulous, you fought long and bravely. No doubt you will return to victory in future tournaments!

My first turn

I am offering the German version of Carcassonne: The Discovery.
But if you prefer Myst state so in your comment.
The rules are in German (it's the German version "Neues Land") but the components and board are 100% language free. I played this game only a few times so it still looks great.
(Myst is in English).

I'll leave this up until 9:00 PM CET Wednesday evening the 16th.

edit: language info: it's the german version, but English printed rules here from BGG are included.

Edit December 14th:

With only 1 entry it will be tough to decide who wins. I tried already at random.org, but whenever I enter 1 for both min and max it changes the max to 2 then I hit "generate". Anybody any suggestions on how to draw this on the 16th if then there is still only 1 person interested?

Also, since there was only 1 entry for the Sir Bedivere, and I have the Shadows over Camelot expansion, and to keep in the spirit of the chain, I'll send out the gallant knight out on a quest to Scotland, to Ed_the_Red.

My dices are: W4, W6, W12, W20 (even=gerade=Ben, odd=ungerade=Bit)

Roll 16: 1-3-12-20 (no winner)
Roll 17: 1-6-4-5 (no winner)
Roll 18: 3-5-4-8 (no winner)

Original Chain of Generosity

Sorry for the delay folks, but I have been trading and selling a lot of games recently, so was waiting to see what I still had available. Only 2 to choose from this time around I'm afraid.

Ingenious

In very good condition indeed.
This is the Mensa Connections version.

The Green Game

Again in very good condition.
Appears hardly played.
Some very slight scuffing on box.
One of the rarer games on BGG - only 4 owners!
Great for helping kids to understand the needs of their planet.

This will end on the very last minute of the very last day of 2009.

Update

This is strange as I had a couple of people interested in Mensa Connections last time I listed. I guess I will have to find some other games to offer.
Give me a few days and I'll see what I can track down.

Hooray! I won another game! So let's see what my gaming closet has to offer...

or

2) Tin Soldiers

This copy is still in shrink. Somehow I got two copies of this great partnership trick-taking game. High time that this copy got played...

PAY IT FORWARD CHAIN

O.K. My turn with a slight delay! I will give you two offers! First! The infamous Squad Seven! A game that takes exactly 17 minutes to play, by the end of which you'll be sweating like a pig from running around the table and shoot those darts agains the targets. This is the first edition, which means it comes with the MEAN gun arrrh Hard recoil and strong shot ninja I suggest you play this with kids or with your friends after you had some drinks!!

Second choice:

Keltis: the travel edition! Portuguese/spanish edition, which is language independent though, I haven't checked if the rules are already available on the geek but I'll translate them myself if needed. Since this is a smaller game, I also through in

Card game in the fashion of tile placing games, can be neat... I guess...

Offer will be on till...21st o' jannuary. Good luck to all of you!

Very well... it's 1 a.m. 21st... so I'll make the draw! Contestants are:

Celtic Joke for Keltis
ousgg for Keltis
Settler of Agricola fo Squad 7
HRune for Squad 7
TMVM for Squad 7
talismanisland for Squad 7
Ceryon for Keltis

It's prety late, which menas that the develish tool of randomness already went to its' vile stinking hole for some beauty sleep. I was looking at random.org to see what I could find to draw the lucky winner, wasn't very easy though! So I figured this:

I throw a Creedence Clearwater Revival CD into the player. It has 8 tracks:
- I put a spell on you
- The working man
- Susie Q
- Ninety-nine and a half
- Get down woman
- Porterville
- Gloomy
- Walk on the Water (and fire in the sky! dah dah daaah! dah dah dadah!... oh wait... was thinkin about another song here)

So each one of the contestants is a song:

Celtic Joke - I put a spell on you (remember I got this develish tool of randomness... right? RIGHT?)
ousgg - The working man (yeah right)
Settler of Agricola - Susie Q (giggle)
HRune - Ninenty-nine and a half (that's about your success rate on this bloody geeklist)
TMVM - Get down woman ( gulp )
talismanisland - Porterville (nothing to say about this one, you seem like a perfectly normal chap)
Ceryon - Walk on the Water (Jeeeesus! who does this guy think he is?)

preperations:
Put on track number 7 (Gloomy), and press the "random track" button, so I listen to this song and just wait until it's over, next song wins!

...

3:48 mins later...

Track number...

ONE! I put a spell on you! I love this song!

And you are indeed a winner sir!

Congrats to Celtic Joke!
One Keltis and one Ocean coming right up!

ORIGINAL CHAIN OF GENEROSITY

Sorry for the delay guys, but I have really managed to sell, trade or otherwise dispose of most of my unwanted or lesser played games. I have therefore had to actually go out and buy some purely as trade bait etc.
Here is one of them:

Portobello Market

Still in shrink.
English version. I'm not aware if other rules versions included.

OR

Eragon

Again, brand new in shrink.
English language.

I'll run these 2 until the end of January and I will then probably have to stop bidding on games until I can get enough new ones to offer up as replacements. We'll see.

Update 25 Jan.

Good news - Eragon has been traded in the latest US Math Trade, so it comes off this list.
As it had no takers anyway, I guess not too much of a loss!

Update 30 January

I'm calling a halt today so that I can use the football result random number generator that I used last time.
There are 6 participants and I will allocate each one a number as follows:

Ed_the_Red = 1
ousgg = 2
Pedrator = 3
HRune = 4
cj1582 = 5
Vryolakas = 6

We have 7 matches in the English Premier League this afternoon and I will total all the goals scored in these games and the final numerical figure of the total goals scored (ie, if 32 goals the result is a 2) will determine the winner. If the number does not match an entrant I will then add Sundays games to the total. If still not a result we have 1 game on Monday. After that I'll give up!
For those keeping track the games today are:
Wigan v Everton
West Ham v Blackburn
Liverpool v Bolton
Hull v Wolves
Fulham v Aston Villa
Birmingham v Tottenham
Burnley v Chelsea

Winner
Total goals scored on Saturday was 14, so HRune is our winner.
will be offered up as a trade.
Well done Arne. The Chain goes full circle!

All right. After my first Generosity Chain win, here's my first offer.

Rattenscharf (Rat Hot) in excellent condition.

German version, but gameplay is language-independent.

Good luck everyone. Hope this finds some takers. It is a fun game, but my wife (my 2-player gaming partner 90% of the time) does not like it.

I'll draw the winner on Wednesday, 27 January. Noon German time.

Time to draw the winner. I'm gonna go with the slightly boring but effective method of the coin toss.

Pedrator: heads
ousgg: tails

...the toss...

...and it's tails!

Congratulations ousgg. Send me your address via PM and I'll send out the game ASAP. Hope you like it.

This is the second time that I am allowed to participate... this time around I get the honor to offer some card games. Weee heee.

Item closed.

Second Card Game Chain:

Next up for the second card game chain is Figaro a Rainer Knizia card game for 3 to 6 players. With art and design made by Daniele and Roberta Barletta.
It is unopened.

Rules are probably available in German and Italian (I guess.. for those are the two languages on the back of the box).

Since I cannot find any writing on the cards, this might be a language independent game... but then, once again, I do not know for it is still unopened.

Alternative #1:

Alternatively I offer Relikt by Rüdiger Dorn with art by Michael Menzel.
It is for three to five players, and should play in about 45 minutes (at least that is my experience).

The game comes with German rules, but has rules posted here on the geek in English, Spanish, French, Russian, and Thai... So I am sure that you will find some rules which you will be able to understand 100%.

The game really only needs the rules to be read once, explained once... and that is it... no need to re-read anything, since it is all pretty straight forward. So it is very language independent.
I played this version... but it got very minor wear, since it was onyl played on one game night at my house.

Alternative #2:

(and my personal favorite of the three)

The last game I hereby offer is Vampires' Dance!
These are the ArtsCow printed cards - and cards only. You can find the tuckboxes and the rules here on the geek - of course since this game was created by Mike Reading and Dann May, the later also being the man in charge of the wonderful art.

edit: I forgot to mention that some cards have English text on them... - if this should cause problems... then I uhhh... will offer a translation into... mmmh... Spanish*, Dutch** or German.

Sadly, I don't get play that often with just one friend, and so I have this spare copy that should definitely be played some more than mine (and yes I will keep my first copy!).

Why, do you ask, do I put up a game I like so much - and not give it to a friend as a birthday gift you ask? Because I want to do my part to increase the quality of games here offered... and since I genuinely enjoy this game, I believe that this serves my purpose.

Let the generosity spread!

This offer is up till Monday, February 8th, evening. On the 9th I will declare a winner... and on the 10th I will be one quarter of a century old.

edited, because of my neglect to mention the language dependency for Vampires' Dance, and because I typed a wrong weekday...
* and ** luckily for me, I have friends who are nearly fluent in those two languages.

Update: how to determine the winner...
In a few weeks the Chessex Game Contest ends... and my game is yet to be submitted. But for that very reason there is a box with 36 dice on my table... so I thought why not use them.
Each participant got a number assigned based on the time of the entry.
And my throw was as following:
3 fours,
4 sixes,
6 threes,
7 five,
7 ones
and
9 twos.

and the winner is... Pedro!

And because I feel generous today... and since Carsten was the only person to be interested in anything else (and the dice were not on his side today...) will he also get a game.

Geekmails asking for the addresses are sent.

See ya next time.

ORIGINAL CHAIN OF GENEROSITY

"The luck runs strong in you, not-so-young Hoffmann"

Lets see what I can put up as an offer. Up for grabs is a copy of De Ontembare Stad - the German edition of Huch. The game is language dependent as there is quite some German text on playing cards. English paste-ups are available here on the Geek.

As I am on a gaming weekend from the 5th to the 7th, I will leave this open until the evening of the 8th.

OK, only one participant in this item - guess that makes randomizers rather unnecessary. Congrats Ceryon!
