Why another Lovecraft GeekList you may ask ?

There are already three of them:
Literary: H.P. Lovecraft
The Mythos: A Geeklist that would make Lovecraft proud.
The world of H. P. Lovecraft or Cthulhu loathes you

Yet they are either incomplete, or include dubious items.

This list will only contain games that are directly themed according to Lovecraft's mythos.

I will keep this list up to date with new games. I will not list expansions to games as items, but directly in the main game description. If you feel some game should be present in this list, please leave a comment or GeekMail me.

I hope you will enjoy this list

Mythos Miniatures is a set of rules intended to implement a Lovecraftian skirmish game to be played with miniatures. These miniatures are not part of the game and must be bought from other vendors.

This is a Monopoly rethemed with Cthulhu Mythos. Game mechanisms seem very similar to the Monopoly's, except that you do not loose money but Sanity.
It is not a print'n'play game, but you can buy the PDFs and print it yourself.

This game has been out of print for 20 years. However, you can download it for free on a french website (here)

This is a one against all game. One player is the professor Petersen, who became mad after discovering dark revaltions about his genealogy. He is now trying to call the evil Nyog'Sothep creature. The other players are trying to stop him from doing this.

I really wonder how Trail of the Brotherhood will differ from this game, did it inspired R. Launius in the creation of Trail of the Brotherhood ?

A very strange story telling game, between rpg and board games. As I understood it, players are telling stories in which other players can interact.

We don't know much about this game yet, except that players seem to be on the cultists' side and try to summon a great old one.

Strange Eons is a two players skirmish miniatures game for two players. Each player takes side, and fight over scenarios of increasing difficulties. The publisher does not seem to have a licence for publishing an "official" Mythos game: Lovecraft or the Mythos is never directly quoted on the publisher's website or in the rulebook, only as easter eggs: the tomb stones miniatures include tombs for "HPL" or "Ward". This does not make the game any less interesting and at first sight (I haven't play it) it seems more complete and definitely more polished than Mythos Miniatures, an other Mythos themed miniature games.

This is a japanese card game, where you must not win too many tricks. Basically the player who has won the most tricks will be eaten by a great old one. The Lovecraftian theme seems very light in this game.

Trail of the Brotherhood is a highly anticipated game by Richard Launius. This game has been announced for 15 years but should come out in this year. It seems to be a 1 againt all type of game (like Fury of Dracula (second edition)).

From the editor:

Trail of the Brotherhood is a race against time – for the Cultist Player, their goal is to collect the various cults into The Brotherhood – an organization so wide-reaching and profound as to be able to call the Old Ones and end the world at last! TheInvestigator Players race after the Cultist Player, attempting to stop them by any means necessary from recruiting the cults they need… but of course the Cultist Player can fight back with Spells and Monsters to the bitter end!

From stormseeker75's excellent review:

Quote:

Unspeakable Words is a game for 2-5 players. To start, give each player 5 Cthulhu pawns. Shuffle the deck, and deal each player 7 cards.

On a player's turn, the player may play cards to spell a single word. Words can only be used once per game, but plural forms and singular forms are considered different. The player adds up the total points of the word and then roll the 20-sided die. If their roll is higher or equal than their score, they pass the Insanity Test. If they fail, they still score the points, but they must give up one of their Cthulhu pawns. A roll of 20 is always a success and a roll of 1 is always a failure. Once a player loses all 5 pawns, they are eliminated from the game. After the player's turn is over, they draw cards until their hand size is 7.

A player may instead discard their hand and draw 7 new cards, but this takes their entire turn and they do not get to play a word.

The first player to reach 100 is the winner. However, in order to score the winning points, the player must pass the Insanity Roll. If they fail, they score no points and lose a Cthulhu pawn.

Good review
- C is for Cthulhu. I is for Insanity!!

Another cooperative game set in a Lovecraft set up. This one is quite famous, but I haven't have a chance to play it. I'll just point to a good video review.
