This one is Anya's favorite game in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 had a great Invention Exchange bit with the Rat Pack Chess Set. ("Where does Sammy move?" "Sammy moves wherever Frank tells him to!")

There was also an episode of "Family Ties" that had Alex playing his father at chess. The father was obsessed with what potential opening Alex was attempting.

The first shot seems to clarify that this is, indeed, a Risk board. (Australia is visible) But those pieces are not from any Risk game I know of. I think they're just generic army men.

This Red Dwarf episode reminded me of real conversations I have had with folks who could recount every die roll in a game they played. They seemed oblivious to the fact that I was squeezing my head between my knees and emitting a low moan.

Although not a TV show, RISK was being played in the Stephen King movie "Christine" about 3/4 of the way through the movie.

The movie was being shown on TV, though, if that helps.

"Go" was actually featured quite a bit in the first season or two of "Andromeda" as sort of a visual metaphor for the relationship between two of the characters. But the show started stinking like a pail of soiled diapers, and I stopped watching. Not sure if it ever showed up after that.

They play it in Gojira, on the ship's deck in the first scene.

The game in A Beautiful Mind was obviously set up by a non-Go player. Toshiro Mifune does a lot of waiting on, against and near a Go board in (Tsubaki) Sanjuro (d. Kurosawa, 1962).

While it's not actually being played, this game is featured in the 1st season of Stargate SG-1, in the episode "Fire and Water". Teal'c states he and Daniel Jackson played it many times, after seeing the board and the pieces over a desk in Jackson's apartment.

I don't remember the hoarding, but I remember both the father and Alex making up words. The father's fake word meant "to bathe" or "to shower". Alex's following fake word meant "to towel". Why is this in my head?

There's a great bit in Ellen where all the male characters end up playing Mystery Date ("Mystery Date? I used to play that with my sister!")

Backgammon was, of course, featured in some early episodes of "Lost," but I'm not sure if it ever showed up again. I just remember the sort of ominous way that Locke told Walt the pieces were "light" and "dark" and which did he want to be?

Of course you saw James Bond play this somewhat in the early movies!

Yeah, I just saw that episode. It's shown only briefly as they had each other pieces to play, they call it something else, but it's definitely Quarto! (I wonder if the alien name includes an exclamation point, too?)

Weird. I just watched the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Real Life," in which the Doctor creates a holographic family so he can experience family life. It's a pretty awful episode (featuring a Space Tornado!) but in one scene there's a copy of Terrace on the coffee table of the Doctor's holographic living room.

I didn't realize this had any appearances outside of a few TNG episodes.
