On the 21st September 2008, GNOME (Gamers North Of Manchester, England), who are based in Bolton, threw open the doors of their regular venue and invited all and sundry to join them for a full day of gaming.
This is the story of that day.

The GNOMEs turned up early, we came in with the cleaners before the pub opened. Our regular room looked a little different in the daylight, and it took us a while to get the extra tables in and get everything organised. Fortunately, we had plenty of help.
Hopalong took the opportunity to set up Merchant of Venus. We had been planning to play it for a while. It stayed out all day, not sure if it ever got played.

The bar (and a windowledge) became an impromptu games library, which grew once Nick and Sue arrived - seems I wasn't the only one to place an order with Shire Games and save on the postage.

This truly was a 'gathering of friends'. Many of us knew each other, either through BGG or through the various clubs in the area (two Manchester, one Liverpool, one Chester and of course Bolton were all represented). And of course there were also gamers who were neither in a club or active on the geek.
The great thing about this hobby is that there wasn't a bad'un there. The atmosphere was incredibly friendly, there was no need for nervousness about playing with people you did not know.
Within a few minutes, people were pointing guns at perfect strangers.

The Doffcocker is an *ahem* interesting venue. It sometimes gets too warm, and on a Thursday night you can hear every bum note of the karaoke downstairs, but it has good cheap beer and food.

Come on the mighty Seagulls! So excitied about our first game at the Amex in August after 14 homeless years ....
Erm ... ahem .... Here goes: "Come to Shire Games! If you've never been before, now is the perfect time to come along, as we've just moved to a huge new shop in Stoke-on-Trent! Come along, stay a while and play some games! "

I wasn't thinking along the lines of an established event, I just enjoyed the all dayer and thought it would be cool to do another one sometime, and that if it did happen at my local vanue it might be nice to see a couple of new faces.

Sorry, did I sound negative? Didn't mean to, I intended to be encouraging but realistic. I have a tendency to overthink.
I would love you guys to do something similar and would attend if I got the pass out.

I'll try and be at the next one... or failing that, it had crossed my mind that our Manchester Gamers (Magers) group could run something similar in Manchester one weekend.
