When I was young
I never needed anyone
And playing solitaire was fun
Those days are gone

Monday alone
I call up all the friends I know
When I dial the telephone
Nobody’s home

All by myself
Don’t wanna game
All by myself
Anymore

As I recounted in this thread I was all alone Monday night, and I was interested in keeping away from the TV a little bit. So with the advice and help of some gamers, I went on a journey to have fun playing games solo.

I tried to put the focus on playing some of the games off my list of "games I haven’t played this year" list in order to help on my resolution to playing every game in my collection in one year. I succeeded in eliminating about 8 different games from my list and even decided to get rid of a couple of them permanently.

Here’s the tale of my solo adventure...

Playing the game: I started out the night by following thorndor’s suggestion, and I pulled out some Trivial Pursuit games that no one will play with me. I started with this game and played Gandalf against Frodo.

Both characters ended up with all six wedge pieces and it became a game of who could land on the center space by exact count first. Gandalf won that battle and I easily was able to answer the winning DVD question.

My thoughts after playing: I made the decision that I never need to play this game again. The questions in this game are just too much about the movie and not about the books, which is irritating to me. Add in the fact that no one wants to play it with me, and you have a useless game that doesn't need to remain in my collection.

Anyone interested in a trade?

I picked up the FFG LoTR trivia. I think that one focuses on the books. I'm not sure because I'm not a LoTR fan. But, picked it up in order to entice Alex and Sabrina to play.

It didn't work.

I don't know whether to be happy that my suggestion was useful or upset that it led to you not liking to games you own.

Trust me. Thinning out the collection is definitely a positive. My game room is out of control right now.

And most of the answers to the questions can be found in the bonus features on the extended edition DVDs. After watching those I literally ran the board in one turn and will never play this game again. When my opponent asked "How did they make Galadriel's eyes sparkle?" and I was able to immediately answer "Christmas lights" I knew it was all over.

ok, the punchline. It's just a shot from the webcam on my computer. But here's some of what's behind me at home.

And you say yours is 'out of control'?

Playing the game: As long as I was on a roll with DVD Trivial Pursuit, I grabbed my copy of this game. This time Darth Vader took on Yoda.

Yoda almost didn’t get a turn as Darth Vader wound his way around the board, snatching up one wedge after another. Darth Vader had claimed all 6 wedges and was headed for the center when I finally missed a question. Then Yoda paraded around the board and started snatching up wedges, but before he could get his sixth one I missed another question. That’s when Vader moved in for the kill and won on a very simple winning DVD question.

My thoughts after playing: This game also left me with the feeling that I never needed to play it again. The questions are just too easy for a Star Wars fan, and people never want to play against me in this one either.

Again, anyone interested in a trade?

I'm surprised to hear the questions were so easy...I remember playing long ago and one of mine asked the name of the giant worm creature that lived inside the asteroid in Empire Strikes Back. But I guess that was over 10 years ago and they may have redone all the cards since then.

Edit: Oops, ignore this, just saw the version I played down below.

Want a hard Trivial Pursuit game? Pick up Trivial Pursuit - Disney - The Animated Picture Edition. Even Disney-philes will have a tough go at it ("Who was the voice actor of what character?!")
