Five player game. After the first stock round, the Priority Deal was on my immediate left; that player had 40% of the MK&T, while I had 30%.
The Frisco started by buying FOUR(!!!) 2-trains. This allowed the MK&T (whose Director owned the MK&T private company) to acquire the remaining 2-trains and a 3-train. The MK&T then purchased the MK&T private company!
In the subsequent stock round. the player on my left sold all of his MK&T shares, thus dumping the company into the BROWN zone. This allowed the Frisco Director (sitting on his left) to buy all four MK&T shares at once! Needless to say, I was forced to sell all my MK&T shares )otherwise I'd have three shares at $10 in a company with no trains and $1).
Yes, it is possible to end a game of 18xx with LESS net worth than one started with - and WITHOUT GOING BANKRUPT!

Four player game on pogo.com - I managed to go bankrupt without ever receiving income from passing Go!! How?
--- Three trips to Jail --- The only two times I did pass Go, I landed on Income Tax (no 10% of net worth option in this game)

Tournament game - third edition (with Mexico). I had just enough cash to draw from Kansas City to Mexico City. Once movement started, I managed to get to a apot two pips north of the Mexican border when the first delivery was made. Guess what card was drawn? You guessed it - Rio Grande flood. Once again, I had to drop out (tournament game meant no borrowing - and I couldn't turn around, as I wasn't at a city).

The teams were decided in advance and me and my team mate (axis) had spent a week planning for the perfect strategy. We were so exited and couldn't wait to see the surprised faces of our opponents in the hour of their defeat. The plan was perfect except for one thing, it left Berlin undefended
. The rest is history, a history that still hurts when our opponents remind us of it (and that happens a lot).

I was in a game of We The People with a friend and I was playing the American side. In turn three I got Washington in a bind and he surrounded him and attacked.
Well, I lost the battle and Washington got captured in turn three, TURN THREE, of the game.
Well, we HAD to run this one back.
Turn three (again), me as the Americans (again), Washintgton gets surrounded (again) and losses the battle (again).

I've been out of the game for a long while, but there is one memorable failure that comes to mind. This was during the Rath cycle in the Magic releases.
Every Friday night we used to gather at a local card shop to play Magic. We often did team games or every-man-for-himself melees. On this particular night we decided to do a 3 vs 3 team match. Normally everyone chooses their best deck, or work out an agreement for 3 decks that will work reasonably well together. My 2 friends and I had actually planned out 3 decks beforehand that were made specifically to work together for this exact sort of game.
Once the game started, it was clear to everyone that we had premeditated this. We each had "Sliver" decks (slivers are creatures that share abilities with other Slivers - ie the Muscle sliver gives all slivers +1/+1 while the Crystalline Sliver says no slivers may be targetted by spells, etc.)
So anyhow, it was obvious that we had pre-planned this (which is very cheesy and underhanded) and we ended up getting absolutely smoked in the game. It was a very lopsided loss for us. We essentially cheated then lost anyway.
