For those of you new to this list, I originally posted this list back in 2006 as a way to let my Santa know when I receive my gift without him/her worrying about divulging their identity. The list has gone well in the last two years and I am curious how large it will grow this year since there are around 1000+ participants this year (529 items in 2006, 874 items in 2007). This is a pretty good place to view the gifting as it progresses through the holiday season, so enjoy!

Use this as a central area to record what our Secret Santas sent us. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile so your Secret Santa knows to look on the list for your receipt and reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present!

If your Santa sends you more than one item, just list them all in one listing unless you think it makes more sense to list them separately. Remember to include any comments you want your Secret Santa to know!

I don't know about anyone else, but I generally obsess about whether a package has arrived at it's intended destination. I drive my wife crazy with checking tracking numbers constantly! So it will be nice to see when those gifts are actually received by the giftee (or are they just sitting unclaimed on the neighbor's porch?)

To see how the previous two years of Secret Santa-ing have gone on those year's versions of this list, look at these links:

My Secret Santa has been sending me taunts for weeks now about the "coal sample" that was heading my way. Well, a coal sample arrived yesterday! I waited for about 20 seconds before giving in and opening the box to find Wealth of Nations. I greatly enjoyed this one when we opened it as a demo at World's Apart Games in Amherst, MA, but one of the other players there snapped it up so it didn't stay on the demo shelf. I'm glad to have it on my *own* game shelf now, so I can play it again. It hit the table the same night.

Also in there was Power Grid: Benelux/Central Europe, which will make a nice addition to my growing Power Grid collection. Great for those times when I want a slightly quicker game.

I also received another Geekmail promising yet another coal sample in my future! Here's the note:
Santa wrote:
Dear sir,

Our shipping department assures me that the first unit of coal was delivered to your house today. I hope you find it satisfactory.

A second piece, slighter greater, of American origin, is being shipped to you by way of train, as soon as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Doug Johnson,
Customer Services
Coal Inc.

My best guess is that it's The Great Chinese Railway Game, as that's an American railroad game that's slightly more expensive than Wealth of Nations and is (in theory) coming out Really Soon Now. But I'll have to wait and see!

Thanks, Santa!

Yes yes yes... I can hear the bells, because today was the day that Secret Santa came to my town, and I am very excited about it!!
When I returned from work last Thursday I found a note in my mailbox. It was obviously written by one of Santa's little helpers, namely my very own mailman, to inform me that he had a package for me and that I could pick it up the next day at my local post office.
So I went there but apparently the shelter was manned (excuse me, "womanned") by Santa's Alzheimer-helpers! They looked at me, they looked at my little paper with the tracing number on it and 5 minutes later they told me that they couldn't find my package anymore... Can you believe it, and that post office is only as big as 2 stamps!? They didn't give me much information neither. "Maybe you can try to come back next week, we may find it back in the meanwhile but we can't guarantee..." was all this not so holy woman could say to me. Needless to say my recent weekend was not such a happy one. I even remember there was a given moment I was thinking there would be no present for me this year, thanks to the Belgian post.
However, I went back there today... and yes, this time the miracle of Christmas occurred in front of my very own eyes: she found the present my Secret Santa sent to me!!! Yayyyyy!!
Sir Nick, thank you so so much for all your efforts sending me this package all the way from the US to Europe, for buying me this great game wich I wanted so badly (it was on my wishlist for quite a while already) and I hope your Secret Santa was as great to you as you were to me!
From Belgium, home of beer and chocolates, I wish you and your family a very merry X-mas!

*THANK YOU SANTA!!*

I must have been a good boy this year! Today I had a box waiting for me on my front step from Boards n' Bits. I thought to myself "But I ordered some gifts from Thoughthammer, and I just got the tracking number, so this can't be that..."

Yes, of course, it was Santa sending me a gift. I went ahead and opened it near immediately. Now before you start shouting that I should have waited until the end of the month, I'll have you know that I run a weekly board game night at an area university, and students go home long before Christmas, so I'm *required* to open the box early, so I can give the students a fair chance to get in a play or two before they leave for break. It wouldn't do to withhold and not share, now would it?

I must have been an extra good boy, because inside were not one, but *two* games! Antike was the first, which I have played several times, and love the luck free mechanics of the game. The second was Ca$h' n Gun$, which I know is going to be a big hit at tomorrow's game night!

Thanks Santa, you're awesome!

Power Grid: The New Power Plant Cards

and

Saint Petersburg: New Society & Banquet Expansion

and

Glory to Rome

Even though I specified that used games were fine with me, my SS gave me all brand new items. Sweet.

Speechless...

Speechless witnessing such generosity from my Secret Santa blush He really outdone himself! He noticed at first glance that i was a huge FGG (Fantasy flight games) fan and carefully took that into consideration. I received an early taunt telling me that he was attending BGG.CON this year to see if he could find some stuff from my wish list and that tells me that he also took note that i was not only a passionate gamer but a game collector as well as some stuff from my wish list is hard to find.

What can i say more than this? Such generosity really touches me deep, really deep.

I cameback from work yesterday and received a note from the mailman that a package was at the post office... I just said to myself FINALLY because there is a thing that i'm waiting for that is very ver late now and i tought that was it. Imagine my surprise when the clerk gave me a big box !?!?!?! I double check the label to be sure it was mine and then i start searching for what it might be...

I got blown away finding the answer as i opened the box witnessing not one but

and

and still

Not to forget a nice x-mas card " Dear Carlo, enjoy your BGG secret Santa gift"...

I'm very happy about theses presents as i played Game of throne a while ago and was delighted by the whole concept and mechanics. An RPG friend of mine even gave me the first book of the series telling me that "it's a must to read". Not to forget Chinatown, another game style that i like a lot and saw a game once, got interested and never had the chance to get the game... not anymore!cool

Fortunatly for me, my SS gave me the permission to open my presents and i did it partially... I removed the x-mas wrappings just to stun me even more and then placed my gifts in my living room with a piece of my x-mas wrapping and my card on top.

Untill x-mas, i'll just enjoy gazing at the beauty that is generosity, giving and sharing with an unknown person around the world. Thx you so much from the bottom of my heart SS whoever you are, you really give generosity new heights.

Woot!
Just received and opened my Secret Santa package ... there were no instructions to wait for any particular day to open it ... so I dug right in.

I am really excited to get a chance to play this game.

I've been in want of a wargame which I could recruit interest from my regular gang. They don't seem to be too interested in long, deep game rules, which most wargames seem to provide. I am betting that this will be a wargame I can get them interested in. I've been itching to pick this up for sometime, glad I need not wait any longer.

This was an excellent pick.

That would have been generous enough, but Secret Santa also sent:

Conflict of Heroes Expansion Pack: Map Board #6 – The Marsh

And to top it off, in the box were three new Counter Trays. Very considerate addition. That's what I like about you, Secret Santa ...
you're always thinking. cool

BIG BIG THANKS !!!

Well, I gotta go, because I still haven't broken the seal yet, and I want to get started on the rule book right away - before I get too tired for the night.

A package arrived today. It was a busy day, and I'd been expecting some deliveries for my younger child's upcoming birthday, so I just ripped into the box without really thinking about it.

My immediate reaction upon opening the box (and my continuing feeling):

Omigosh! Omigosh! Omigosh! I have the coolest Secret Santa EVER!

S/he sent me not one but two games -- A Touch of Evil: The Supernatural Game and Red November:

Not only was each a game that I was dying to have in theory -- each is a game that I got to play at BGG.CON and know that I love! They're perfect for my main game group, too -- my family. We play the heck out of cooperative games and are partial to monster-stomping.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Secret Santa!

Wow! I got lucky on two accounts.

First, my Secret Santa package was delivered to a neighbor. It wasn't Santa's fault, the address was correct on the box, the delivery service was just stupid. After an unknown amount of delay the box actually made it to me -unopened and complete. Right before the Thanksgiving trip.

Second the box had two games, Jamaica and Incan Gold. Yes, I know, I've played a lot of Diamant/Incan Gold, (and even reviewed it on an episode of On Board Games) I've just never owned a copy. I'll probably drag it back to Oklahoma for the holidays.

I'd heard good things about Jamaica, and really wanted to play it. (Besides, Jamaica has a nice veneer of piratey goodness, I'll probably review it in a pirate episode!)

arrrh arrrh arrrh

I received my gift last night. As Santa gave me permission to open my gift early I did. Now, I was expecting something a bit more mainstream, but imagine my surprise when I opened my box to find Hold the Line!!!

Now, this game went on my wishlist about six months ago when looking into variants for Napoleonics/Revolutionary War for Battle Cry. It looked like it played very similarly which piqued my interest. I completely forgot about the game after that until it arrived at my doorstep last night. This is the most awesome gift ever. I can always get Pandemic or Dominion, but this is more obscure. It is a game I would have never purchased for myself unless I saw it at an FLGS and that makes it more special as a gift.

Thank you sooo much Santa. Santa was very kind, by the way. He also threw in Hold the Line: French and Indian War Expansion Set as well! I cannot wait to get this on the table!

Received a well-wrapped padded parcel from a game retailer based in Cornwall. Obviously I'm not sure what it is - and I don't want to know before Christmas - but it feels like its full of gaming goodness!

So thank you Secret Santa - whoever and wherever you are! I'll report back when I've opened the package ...

Well Christmas came, I opened the package ... and I couldn't have been more delighted - Power Grid and also the Power Grid expansion pack!!

I'm a latecomer to the game and it was, perhaps, the only "must-have" not in the collection. Needless to say, it hit the table on Christmas Day - alongside staple family faves such as TTR. Who said Power Grid was just for gamers?

So thank you Secret Santa for your generosity and I hope you were equally happy with your Christmas gifts.

First the taunting began:
1. "I have shipped to this address before"
-->jokes about TangaMonkey aside, I decided it had to be one of my many trade partners (my few marketplace and 'off the geek' buys didn't have SS2008 microbadges. I also decided "no stealth santas" my Secret Santa would be one to rock the badge proudly

19 potential Santas

2. a quick discussion about CCGs revealed Santa as a Doomtowner of the Weird West

two potential santas if all listed Doomtown in their collection.

3. "We share related gaming microbadges"
NOT "gaming-related microbadges" and related I took to mean 'similar but NOT the same"

So what gaming microbadges do I have?
Firestorm-out as I'm the only one w/ one
Magic Realm-"fantasy" or ???
Cosmic Encounter-"sci fi" or "space"
Railroad Tycoon-"trains" a broader and better category for 'related'

I noticed one of the Doomtowners had an Age of Steam microbadge-AoS and RRT are train games with similar mechanics etc. etc. I thought I had Santa pegged.

4. We have a Geekbuddy in common.
Turns out that while there should be more that I'll add, right then and there, there was only:

Yeah it's here! Really it's right here.

and the other suspect and I didn't have a Geekbuddy in common (although again there should be).

that sealed the deal, but the 5th clue came w/ the package from Boards and Bits:

5. "This should go well with your Hill Giant".

now, who traded me a Hill Giant?

none other than
Jason Maxwell

and also in the box were:

BattleLore: For Troll and Country

BattleLore: Call to Arms

BattleLore: Epic BattleLore

Just last week, JeffJ (jjacjackson) and I were playing a Lore scenario and agreeing that the intro scenarios were just that, designed to introduce the units/terrain/rules and that Battlelore would really shine with the deployment systems of Call to Arms and the grand scale of Epic battlelore. Quickly to the wishlist and lo and behold
thanks Jason, my not-so-secret-Santa. The others lie-YOU are the greatest Santa on BGG.

EDITS: this is my 666th Geeklist Item devil

Also, fellow Geeks, besides putting a link in your profile, you might consier adding a comment to your Collection-Owned List along the lines of "Thank You 2008 Secret Santa". I did that last year, so anyone who views my collection will see the generosity and good will of my Secret Santas

Received a package from funagain after my secret santa clearly researched my taste in games and asked if I wanted something off my wish list (which I did). Don't know yet what it is but I am excited to find out.

I'll post again when I open it.

thank you

I'm not sure when the package arrived, but on my way to take my son to school today, a package was waiting for me. Since we were running a little late, I resisted the temptation to open the package, but I was pretty sure it was a BGG Secret Santa thing.

By the time I got to work, I couldn't resist anymore and opened it up. Little Felix: The Cat in the Sack was waiting for me. Now this is a game I've been wanting for a while, so I was very happy. And yet, the box looked bigger than that. Digging through the packing peanuts, I found something else! In the Year of the Dragon! One of my two "must have" games (sorry if having only two must haves was a little leading)!!!

Woohoo! Thank You Secret Santa in Canada!!! I appreciate your having to deal with any international shipping issues as well. Well done!

I was spoiled rotten by my wonderful Secret Santa. I had a huge package waiting for me when I got home from work one day, and my son Ben was eager to help me open it. Inside were lots of thoughtful gifts and items, and three awesome games -- Ido (a long-time wishlist item of mine), Race for the Galaxy (a recent favorite), and VOC! (a game I've been trying to get for a looong time).

I was so impressed, I sent the following thank you note, which helps explain the awesomeness of getting VOC!

Quote:
Wow... "Thanks" simply cannot cover it. Even Ultra-Mega-Super-Thanks falls short.

I was deeply touched and impressed by both your incredible generosity and your deft gift-wrapping skills. And your playful taunting with the Santa geekmails drove me mad trying to figure out "Is this someone I know? Did someone from my old St. Louis crew get me by some strange quirk?"

I feel totally overwhelmed! The snacks and jam were spot on, too. Wow. It's like you read my mind or something.

But I was most amazed by Voc! Wow. It was easily the strongest "Must Have #1 With-A-Bullet" item on my Wishlist -- and I had given up all hope of ever seeing it.

I had won an auction on eBay for a copy several months ago, but the seller flaked. Then I purchased a copy through the BGG Marketplace, and the seller backed out with apologies. Then I ordered a copy through Thoughthammer, and was told "sorry, but that's actually out of stock!" ... So having that amongst the gifts was an unexpected and completely remarkable surprise!

Thank you very much for your generosity, giving spirit and thoughtfulness. It is greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Thanksgiving, Merriness & Awesomeness Be Yours,

Jay
